Where is history headed?

In this age of technological hustle and bustle and fast-paced modern life, some fear that history is disappearing! This is indeed what we see and hear from some people when we talk to them or listen to some of their conversations, that they are distancing themselves from history and identity because they basically know nothing about it, and that is a fact! The majority are now interested in modern science and the arts without looking back at the past and without integrating how we were and where we are now.
History is not limited to tales and stories, but rather it is a mark that allows you to understand what your ancestors did in order to reach your present and shape your future. A person must be aware of their history and the history of others in order to creatively write their future. Every building has a foundation that allows it to develop, and this is what Sheikha Hala Badr Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah is doing.
Personally, it all started on June 12, 2022, when I read on a social media site about Sheikha Hala's sponsorship and attendance at the Britain in Watercolors exhibition. From that day on, I became a follower of the site, and I saw a picture of a Kuwaiti woman who is persevering to preserve and revive Kuwaiti history through Kuwait's various arts, most importantly theater, and honoring its pioneers.
Not only that, but through the activities and events organized by Sheikha Hala Bader Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, I found her to be a woman who is tireless in documenting Kuwaiti relations with other countries through exhibitions that document the history of relations between Kuwait (the Gulf bride) and countries of the world. Until my journey with Sheikha Hala's activities and events and her efforts to revive the entire history of the Gulf came to an end when I found out that she is interested in stamps!
Not only that, but what caught my attention in the news was her statement in 2024 when she visited the Arab Postage Stamp Museum in Katara, Qatar, and said: 'Postage stamps are an encyclopedic record of information that documents the history, arts, heritage and achievements of each country.' These words may be few, but they carry a lot of meaning. Yes, every stamp has a story, and every story has a history for which it was printed.
A stamp is not just a means of postal communication; it is a work of art that carries within its designs and issues many of the historical events for which it was issued. You are right in your statement, daughter of Sheikh Badr Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, may Allah have mercy on him.
In conclusion: Words cannot describe the work that Sheikha Hala Badr Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah is doing to document Kuwait's history and its connection to the world, as well as the depth of Kuwait's relations with the Arab world and the world at large. She is a Kuwaiti woman who is tireless in her efforts to preserve her country's history, so that it may stand as a mirror to its present and reflect the sun of the future.

‘Donations prove Kuwaitis' charitable, helpful nature'

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: Minister of Social, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah inspected the Girls Care Home, where she met with the residents and staff and reviewed the progress of work and the readiness of facilities and services. After the visit, Al-Huwailah said she listened directly to the comments and demands, stressing her commitment to provide all needs and fulfill requirements to ensure comprehensive care that takes into account the educational, social, and psychological aspects of the residents. She explained that this visit is part of follow-up efforts, indicating that her ministry fully supports the staff and is keen on raising their efficiency, in addition to developing partnerships with relevant authorities to provide a safe and supportive environment that helps girls integrate into society. On the other hand, Al-Huwailah affirmed that World Humanitarian Day is an annual occasion to honor and appreciate the efforts of humanitarian workers around the world. In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Tuesday, Al-Huwailah said, 'Kuwait considers this occasion a reminder of its deep-rooted humanitarian responsibility and its role in promoting the values of international solidarity. It remains present in the arena of humanitarian work through its official institutions, charitable societies, and charities, most notably the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, which has embodied Kuwaiti giving in areas of crisis and disaster.' She explained that this day is an opportunity to commend Kuwaiti humanitarian workers who sacrificed their time and effort in the most difficult circumstances to help the afflicted, stressing that Kuwait is proud of their role and considers them an extension of its rich humanitarian legacy. She said the donations that the people of Kuwait continue to provide in urgent response to disasters and humanitarian crises are evidence of Kuwaiti society's commitment to humanitarian values. She confirmed that humanitarian work continues to face challenges, including difficulty accessing affected areas and security risks that threaten field workers. She called for enhanced international protection for them and to facilitate the unhindered delivery of aid. She added that 'Kuwait continues to strengthen its partnership with the United Nations and international organizations to ensure that support reaches those who deserve it promptly. Humanitarian work is not merely an emergency or temporary response, but rather a constant pillar of Kuwait's policy and a message it conveys to the entire world in honor of the lives of those who sacrificed for humanity and in appreciation of all those who work sincerely to save the lives of others.' It is worth mentioning that the United Nations General Assembly approved World Humanitarian Day in 2008, which falls on Aug 19 of each year, as an annual occasion to honor humanitarian workers, appreciate their sacrifices, and highlight the challenges they face in crisis and conflict areas.

Kuwait celebrates World Humanitarian Day with record of global relief efforts

Minister: World Humanitarian Day is a tribute to workers KUWAIT: As the world observed World Humanitarian Day on Tuesday, Kuwait highlighted its longstanding legacy of humanitarian action, which has earned it international recognition as a leading donor and supporter of communities facing wars, disasters and crises worldwide. For decades, Kuwait's leadership, institutions and civil society have extended assistance through relief campaigns and international conferences aimed at rebuilding affected nations. In acknowledgment of these efforts, the United Nations designated Kuwait as a 'Humanitarian Center' in 2014 and honored the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as 'Humanitarian Leader.' His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to this legacy, pledging continued support for global humanitarian causes during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in May. Guterres described Kuwait's role as 'pioneering and exemplary.' Kuwait remains one of the largest regional contributors to UN humanitarian agencies, particularly UNHCR, while institutions such as the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) continue to deliver urgent relief worldwide. Over the past year, Kuwaiti aid has reached Gaza, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Pakistan and Somalia, in addition to sustained annual support for UNRWA and cooperation agreements with UNICEF, UNHCR, UNDP and OCHA. Most recently, Kuwait launched a second airlift of humanitarian supplies to Gaza, transporting dozens of tons of food and emergency relief for Palestinians under siege. Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah said the occasion is an opportunity to honor humanitarian workers worldwide, including Kuwaiti volunteers who embody the country's humanitarian spirit in times of crisis. She stressed that Kuwait's people consistently step forward with donations and relief efforts, underscoring the society's deep-rooted commitment to solidarity and compassion. Al-Huwailah also highlighted the growing challenges facing humanitarian work, including security risks for aid workers and barriers to accessing conflict zones. She called for stronger international protection mechanisms and the facilitation of aid delivery to ensure relief reaches those most in need. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs echoed these sentiments, stressing Kuwait's appreciation for the sacrifices of humanitarian workers, particularly those on the front lines in disaster and conflict zones. It underscored the need for stronger global coordination to safeguard humanitarian efforts and ensure their sustainability, especially in light of the dire situation facing the Palestinian people. World Humanitarian Day, established by the UN General Assembly in 2008, is marked annually on August 19 to honor humanitarian workers, commemorate their sacrifices, and shed light on the growing challenges they face across the globe. — KUNA
