Five students from Telangana, AP make it to JEE top 20 list
Hyderabad: Five students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh secured a spot on the top 20 rank holders list in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025, the results of which were released on Monday.
The IIT-Hyderabad zone, comprising the two Telugu states apart from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, saw 23 candidates feature in the top 100.
A total of 12,946 students from this zone qualified in the examination.
Hyderabad boy Arnav Singh secured an All-India Rank (AIR) 9, while Vadlamudi Lokesh from AP clinched AIR 10. The other three students in the top 20 were: Dharmana Gnana Rutvik Sai (AIR 18), Vangala Ajay Reddy (AIR 19), and Avanaganti Anirudh Reddy (AIR 20).
All toppers said they want to pursue a B Tech in computer sciences from the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B).
"I have been interested in engineering since I was 12. I always wanted to study computer science, and I am very happy that I can now fulfil my dream," an elated Lokesh told TOI. The teenager, son of an NGO employee from Vijayawada, said he started preparing for the exam in class 7 and had been staying away from his family — at a residential coaching centre in Hyderabad — for the last six years for this.
The two states also threw up several category toppers. While Ajay emerged as all-India topper in the General-Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category, Rutvik stood at the top of the charts in the OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer) category. Korikana Rasagnya, who secured AIR 78 was the female topper from the state.
"I regret making some silly mistakes in the exam. Else, I would have definitely secured a spot in the top 5.
However, I am happy that I am the topper in the General-EWS category," said Ajay, a resident of Kurnool, who has been living in Hyderabad since class 9.
Many students who secured ranks from the other zones are also students of the two corporate colleges – Narayana Group and Sri Chaitanya Group — that have their main campuses in the Telugu states.
Meanwhile, students from social and tribal welfare and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Telangana also scored well, especially in the SC and ST categories. While G Soniya from EMRS secured AIR 63 in the ST category, N Shiva from the tribal welfare society clinched the AIR 95 position in the same category.

Happy that my hard work paid off, says AP topper in JEE (Advanced) Vadlamudi Lokesh
VIJAYAWADA 'I was fast asleep when my brother Karthikeya woke me up and broke the news of my success in the JEE exam. The house erupted in celebrations. I am still excited,' said an excited Vadlamudi Lokesh, who secured an all-India 10th rank in the JEE (Advanced) 2025 and is also the State topper. IIT-Kanpur announced the results in the early hours of Monday for the entrance exam conducted on May 18. Lokesh had appeared for the exam from the IIT Hyderabad zone and secured 317 marks, placing him in the top 10 of the Common Rank List (CRL). His father, Venkaiah Naidu, who works with a Dutch-based NGO, and mother, Sailaja, a homemaker, are elated over their son's achievement. 'Ï worked really hard and was confident that the amount of hard work I invested in my preparation for the exam, would pay off,' he says, adding that he was expecting a rank below 60. 'To know that I had done way better and had scored 10th rank came as a pleasant surprise,' he told The Hindu on Wednesday. Lokesh is keen on joining IIT-Bombay and pursue a course in Computer Science Engineering (CSE). 'My aim is to start my own company in the future and pay back to society,' says the young achiever. After completing his schooling in different places, including his primary education in Ethiopia, he joined the Narayana campus at Kanuru in Vijayawada for intermediate education. Students of IIT Hyderabad zone performed exceptionally well this year, securing five positions in the top 20. Arnav Singh from Hyderabad bagged the 9th rank with 319 marks, while Lokesh secured 10th position. Dharmana Gnana Rutvik Sai, also from Andhra Pradesh, secured 18th rank and topped in the OBC-NCL category at the national level. Vangala Ajay Reddy from Nellore stood 19th and secured first rank in the GEN-EWS category, followed by Avanaganti Anirudh Reddy, who secured 20th position.

Jeshua hopes to take University route to India basketball team

The 23-year-olds grit and determination is now paying off as he sets out to make a mark at the world stage. With two papers left to be cleared, and lack of playing time, Jeshua was looking for a fresh start. He joined University of Kota during this academic year, where he is pursuing Masters in Economics all over again. Jeshua captained Kota to a silver medal at the All-India University 3x3 Basketball Championship 2024 and was named Most Promising Player. He then took part in the Indian National Basketball League (U-25) and represented Delhi Dribblers early this year. Each University was asked to recommend players for the three-day national trials in Kochi. Kota sent four including Jeshua. There were over 30 players trying to make it to the final list of 12, and Jeshua was delighted to find his name in the final list. 'For the trials, I played pretty well, so I was confident. Once they announced the list of 12, I understood the weightage of it. I worked very hard, it's finally paying off,' said Jeshua. Gold medallist at the Khelo India University Games 2023, Jeshua will join the India University side for a camp next month before travelling to Germany. 'This is a small step towards my main goal which is to play for the senior national team. Coming from Goa where there is no basketball background, I had to put in an extra effort,' Jeshua said. As a child, Jeshua took to football where coaches advised him to pick up a second sport as an option. Not surprisingly, it had to be basketball since his mother, Maria Helena, has been a coach at Lourdes for over two decades. Fifth of six kids, Jeshua started playing basketball at the age of 10 and made such good progress that he was included in the state's U-14 national side the following year. 'I am extremely happy because hard work has paid off,' said his mother, Maria Helena. 'There were times when injury held us back, but Jeshua came back stronger. He is the first Goan boy to achieve this feat and hopefully motivates youngsters. Goa surely has the talent.' While the dream of playing for India is very much alive, Jeshua wants to help Goan players. 'The world's best will be there for these Games. It will be a good place to showcase my talent,' said the six-foot tall Jeshua.
