AMEINAH ALZEYOUDI (ABU DHABI)The UAE will once again demonstrate its world-class hosting capabilities when it holds the most diverse multisport event in the Middle East, the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026. The landmark event will take place in the UAE capital from February 6 to 15, 2026, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs, and the Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee of the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026. The Games go beyond competitions, said Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC).
'It's a powerful showcase of the UAE's world-class hosting capabilities, uniting people of all ages and backgrounds in a vibrant atmosphere of wellness, inclusivity, and cultural exchange. It's a reminder of how sport can build bridges, inspire healthy lifestyles, and leave a legacy of vitality for future generations,' he told Aletihad . 'In the heart of the UAE - where ambition meets determination - the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 will spark a global celebration of sport and spirit.'More than 25,000 participants representing 100 nationalities are expected to join competitions across the Games' 33 sports - from archery, basketball, cricket and football to kayaking, karate, falconry, and horse jumping. 'There truly is something for everyone. Whether you're an experienced athlete or just beginning your wellness journey, the Games embrace all levels of ability and all walks of life - especially championing people of determination,' Al Awani said. Beyond tournaments, the Games seek to inspire a lifelong love for healthy living, longevity, community and movement, while celebrating the unique culture of the UAE as the ultimate destination for world-class sporting events.
'Every step taken, every cheer heard, and every personal best achieved is a celebration of resilience, unity, and the human spirit,' Al Awani said.

21 July 2025 14:13 ABU DHABI (WAM) The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in collaboration with HYROX and ADNEC Abu Dhabi, hosted HYROX, the world's largest indoor fitness race and the leading fitness event in the Middle event, held on Sunday, brought together 3,506 athletes from across the globe, including 213 professional represented 41 percent of the participants, with the 30-35 age group being the most from 124 nationalities took part, including 340 Emiratis. The United Kingdom led the participant demographics with 24 percent, followed by the UAE with 9 percent, and both Ireland and the Philippines with 5.25 percent race consisted of eight 1km running rounds, interspersed with eight functional fitness workouts, forming a complete challenge that tested both strength and was open across several categories: Individual (Men and Women), Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Doubles Pro, Individual Pro, Relay Teams (4 persons), and a dedicated category for People of event kicked off with the men's category at 7:00 am, followed by the remaining categories throughout the day, concluding with the men's relay at 9:00 ceremonies began at 12:45 pm after the first race and continued until 10:45 pm after the final event. The race witnessed an impressive public turnout of over 12,000 spectators throughout the Director of the Events Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Talal Al Hashemi, stated, "Hosting HYROX in Abu Dhabi underscores our ongoing commitment to promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle by attracting world-class events that blend challenge and excitement while being inclusive of all community segments. Final week plan The meeting also discussed the plan for the fourth and final week, which includes a distinguished group of concluding events, such as workshops to develop creative skills, sports and recreational activities, interactive events for children and families, and diving introductory workshops. A running race will also be held on the Dibba Al Hisn waterway, concluding a summer filled with giving and excellence.
