LAPD releases video from shooting of Weezer bassist's author wife

New York Post26-04-2025

Authorities have released video footage from the police-involved shooting involving author Jillian Lauren — the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner — earlier this month.
The April 8 footage from security cameras showed an armed Lauren, 51, emerging barefooted from the couple's Eagle Rock home, holding a 9mm gun in her right hand.
She surveyed the backyard for a minute in the video before making her way around to the front of the house, and then toward the driveway.

The footage then shifts to LAPD body-camera video of officers standing behind a wooden fence, repeatedly telling Lauren to put her handgun down.
'Ma'am, we are trying to help you,' shouts one of the officers. 'You're going to get shot. It's the police!'
4 Lauren emerged from the home armed with the 9mm handgun.

One of the officers remarks in the clip, 'She just pointed it.'
Confusion follows, with cops yelling commands over one another. Then, shots erupt, and the video stops.
Lauren fired her gun at police, according to the LAPD, prompting them to fire back, striking her in the shoulder.
4 Cops warned Lauren repeatedly to put her gun down.
ABC7
The 'Say It Ain't So' band member's wife was arrested after interfering in the LAPD's search for three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects who fled a freeway crash and ran into a residential neighborhood, according to authorities.
4 Lauren was arrested on an attempted murder charge.
ABC7
She was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Sources said Lauren could not see the officers, and mistook them for an intruder.
The best-selling author has been charged with attempted murder.
Lauren has penned two best-selling memoirs: 2010's 'Some Girls: My Life in a Harem' and 2015's 'Everything You Ever Wanted.'
The couple has been married since 2005, and have two adopted sons.
Lauren has yet to publicly comment on the incident

Jodie Sweetin Kept a Promise She Made When Roe v. Wade Was Overturned Three Years Ago

When the Supreme Court dismantled Roe v. Wade in June 2022, Jodie Sweetin made a promise: 'This will not deter us,' she said after a video of her being violently shoved to the ground by LAPD officers at an abortion rights protest went viral. 'We will continue fighting for our rights.' Now, three years later, she's still showing up — this time at protests against ICE raids that have torn through Los Angeles communities in recent weeks. More from SheKnows Sheryl Crow Challenged Elon Musk's Anti-NPR Agenda with This Power Move On June 11, Sweetin was seen walking among demonstrators in downtown LA, dressed in all black with a baseball cap, ski goggles, and a COVID-style face mask. A 13-second TikTok clip shows her carrying a megaphone as a fan yells out, prompting Sweetin to smile, offer a quick 'Hey man, what's up?' and return to the crowd. When someone later thanked her on Instagram for using her 'platform to speak against these unlawful ICE kidnappings,' Sweetin confirmed it was her behind the mask: 'Thank youuuuuu!! Much love,' she wrote. 'On the front lines in LA.' Sweetin's appearance came days after ICE agents stormed multiple locations in the LA area — including factories in the downtown garment district — detaining workers, many of whom may not have had time to contact family or legal counsel. Over the weekend, protests erupted across the city. The federal response was swift and violent. In Paramount, protesters attempting to block deportation buses were met with flash-bang grenades, tear gas, and so-called 'less-lethal' munitions, per LA Public Press. At least 100 people were arrested over three days. One protester was struck by a federal vehicle. Another, labor leader David Huerta, was detained and reportedly injured while observing the scene. These weren't isolated incidents — they were part of an escalating immigration crackdown ordered by the Trump administration. According to ICE's own leadership, raids will now take place 'every day in L.A.' In the days following the raids, other celebrities joined Sweetin in condemning the crackdown. Chrissy Teigen, who has long been outspoken on immigration, reposted video of the arrests on her Instagram Stories with the caption: 'We fight for the rights of immigrants not because they are 'hard working' (which places their value in the labor they provide) but because they are human beings who deserve to be treated with diginity.' Mark Ruffalo took to his IG stories, writing, 'You want to get rid of the people who are picking your food, without a care in the world for who is poisoning your bodies with chemicals that aren't meant to ever be in nature. You want to drive out those who make your life easier but do not question those who dull your minds with lies and disinformation meant to confuse you and destroy brotherly and sisterly love for us here? You are pointing your guns in the wrong direction.' Singer Becky G, who grew up in Inglewood, posted earlier this week, saying 'The people being attacked today are not 'illegal aliens,' they are human beings with RIGHTS,. We must understand that an attack on them is an attack on OUR DEMOCRACY and an attack on what this country was made to stand for,' per Los Angeles Times. Their messages echoed what many organizers on the ground had already been saying: These raids are not just about immigration enforcement — they're about fear, power, and erasure. And they're being met with resistance from everyday Angelenos who are choosing to show up, whether they've lived here for decades or just joined the fight. For Sweetin, that resistance has never been a performance. It's a long-haul commitment. As she said in 2022, 'We will continue fighting for our rights.' LA anti-ICE rioters will be met with force as ‘idiot' Gov Newsom fuels fire: police union boss

The director of the Los Angeles Police Department's union slammed city and state leadership while issuing a stark warning to would-be anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement rioters. Jamie McBride is an LAPD detective with 35 years of experience on the force. He now leads the Los Angeles Police Protective League, representing the city's officers. "If you come down here and you are not having a peaceful protest, if you resort to any type of violence, you will go to jail, we will find you. There's plenty of cameras out there," McBride told Fox News Digital. McBride said that LAPD officers are holding up well during the riots, which were sparked by recent arrests of criminal illegal immigrants in the city, but that police intend to crack down hard on bad actors who cause trouble in the city. Los Angeles Da Delivers Scathing Warning To Violent Protesters Causing Havoc: 'We're Coming For You' "If somebody does come down here and thinks it's a good idea to assault a police officer or do some kind of criminal activity, once we arrest you and we use the reasonable force necessary to take you into custody, I don't want to see anybody crying afterwards," he said. Read On The Fox News App "If you're an adult, come down and do stupid stuff, then you're going to have the consequence of going to jail. So just understand that. You come down, and you want to play, we will take you to jail and if we gotta use force, we'll use the appropriate force to take you into custody." He also said that Los Angeles' new district attorney, Nathan Hochman, is ready to prosecute rioters, unlike his predecessor, George Gascon, who McBride viewed as much softer on crime. "We have a great DA now who's tough on crime," he said. "He's already made that stance. So if you get arrested for any type of criminal activity during this rioting that's going on here in Los Angeles, I have full confidence our district attorney – that he will prosecute to fullest." Ice Ramps Up Arrests Of Convicted Criminals As Riots Rage In Blue City: 'You Will Not Stop Us' McBride also slammed California's leadership, especially Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has fought President Donald Trump's deployment of the National Guard and U.S. Marines to the city to quell and deter violence. Federal help, McBride said, would be greatly appreciated by the LAPD. "Absolute idiot," he said of Newsom. "I mean, look at the way California is right now. We are, you know, high in taxes. And then of course, we're high in crime." "Because you know this state is just soft on crime, Gavin Newsom is driving that narrative as well," said McBride. "Of course, now that he's getting ready for a 2028 presidential run, he's trying to reinvent himself. But really, Gavin Newsom is part of the problem here. He's pouring fuel on the fire." Newsom is expected by some to be a Democratic Party candidate during the next presidential election cycle. He was also critical of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. "Well, I think Mayor Bass is overwhelmed right now. I think she's being a little too political. She needs to come out and tell everybody this needs to stop immediately," he said. "And if she has to ask for help from President Trump, then do so, because I'm afraid this weekend coming up, we might see some more of this going on." "I think she should step up and say that we are having a riot situation here, and if we need mutual aid, then please send mutual aid so we can combat this problem." Diana Crofts-Pelayo, a spokeswoman for Newsom, told Fox News Digital that violent crime and property crime in California have declined in recent years, and that other states have higher homicide rates than California. She also said that California's taxes are "near the national average for most."
