As seen in body cam footage released by the LAPD, officers repeatedly instructed her to lower her weapon before she fired at least one shot. Weezer bassist's wife is formally charged after being shot by cops in bizarre standoff
Weezer bassist Scott Shriner's wife Jillian Lauren has been formally charged after she was shot by the police and booked on suspicion of attempted murder in April. According to TMZ, the 51-year-old appeared in a Downtown Los Angeles court on Tuesday where she was hit with felony gun charges despite the initial serious allegation. Specifically, LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman charged Lauren with felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm and felony discharge of a firearm with gross negligence. During Tuesday's court appearance, Lauren pleaded not guilty to both felony gun charges. If she is convicted, Lauren could face up to 19 years in prison, the outlet reports. On April 9, Lauren was shot in the arm in her Los Angeles backyard and later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after she supposedly pointed a weapon and fired at cops, whom she claimed to have confused with armed criminals on her property. The authorities were on the scene because a hit-and-run suspect had been reported in the area - allegedly stripping down to his boxer shorts and jumping in a resident's swimming pool in a bizarre attempt to dodge his arrest. While searching for the suspect, law enforcement encountered the rocker's armed wife and the situation rapidly escalated into a shootout. Lauren and her attorneys appeared before Judge Theresa R. McGonigle at the Clara Shortridge Foltz criminal courthouse in downtown Los Angeles on April 30. At the time when she arrived for the court date, the Los Angeles County district attorney had not filed any charges against her, and as a result she has been ordered to go back on May 13, as reported by Rolling Stone. 'The matter remains under investigation,' said DA spokesman Greg Risling. 'A case has not been formally presented to the District Attorney's Office for filing consideration. Ms. Shriner remains out of custody on bond.' Risling added: 'A formal case presentation is anticipated within the next week. Our office will make a filing decision shortly thereafter.' Prosecutors said at the hearing that the Los Angeles Police Department was still investigating the case, according to CBS. The matter has apparently not yet been presented to the DA's office, but attorney Jeff Liu said: 'We anticipate that will happen within the next week.' The court date came days after released bodycam footage revealed jaw-dropping details about the moment Lauren was shot by police in her LA backyard. LAPD released bits of bodycam and security footage, as well as audio clips from 911 calls pertaining to the incident. The bombshell evidence shows LAPD officers approaching her home after being tipped off that a crime suspect had snuck into the yard. Officers were then seen peering over a fence into the property as Lauren entered the area bearing a handgun, as captured on home surveillance video. The LAPD unveiled three different angles of body-worn camera footage, documenting the chaotic moments leading up to shots being fired. 'Put the gun down!' one cop was heard shouting. The command was allegedly refused by Lauren - who recently went public about her ongoing cancer battle - multiple times. 'Ma'am! We're trying to help you!' one of the officers frantically warned. 'Drop the gun! You're going to get shot! You're going to get shot, it's the police!' After several tense minutes of the police officers urging Lauren to drop her weapon, one of the cops indicated she may be getting ready to shoot. 'Hey, she just pointed it. Not at us but she lifted it up,' he said. Footage from Lauren's yard allegedly shows her raising her weapon, firing at cops and walking into her home after she got hit by a bullet. Shortly after the heated encounter, police reportedly received a 911 call from one of Lauren's neighbors, who she was with at the time. The phone call indicated she believed the three policemen were the hit-and-run suspects. 'There were three men, she says there were three men and one of them shot her and the cops are looking for him right now,' the neighbor explained to the 911 operator. 'They have their guns out and like, I don't know if they found him yet or not, but they told me to not look out the window.' Lauren then chimed in and explained the incident from her perspective: 'I had my gun, and he said put down that gun, put down that gun. 'I said put down your f**king gun. And then he shot me.' About an hour after the ordeal, Lauren walked outside and was confronted by police officers. Body-worn video shows Lauren sprawled out in the middle of the road as cops handcuffed her and noticed she was shot. She was taken to the hospital to treat the non-fatal wound and cops confirmed Lauren was not involved in the original hit-and-run. Lauren was charged for firing at the police, but she was later released from custody after posting her $1 million bail. The suspect cops were initially looking for was detained by California Highway Patrol officers, cited and released, shortly after Lauren's arrest. Meanwhile, the remaining two suspects who fled the multi-car crash remain at large. Lauren and Shriner married in 2005 and they have two adopted children together. Beyond her marriage to Shriner, Lauren has found fame on her own after penning a series of memoirs and true crime books. She also worked as a crime reporter, and was involved in investigating the serial killer Samuel Little, one of the most prolific murderers in US history.

Weezer Bassist's Wife Jillian Lauren Officially Charged For April's Cop Shooting Incident
Weezer Bassist's wife Jillian Lauren Shriner has officially received her charges, but lower than expected. Scott Shriner's wife was finally charged for getting involved in a firearm incident involving law enforcement agents last month. Jillian Lauren Shriner, was shot and arrested by Los Angeles police after she allegedly pointed a handgun at police officers during a search for a hit-and-run suspect. The Los Angeles County District Attorney officially filed felony charges against her for the discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and felony assault with a semiautomatic handgun. Initially, she faced an even more severe accusation: attempted murder of a peace officer. The incident occurred on April 8 when police searched her Eagle Rock neighborhood for a suspect. Jillian Lauren emerged from her home with a pistol, leading to a confrontation captured on body cam and security footage. As officers, who were behind a wooden fence, shouted at her to drop the weapon, she allegedly raised her arm and fired at them, prompting officers to return fire and strike her in the shoulder. Despite the violent nature of the encounter, when she was later in contact with law enforcement, it appeared she was unaware that she had pointed a firearm at the police. She reportedly called to report a prowler in her area and later surrendered to law enforcement after they arrived. Jillian Lauren was then arrested after receiving medical treatment for her injury. TMZ reported that prosecutors are now pursuing a potential sentence of up to 19 years in prison if she is convicted. Fortunately, it seems Jillian Lauren is recovering well from her injury, as noted by her husband shortly after the incident. The Blast shared that Jillian Lauren made headlines when she announced that she is undergoing cancer treatment this year. In a lighthearted March 4th Instagram post from her hospital bed, she expressed gratitude towards her care team. "I'd like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at #glendaleadventisthospital. As if they all hadn't been through enough with the fires right next door!" she penned down. The writer also humorously acknowledged her diagnosis, referring to it as "a little bit of the C word." She praised the incredible oncology team that helped her through a complicated operation. Jillian Lauren could not stop gushing about the compassionate and excellent medical care she has received throughout her life. Concluding her post, she touched on the emotional weight of the experience with a simple reminder to "breathe." Jillian Lauren remained silent following the recent arrest, with no statements released by her representative. Uncertainty also surrounded her legal situation, as she has not yet made an appearance in court. Married to Scott since 2005, the couple has two children and faced significant challenges on their journey to parenthood, including struggles with infertility. They eventually found fulfillment through adoption, welcoming their son Tariku from Ethiopia. Jillian Lauren's writing often garnered critical acclaim for its explorations of trauma, identity, and resilience, but her recent legal troubles add a troubling new dimension to her already scrutinized life. Amidst these developments, law enforcement indicated that only one of the three suspects involved in the hit-and-run incident has been located and cited. As noted by The Blast last month, just days after the chaotic events in their Eagle Rock neighborhood, Scott and Jillian Lauren made their first public appearance together. Photos revealed a visibly frail Jillian Lauren leaning on Scott for support as they approached a waiting car. The writer was reportedly recovering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder, which she sustained during the incident involving police in April. The drama reportedly began earlier in April when a suspect, after a three-car crash on the 134 Freeway, ran into the couple's neighborhood, engaging in bizarre behavior to evade capture. Amid the chaos, Jillian Lauren reportedly felt compelled to defend her home from the intruder. Police later retrieved a 9mm handgun from their residence. Despite the gravity of the situation, Scott maintained a lighthearted demeanor when speaking to reporters about his wife's condition, reassuring them that she was "alright." In true rocker fashion, he also added, "See you at Coachella." In a statement addressing the arrest, LAPD spokesperson Jennifer Forkish provided insights from their preliminary investigation into the serious incident involving the author. The investigation reportedly uncovered key evidence, including a shell casing and video footage that illustrated the suspect's (Jillian Lauren) failure to comply with police commands to disarm. Reports indicated that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers, leading to her booking on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer. Additionally, dramatic audio recordings from the scene reveal the situation's urgency. Officers on the scene reportedly alerted dispatch about Jillian Lauren's armed status and categorized her actions as assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer. What face awaits Scott Shriner's wife after these charges? Time will tell!

Los Angeles Police Release Video of Armed Confrontation That Wounded Author, Wife of Weezer Bassist
LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles police have released video from the shooting of author Jillian Lauren, the wife of a Weezer band member, during a chaotic backyard confrontation that culminated in a volley of gunfire. Lauren's wounds were not life-threatening in the April 8 shooting in the northeast Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock, where the 51-year-old wife of Weezer bass player Scott Shriner emerged from her home with a gun as city police and the California Highway Patrol searched the area for three people who fled a car wreck. Lauren—listed by police as Jillian Lauren Shriner—was released on a $1 million bond on suspicion of attempted murder pending further investigation. She is scheduled to appear in court April 30. Police released the excerpts from body camera recordings, surveillance video and audio of 911 dispatch conversations on Friday. The video clips show officers peering over a high wooden fence into a yard and shouting over the noise of a surveillance helicopter at a woman to put down her gun or risk getting shot. The fence obscures from the cameras what is on the other side. 'Ma'am, we're trying to help you. Put the gun down,' a voice says. 'You're going to get shot. It's the police.' An officer indicates that the woman has cocked a gun—'Oh, she racked it'—immediately before the sound of at least six shots rings out. Further body camera video shows Lauren lying prone in the middle of a residential road as police place handcuffs behind her back, while noting that she has a wound on her arm. Lauren's published works include two bestselling memoirs—2010s 'Some Girls: My Life in a Harem' and 2015's 'Everything You Ever Wanted.' Weezer is a Los Angeles-based band, beloved especially for its 1994 record unofficially known as the 'Blue Album,' with songs including 'Say It Ain't So.' Shriner joined the band in the early 2000s.
