Luka Doncic Breaks His Silence On New Lakers Contract
Luka Doncic Breaks His Silence On New Lakers Contract originally appeared on The Spun. The Los Angeles Lakers wasted no time signing Luka Doncic to an extension this offseason. On Saturday, the first day the franchise was able to offer him one, the Lakers signed the Slovenian-born superstar to a three-year, $165 million contract per ESPN's Shams Charania — with the third year being a player option. The way Los Angeles structured the deal it will make Luka eligible to sign for a massive four years, $323 million in the summer of 2027 after missing out on the supermax in Dallas. Or, by declining the option, he could sign for an even bigger five-year contract worth around $418 million at age 29. The past few months have been busy ones for Doncic who has seemingly transformed his body heading in the 2025-26 season as he looks to retake his spot as a top 2-3 player in the NBA. Taking to social media earlier today, the five-time All-Star announced the signing of his new deal to remain with the Purple & Gold. "I just signed my extension with the Lakers," Luka shared. "Excited to keep working to bring championships to LA and make Laker Nation proud. Grateful to the Lakers, my teammates and all the fans who've shown so much love since day one. This is just the beginning. 💜💛" Doncic now becomes the centerpiece of the Lakers' future with LeBron James likely heading for retirement before the decade closes out — and the organization couldn't have found a better player to hand the keys to. Since arriving in the NBA at 19, Doncic has averaged less than 27 points per game just once — and that was in his Rookie of the Year campaign with the Mavs. Additionally in his seven professional seasons stateside, he's already racked up more first-team All-NBAs than Steph Curry, Chris Paul and Kawhi Leonard — all of whom he's much younger than and all of whom will one day reside in the Naismith Hall of Fame. In his recent interview with Men's Health, Doncic shouted out Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant as inspirations for getting into tip-top shape. "Just visually, I would say my whole body looks better," Luka said. "... Every summer I try my best to work on different things. Obviously, I'm very competitive. This summer was just a little bit different, you know. It kind of motivated me to be even better." "This year, with my team, I think we did a huge step," he concluded. "But this is just the start, you know. I need to keep going. Can't stop."Luka Doncic Breaks His Silence On New Lakers Contract first appeared on The Spun on Aug 2, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 2, 2025, where it first appeared.

Thad Jean targets Cedric Doumbe following 2025 PFL championship win
Thad Jean has set his sights on one of the most dangerous strikers in MMA after capturing the 2025 PFL welterweight title. Jean (11-0) is looking to throw down with former two-time Glory Kickboxing champion Cedric Doumbe. The interest comes on the heels of Jean's big win over Logan Storley to win the 2025 PFL welterweight tournament earlier this month in Atlantic City. Jean knows there are many top names wanting to take his unbeaten record, but out of all the contenders, Doumbe excites Jean the most. "I would love that Cedric Doumbe fight," Jean told MMA Junkie. "Personally, if it was up to me, I would definitely go that Cedric Doumbe route first. I've been looking at him for a while now actually." Doumbe has also shown interest in the fight with some recent comments on social media. Jean wouldn't mind visiting France to fight in enemy territory. His only request is the timeline. "If they're talking about December, then yeah, I'll do it," Jean explained. "If they're talking about anything closer, I'm not going to do it. I'm just going to take a little break. I'm not trying to damage my kidneys with the weight cut because two weight cuts within five months, it's a bit much for the kidneys. If it's in December, I'm taking it, let's go. If we're going to Paris, let's go to Paris. If they're coming over here (South Florida), let's do it." Jean burst onto the MMA scene earlier this year. He was a relatively unknown prospect at the start of 2025, but a knockout win over Mukhamed Berkhamov, a decision win over former Bellator champion Jason Jackson, and the title-winning performance over Storley put Jean on the map as one of the more exciting fighters in the PFL today. Although it might seem that a lot has changed, it's business as usual for Jean. "Not for me personally, but I feel like it did for those around me and those who are skeptical on the outside looking it," Jean said. "I mean, it did help my confidence when it comes to going against just a wrestler itself. Logan Storley is a really good pressure wrestler, and for me to go out and be able to be as calm as I was, and fight the fight that I did for all five rounds definitely played me personally with going back into the training room, 'Ok, this is how I have to improve. This is what I can do.' So, yeah, it definitely set me up for the future skill wise, but for people on the outside looking in I feel like they're noticing, 'Oh, yeah. He's just starting out in his career, and he's now 11-0, he's beaten two world champions, and the sky is the limit. Where is this kid going to go? He can go wherever he wants to.' "That's exactly what it is: I can go wherever I want to, and I'm just going to keep going up." Nevada court apparently clears way for former Raiders coach Jon Gruden to sue NFL over emails
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada court apparently cleared the way Monday for a 2021 lawsuit filed by former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden to proceed against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, alleging that a 'malicious and orchestrated campaign' was used to destroy Gruden's career by leaking old emails he had sent that included racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments. In 2022, the NFL appealed to Nevada's high court after a judge in Las Vegas rejected league bids to dismiss Gruden's claim outright or to order out-of-court talks through an arbitration process that could be overseen by Goodell. The Nevada Supreme Court, in a 5-2 ruling, said that 'the arbitration clause in the NFL Constitution is unconscionable and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee.' Gruden's lawsuit alleged that Goodell and the league pressured the Raiders to fire Gruden by leaking emails containing racist, sexist and homophobic comments that Gruden sent, when he was an on-air analyst at ESPN from 2011 to 2018. Gruden resigned from the Raiders in October 2021 and sued the league a month later. The NFL declined to comment on the ruling. Gruden was Raiders head coach when the team moved in 2020 to Las Vegas from Oakland, California. He's seeking monetary damages, alleging that selective disclosure of the emails and their publication by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times ruined his career and endorsement contracts. Gruden coached the Raiders in Oakland from 1998 to 2001, then led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for seven years, winning a Super Bowl title in 2003. He spent several years as a TV analyst for ESPN before being hired by the Raiders again in 2018. He later consulted for the New Orleans Saints in 2023. He is now a part-owner and consultant for the Nashville Kats, a team in the Arena Football One league.
