8-hour water interruptions to affect parts of Tshwane on Wednesday
The City of Tshwane has announced two planned water supply interruptions in Atteridgeville as technicians carry out pipeline upgrades and fittings to improve service delivery. ADVERTISEMENT On Wednesday, 11 June, city technicians will begin upgrading a 75 mm uPVC pipeline to a larger 200 mm uPVC line. This project, which spans 56 metres and will take place between 8:00 and 16:00, runs from the tee along Masopha and Hlakola streets to Maseremule Street. According to city officials, this upgrade is critical to improving water pressure and reliability in the area. 'These upgrades are anticipated to bring… improved pressure regulation, which helps prevent pipe bursts and water loss,' the City of Tshwane said in a statement. Second water interruption scheduled for 18 June A second phase of the project is scheduled for Wednesday, 18 June, at the Atteridgeville Taxi Rank on the corner of Maunde and Schurveberg streets. Technicians will install 150 mm PVR pipe fittings, which are also expected to take eight hours from 8:00 until 16:00. Water interruptions will affect residents in Atteridgeville Extensions 17 and 18. While the city acknowledges the inconvenience to residents, it stresses the long-term benefits. These include an 'extended lifespan of infrastructure' and 'enhanced water supply management, especially during high-demand periods.' Moreover, the city assures residents that every effort will be made to complete the work within the allocated time. Call for water-saving measures Tshwane has urged residents to adopt everyday water conservation habits in its broader water management efforts. These include avoiding using hosepipes or sprinklers to water gardens between 6:00 and 18:00, refraining from washing vehicles with hosepipes, and not filling swimming pools during the peak period. ADVERTISEMENT The city said that 'increased system efficiency to ensure stable and consistent water supply' is a primary objective behind these efforts. Tshwane apologised for any inconvenience the water interruptions may cause and thanked residents for their patience. Local church donates school uniforms
Learners from N'wa-Vangani Primary School in Mamelodi East have been showered with school uniforms to keep warm this winter. The generous donation was made by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in SA, Mamelodi East Parish, to more than 50 learners on Friday. Reverend Thembani Mayayise from the church said the learners received school uniforms, including belts for the school boys. Mayayisa said the donations are part of the church community social investment project, together with their partners, Genesis Corporate Solutions. The church project is not only aimed at schools but is for the church and the community at large. 'We are grateful for the school to allow us to contribute towards the well-being of the learners at the school,' he said. 'We brought jerseys, trousers, shirts, shoes and belts for the learners who desperately need these school uniforms to keep warm in winter. 'We have partnered with Genesis to co-operate with helping to buy the school uniforms,' said Mayayisa. He said this is not a once-off donation and they are planning to come back next year to do more for the school, especially in winter. Learners were encouraged to take their schoolwork seriously and strive to perform exceptionally well in their studies. Matimu Mandlhazi from Genesis Corporate Solutions said, 'We believe in empowering young children and also making an impact in the educational sector. 'We have decided to partner with the church with a contribution of R30 000.' Mandlhazi said they are looking forward to seeing the project grow from strength to strength, and they wish to do more in future for the school. A member of the school governing body at N'wa-Vangani Primary School, Millicent Maluleka, thanked the church and its partners for the generous donations. Maluleka said the donations of school uniforms came just at the right time. She said giving is a good sign of love and also teaches their learners to give. 'We have learners who come from disadvantaged families, and these donations will uplift the spirit of learners,' said Maluleka. She added that the generous donations will also help them improve their school work. Do you have more information about the story? Please send us an email to bennittb@ or phone us on 083 625 4114. The search for a missing aircraft has ended in tragedy after it was recovered, and the three people aboard found dead. According to reports, the aircraft departed Virginia Airport north of Durban at around 3pm on Sunday but failed to reach its alternate destination. It was last tracked flying over Ladysmith, heading south towards either Pietermaritzburg or Greytown. 'The Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC) informed us that they will be handing over the matter to the SAPS Accident and Incident Investigation Division and the South African Civil Aviation Authority for the official investigation,' said Transport MEC Siboniso Duma. 'We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. 'In particular, we are in touch with Zama Biyela, mother of the late student pilot Nqobile Biyela.
