Paul Brunson gives verdict on 'closure chat' after Tasha Ghouri's sad admission
Traditionally, a breakup means you've ended the relationship and will never speak to your ex again - so why are people now so adamant on a "closure" chat?
A closure chat is typically when a couple who have recently broken up, meet up and talk about the breakup, offering the chance to get feelings off their chest, and accept the relationship is done and dusted. A study, published in the Sage Journal Emerging Adulthood, shows that those who gain this understanding of why the relationship broke down will experience less inner turmoil during and after the breakup.
However closure chats cause mixed opinions, with some thinking it's just an excuse to talk to an ex with the hopes of getting back together. But relationship expert Paul C Brunson has said it is a good chance to be able to move on properly.
Love Island star Tasha Ghouri recently spoke to Rylan Clark on his podcast Rylan: How to Be in Love, where she admitted she never had the "closure chat" with her ex Andrew Le Page. Tasha and Andrew met in the famous dating show villa, and were together for nearly three years before they called it quits earlier this year.

The couple had bought a house together in 2024 and even shared a dog, but their relationship slowly broke down over the years. Now Tasha has spoken out about their split to Rylan, where she said they never had the "closing chapter".
The strictly star said: "He was the first boy I was in love with. I learned so much from him and he taught me so much about love and I will take that with me." However, Tasha said it was " weird" that they didn't have the closing chapter.
She continued: "You know when you have that last chat and you have that closure? We didn't have that," and said she feels like it's still "lingering". Tasha confessed to Rylan she thinks one day they will have the chat and hopes when things are settled they can get back in touch and find "civil-ness" between them.

Paul, who is an expert on the dating show Married At First Sight, as well as Tinder's Global Relationship Expert told Daily Mirror: "Closure isn't about dragging up old drama, it's about giving yourself permission to move on properly. It's a chance to get clarity, say your piece, and leave the relationship with some emotional loose ends tied up."
He said it's a chance for you to have a "clean slate" for the future and closure "helps draw a clear line between your past and your present, so you can show up with real intent and emotional clarity." In 2025, emotional availability is one of the top qualities singles are seeking - with 30% naming it as a key trait in potential matches.
Having the chat is doesn't mean you're then ready to date again afterwards, Paul said "it's also about showing that you value your own wellbeing" and concluded: "So before you jump back into the dating pool, take a beat. Have the chat and say what you need to say. It's not just about looking back, it's about giving yourself the space to move forward, with confidence and clarity. Your next match will thank you for it."

Love Island's Tommy and Ben enjoy boozy night out together after they both cheated with Towie star
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LOVE Island star Tommy and Ben hit the clubs for a boozy night out - just days after they kissed the same Towie star at an event. On the series finale, the axed stars left Maya Jama open-mouthed as they both admitted snogging the same person at a celeb party. The Sun then revealed that both Ben and Tommy kissed Towie star Dani Imbert that night. Last night Ben and Tommy were out last night and shared a snap of them enjoying cocktails. The lads looked in good spirits as they smiled for the photo, putting last week's troubles behind them. It comes after Tommy, who left the villa with Lucy Quinn, held his head in his hands and admitted he acted "disrespectfully", telling Maya how he "messed up" for going behind Lucy's back for the secret snog. An eyewitness at the celeb bash told The Sun: 'Dani spent ages chatting to Ben at the event and they did share a snog. 'But then later in the night when everyone had hit the free bar, she ended up kissing Tommy too. 'As far as she was concerned they were both single - and so is she!' The next day it was revealed that Tommy had split from Lucy, who he left the villa with after a shock dumping. Speaking on Aftersun last week he vowed to stay friends with her. Towie's Dani Imbert speaks for first time about snogging two Love Island boys in one night - after BOTH lads are dumped for cheating But it sounds like Ben's ex Andrada isn't keen on keeping in touch. She also turned on him during the penultimate episode when the axed Islanders returned to the villa to send one couple home before the final. The taxi driver, 23, and the nail technician, 27, vowed to give their romance a go on the outside after they were dumped from the villa following a public vote. But just days after they gushed over each other on Love Island's Aftersun, the pair seemed to have already called it a day. Returning to the villa, the gang voted to send Meg and Dejon home, but before all the votes had been cast, Andrada brought some extra drama as she confronted her ex, Ben. Maya asked what had happened and Andrada revealed: "So we came outside the villa he went exclusive with me, and he was about to meet my family next week. "It took one event where I wasn't there and his head turned." Ben replied: "I wouldn't say it turned." But Andrada was having none of it, spinning her finger in the air and saying: "360 baby. Turned. Just be a man, like if you're going to do it, do it with chest and stand on it." 5 Ben was seen getting cosy with the Essex star Credit: The Sun 5 Lucy and Tommy split just a day after his antics at the party Credit: Shutterstock Editorial
