Thad Jean targets Cedric Doumbe following 2025 PFL championship win
Jean (11-0) is looking to throw down with former two-time Glory Kickboxing champion Cedric Doumbe. The interest comes on the heels of Jean's big win over Logan Storley to win the 2025 PFL welterweight tournament earlier this month in Atlantic City. Jean knows there are many top names wanting to take his unbeaten record, but out of all the contenders, Doumbe excites Jean the most.
"I would love that Cedric Doumbe fight," Jean told MMA Junkie. "Personally, if it was up to me, I would definitely go that Cedric Doumbe route first. I've been looking at him for a while now actually."
Doumbe has also shown interest in the fight with some recent comments on social media. Jean wouldn't mind visiting France to fight in enemy territory. His only request is the timeline.
"If they're talking about December, then yeah, I'll do it," Jean explained. "If they're talking about anything closer, I'm not going to do it. I'm just going to take a little break. I'm not trying to damage my kidneys with the weight cut because two weight cuts within five months, it's a bit much for the kidneys. If it's in December, I'm taking it, let's go. If we're going to Paris, let's go to Paris. If they're coming over here (South Florida), let's do it."
Jean burst onto the MMA scene earlier this year. He was a relatively unknown prospect at the start of 2025, but a knockout win over Mukhamed Berkhamov, a decision win over former Bellator champion Jason Jackson, and the title-winning performance over Storley put Jean on the map as one of the more exciting fighters in the PFL today.
Although it might seem that a lot has changed, it's business as usual for Jean.
"Not for me personally, but I feel like it did for those around me and those who are skeptical on the outside looking it," Jean said. "I mean, it did help my confidence when it comes to going against just a wrestler itself. Logan Storley is a really good pressure wrestler, and for me to go out and be able to be as calm as I was, and fight the fight that I did for all five rounds definitely played me personally with going back into the training room, 'Ok, this is how I have to improve. This is what I can do.' So, yeah, it definitely set me up for the future skill wise, but for people on the outside looking in I feel like they're noticing, 'Oh, yeah. He's just starting out in his career, and he's now 11-0, he's beaten two world champions, and the sky is the limit. Where is this kid going to go? He can go wherever he wants to.'
"That's exactly what it is: I can go wherever I want to, and I'm just going to keep going up."

Restored ‘Terrible Trolley' honoring Steelers' 4 1970s Super Bowl wins now on display
One of the most popular and recognizable streetcars in the Pittsburgh area has been returned to its full glory. On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum celebrated the restoration of The Terrible Trolley, a Port Authority (now Pittsburgh Regional Transit) streetcar that was painted to celebrate the Steelers' four Super Bowl Championships in the 1970s. It subsequently became a popular symbol of Pittsburgh's claim as 'The City of Champions" through the 1980s. But after the iconic streetcar was retired, it was sold and sat inside in Ohio for 25 years. That is, until the Pittsburgh Trolley Museum acquired it in 2023. 'The Terrible Trolley represents the Pittsburgh region's pride in their beloved sports team. We are excited to present this beautifully restored and nostalgic streetcar to our community,' Executive Director & CEO, Jeanine DeBor said. 'We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our paid and volunteer staff devoted to this project.' The museum partnered with the Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency to restore the trolley to full operation and relocate it to Washington County. 'We were proud to partner with the PA Trolley Museum to not only provide a majority of the funds to refurbish the Terrible Trolley, but to secure its relocation to Washington County for everyone to enjoy,' said Jeff Kotula, with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Promotion Agency. 'In addition, with the NFL Draft coming to Pittsburgh in 2026, the Terrible Trolley will be a tourism draw to Washington County to those visiting our region from all over the United States during the draft.' Steelers' Aaron Rodgers still frustrated with new helmet, says 'it looks like a damn spaceship'
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was asked Tuesday about him walking off the field in Jacksonville after last week's preseason opener alongside 30-year-old edge rusher T.J. Watt and 36-year-old defensive tackle Cam Heyward. The 41-year-old Rodgers said, at this point of his career, he "gravitates toward the old heads." In a much more literal sense, the same is true about Rodgers' affinity for the old Schutt helmet he wore for several years but is now banned by the NFL. The Schutt Air XP Pro Q11 LTD didn't meet the league's new safety standards, so Rodgers has been practicing in the Schutt Air XP Pro VTD II. To say he's ticked off about the wardrobe change would be an understatement. "I don't like it, no," Rodgers said Tuesday, per ESPN. "I'm trying to change. We're in the process still. It looks like a damn spaceship out there." Rodgers added: "We got to change it. The face mask doesn't fit the helmet because that's an old face mask, obviously just like I'm old, but we're trying to find the right helmet right now." Rodgers, known for sticking with a cloth, two-point chinstrap throughout his career despite equipment advances, first complained about the helmet in June at mandatory minicamp, not long after he signed with the Steelers on a one-year deal. The four-time league MVP hasn't tested his new helmet in a game yet. Rodgers, like several other seasoned starters on Pittsburgh's roster, didn't play against the Jaguars this past Saturday. Even if Rodgers doesn't suit up for a preseason game this year, he's still going to get some meaningful reps against an opposing team before Week 1. That's because the Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are holding a joint practice Thursday, two days prior to their exhibition in Acrisure Stadium. "It's good to go against a different team [because] ... you get a chance to go against not-vanilla defenses,' Rodgers said Tuesday, per The Associated Press. "So hopefully [Tampa Bay head coach] Todd [Bowles], he probably won't show everything, but he'll do some stuff to stress our protection and give us a chance to get some film to work on."

Oklahoma QB John Mateer denies gambling, says Venmo transaction titles were 'inside jokes'
Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer says he has never gambled, and the school says there is no NCAA investigation after a recent report showed Mateer twice paid someone on Venmo in 2022 for 'sports gambling.' 'The allegations that I once participated in sports gambling are false,' Mateer said in a statement Tuesday on social media. 'My previous Venmo descriptions did not accurately portray the transactions in question but were instead inside jokes between me and my friends.' Mateer, who was at Washington State during the time in question, said he can understand why the Venmo descriptions could lead one to believe otherwise, so he decided to set the record straight. 'I have never bet on sports,' he said. 'I understand the seriousness of the matter, but recognize that, taken out of context, those Venmo descriptions suggest otherwise. I can assure my teammates, coaches, and officials at the NCAA that I have not engaged in any sports gambling.' In a statement, Oklahoma said it uses ProhiBet for comprehensive monitoring of sports gambling activities. 'OU takes any allegations of gambling seriously and works closely with the NCAA in any situations of concern,' the statement said. 'OU Athletics is unaware of any NCAA investigation and has no reason to believe there is one pending.' Mateer followed former Washington State offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle to Oklahoma this past offseason. Mateer passed for 3,139 yards with 29 touchdowns and just seven interceptions and ran for 826 yards and 15 scores last season. Mateer was one of three players who accompanied Oklahoma coach Brent Venables at SEC Media Days in July. Venables and Oklahoma's players have raved consistently about Mateer's leadership.
