BSF intercepts 6 drones along Pak border in Punjab; firearms and heroin also seized

Time of India5 days ago
Amritsar: In a significant blow to Pakistan-sponsored narco-terror networks, the Border Security Force (BSF) troops shot down six drones and seized a cache of arms and heroin in a series of operations along the Punjab border in the last 24 hours.
The operations led to the seizure of six DJI Mavic 3 Classic drones, three pistols, six magazines, pistol parts, and 1.1kg heroin, said a statement issued by BSF here on Thursday.
The most notable interception took place near Modhe village in Amritsar, where BSF personnel, using advanced technical countermeasures, neutralised five drones at night. A thorough search of the area led to the seizure of four packets containing three pistols, three magazines, and heroin weighing 1.1kg.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, BSF troops, in coordination with Punjab Police, seized pistol parts (upper slide) and a magazine from an irrigated paddy field near Dal village in Tarn Taran district.
In yet another incident early Wednesday morning, a drone was intercepted near Attari village on the Amritsar border. Following the neutralisation, BSF troops found a pistol and two magazines from a piece of farmland nearby. This incident marked the sixth drone interception in the ongoing operation. Earlier, on Wednesday, BSF and Punjab Police had seized 13 pistols along the Pakistan border in Punjab.

'Mighty Daggers': All About 4 Para, India's Most Fearless Strike Force That Executed Op Mahadev

Last Updated: 4 Para is part of the Parachute Regiment (Para SF) and has been deployed in Kashmir on multiple high‑stakes missions, such as the 2016 surgical strikes across the LoC. Operation Mahadev, that tracked down and eliminated three Pahalgam attackers was carried out by Indian Army's 4 Para (Special Forces) officers, defence sources have said. 'This operation was done by 4 Para (SF) officers. One officer and his buddy identified them, after which they were shot immediately," sources said. What Is 4 Para (SP)? The 4 Para SP is one of the Indian Army's elite Special Forces regiments. It specialises in counter-terrorism, surgical strikes, high-risk mountain and jungle operations. It is part of the Parachute Regiment (Para SF), nicknamed the 'Red Devils' and has been deployed in Kashmir on multiple high‑stakes missions, such as the 2016 surgical strikes across the LoC. The nickname 'Red Devils' comes from their distinctive maroon berets (symbolising airborne forces) and their fierce reputation in combat. It is considered among the most lethal units in South Asia. Its operatives are handpicked, undergo one of the world's toughest probation regimens, and are trained for rapid deployment, deep infiltration, and surgical precision. 'Red Devils' is also historically associated with elite airborne units worldwide, including Britain's paratroopers — and the Indian 4 Para SF adopted it as a badge of honour due to similar elite status and operational ethos. The 4 Para (SF) is often called 'Mighty Daggers', an unofficial nickname or call sign associated with 4 Para (Special Forces). 'Mighty Daggers' is often used within the regiment or in internal callsigns, social media tributes, or veterans' references to highlight their combat aggressiveness and sharp-strike capability. The term symbolises their razor-sharp operational precision – 'striking fast and deep like a dagger." What Operations Have 4 Para (SP) Carried Out? 4 Para is considered one of the most battle-hardened special forces units in India. From the 2016 surgical strikes to Operation Mahadev, 'Mighty Daggers" have carried out some of the most crucial anti-terror operations. Here's a look at some of these: Surgical Strikes (2016) Following the Uri terror attack, 4 Para led the cross-border surgical strike targeting terrorist launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Inserted at night, the commandos neutralised multiple targets and returned without casualties. Their role demonstrated India's new proactive doctrine against terrorism. Kupwara Snow Encounter (April 2020) In a rare and dangerous high-altitude mission, 4 Para commandos were heli-dropped into a snow-covered forest in Kupwara to intercept infiltrators. Despite one commando falling into a crevasse during landing, the team engaged five heavily armed terrorists in close-quarters combat, eliminating all of them. The operation showcased 4 Para's resilience in extreme conditions. Operation Mahadev (July 2025) Most recently, 4 Para played a central role in Operation Mahadev, targeting terrorists hiding in the Harwan forest near Dachigam National Park. The unit swiftly cordoned off the area and engaged in a fierce gunbattle, killing three terrorists, including the mastermind of the Pahalgam massacre. The precision strike in dense terrain underlined 4 Para's counter-terror excellence. How 4 Para Came Into Being The 4th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment traces its roots to World War II, originally raised as part of the British Indian Army in 1941. Initially trained as a conventional airborne infantry unit, the battalion participated in key operations during the Burma campaign. In the 1965 and 1971 wars against Pakistan, 4 Para served as a para-infantry unit. Post-war experiences revealed a need for a specialized unconventional warfare force. In the 1980s, select battalions like 1, 9, and 10 Para began developing commando capabilities, focusing on counter-insurgency, hostage rescue, and deep-penetration raids. In 2001, after Parliament attack and amid rising terror threats, 4 Para was formally converted into a full-fledged Special Forces (SF) unit. This marked its transition from parachute infantry to a Tier 1 special operations force. 4 Para underwent advanced training in Himachal Pradesh, Belgaum, and Nahan, including HALO jumps, jungle warfare, mountain ops, and urban CQB (close quarters battle). The battalion has since operated in Jammu & Kashmir, the Northeast, and across the Line of Control, often under deep cover. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Whom do you want to save?, HM Shah hits out at P Chidambaram's ‘homegrown terrorists' remark

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah lashed out at the Congress as well as party veteran P Chidambaram on Tuesday, taking umbrage over the latter's remarks that the Pahalgam attackers could have been 'homegrown terrorists' and not from across the border. He said there was ample proof of their country of origin as the Voter IDs of the Pahalgam terrorists were Pakistani. Speaking on the 'Operation Sindoor' debate in Lok Sabha, Amit Shah assailed the grand old party and Chidambaram over raising doubts, even if small, on whether the terrorists who killed 26 people in Baisaran Valley in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) were Pakistanis. He expressed surprise as to how the former Home Minister of the country (P Chidambaram) was raising questions over origin and nationality of terrorists. 'Whom do you want to save? What will you gain by shielding Pakistan?,' asked the furious Home Minister. Amit Shah told the House that there was ample proof with the government and investigating agencies that the attackers came from Pakistan. "They were Pakistanis. Their voter ID number is available; the rifles they used are also with us. Pakistan-made chocolates that the terrorists carried have also been recovered," Amit Shah said. 'Former Home Minister is giving clean chit to Pakistanis,' he added. Chidambaram, in a recent interview with a news publication, claimed that the government was unwilling to disclose the work the NIA has done in the aftermath of the terror attack in J&K. "Have they identified the terrorists? Where they came from? I mean, for all we know, they could be homegrown terrorists. Why do you assume that they came from Pakistan? There's no evidence of that," he told the daily. In another instance, when the Home Minister was heckled by the Opposition members in the House, led by SP MP Akhilesh Yadav, over the Centre's alleged failure in bringing the perpetrators to book even after 100 days of the heinous Pahalgam attack, he said that the security forces achieved unprecedented success in gunning down the terrorists involved in the April 22 terror attack. As the Opposition kept interjecting, he taunted them asking, 'Doesn't killing of terrorists bring smile on your faces?' "I thought the killing of Pahalgam terrorists would bring a smile on the faces of all Parliamentarians, but this is strange. You are not happy. All should stand united in matters of national security and not express certain emotions, based on their religious identity," he further said.

Three terrorists killed in Op Mahadev were involved in Pahalgam terror attack: HM Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that three terrorists killed by the Indian Armed Forces during 'Operation Mahadev' on July 28 were all involved in the Pahalgam terror attack. Addressing the Lok Sabha during the Operation Sindoor debate, HM Shah said, "Yesterday, the Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police neutralised three terrorists -- Suleiman, Afghan and Jibran. Suleiman was the top commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, who was involved in the Pahalgam and Gagangir terror attacks. Several pieces of evidence are there to support this." Afghan and Jibran were also the top Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders, the Home Minister informed the House. "I would like to inform everyone that those who killed our citizens in the Baisaran Valley were the same terrorists and all three were killed," Shah announced. "I would like to express my gratitude to the Indian Army's Para 4, CRPF personnel and J&K Police officials involved in the operation," he added. The Home Minister said that the people who used to supply food to the terrorists, and had been detained earlier, confirmed their identity, hence confirming their involvement in the Pahalgam massacre. Notably, the key success came as the Lok Sabha began a debate on the Pahalgam attack and the resultant Operation Sindoor to take out terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Officials said that the three terrorists, killed in an encounter with the joint forces, comprising the Army, the CRPF, and the J&K Police, in the upper reaches of the Dachigam National Park near the Mahadev Peak in the Harwan area of Srinagar, were all Pakistani nationals belonging to the LeT. The Indian Army, J&K Police, and other security forces have been launching aggressive anti-terrorist operations across the area, targeting terrorists, over-ground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers of terrorism to totally dismantle the ecosystem of terror in the union territory.
