Dramatic twist in hunt for missing teenage girl who mysteriously vanished a week ago after chilling new images emerged of her last walk

Daily Mail01-07-2025
A teenage girl has been found eight days after she vanished in broad daylight in Sydney 's west after her family revealed she would be too shy to ask for help.
Economics student Aanisha Sathik, 18, disappeared from Harrow Road in Auburn after leaving her family home without her phone or any cash about 3.45pm on June 23.
Police believe she was spotted on CCTV footage, apparently wandering aimlessly about 3km away in the neighbouring suburb of Berala between 5.45pm and 6pm.
But there had been no trace of her anywhere until she was found at 2pm in Berala on Tuesday. She has now been rushed to hospital to be assessed.
The breakthrough came after her distraught family begged for help to find the 'very bright' and academically-gifted teenager.
'She is not known to go walking and is very reserved,' her uncle Salman told Daily Mail Australia before she was located.
'She wouldn't have been asking people for food. She's so bright but she had no interests, not many friends.'
Her parents Fatima and Sadiq Sathik had joined police in appealing to locals in nearby homes to check their backyards or garages for any sign of her on Monday.
'We don't know what happened to our daughter,' her father sobbed. 'We just want her home safe.
'Seven days, no money, no food. We are worrying a lot. Please help.
'She doesn't have many friends, she always goes with us.
'Our child knows only school and house, nothing much. We're a bit scared now.'
Aanisha is the eldest of their three children and scored highly in her HSCs last year. She is studying a double degree in economics but was hospitalised a year ago.
She had a lot of friends in Year 11, he added, but had become withdrawn and reserved after her spell in hospital.
Police say she was seen walking south along Harrow Rd before spending about two hours in Norman Park from 3pm.
From there, they believe she walked along Mount Auburn Rd and was later captured on CCTV on Woodburn Rd, near Stone St, about 5.50pm.
Salman said that some homes and businesses had checked CCTV cameras, but they hoped there would be more who may have had footage of Aanisha.
He said it was 'unusual for her to go missing' and that when he left home in the past, to go to uni, she always came back for the night'.
On Tuesday, police confirmed she had been found and was being assessed in hospital.

Minnesota man who found car while fishing probably solved 1967 cold case

A fisher who recently went out on the Mississippi River in Minnesota ended up spotting a submerged car and evidently helped solve a nearly 60-year-old missing person case, according to authorities and local news reporting. Brody Loch, the fisher at the center of the remarkable chain of events, told the Minneapolis news outlet WCCO that he called authorities after discovering the 1960s-era Buick in question with a sonar device on the weekend of 9 August. By Wednesday in the community of Sartell, local sheriff's office divers and a tow truck crew had recovered the vehicle. And investigators processing the car found human remains inside, the office of Steve Soyka, the Stearns county sheriff, said in a statement. Furthermore, Soyka's agency said, through the car's vehicle identification number (VIN), investigators were able to determine the car belonged to Roy Benn, who at age 59 was reported missing to the sheriff's office of nearby Benton county in September 1967 – and had not been seen since. Officials have sent the remains in Benn's car to a medical examiner's office for possible identification. Nonetheless, based on the items in the car and its VIN, Soyka's office said it believed the remains were that of Benn. Soyka's office added that it had turned the case over to the Benton county sheriff's office. Benton county's sheriff, Troy Heck, told CNN that his office had notified Benn's remaining family, who had previously been asked for DNA samples. 'We're just grateful that we may likely have finally gotten the break that we needed to bring closure to this family,' Heck said to the network. A missing persons bulletin published by Minnesota's public safety department said Benn was last seen on 25 September 1967 while 'carrying a large sum of money'. He was also driving his 1963 four-door, metallic blue Buick Electra, said the bulletin, which described the car missing alongside Benn. Benn owned an appliance repair service in St Cloud, Minnesota, when he went missing, according to reports at the time from the local daily newspaper. The St Cloud Daily Times also reported that Benn's wife had died the year before he went missing. Benn's brother, Walter, worked with authorities investigating Roy's disappearance, but leads back then never materialized into something definitive, as CNN reported. Walter Benn moved to sell his missing brother's personal possessions at an auction in 1968, the St Cloud Daily Times reported. Roy Benn was then declared legally dead in 1975, about eight years after he was last seen, the St Cloud Daily Times' reporting showed. After finally being located, Benn's car was 'filled with river sediment' and 'severely deteriorated' from being underwater for decades, yet it was 'intact', Sartell's municipal police department said in a statement. Loch told WCCO that he hoped Benn's family was finally closer to getting meaningful answers about what happened to him. He attributed it to good fortune that he and the friend with whom he was fishing didn't float by Benn's car without detecting it on sonar that fateful day. 'It was 100% luck,' Loch said.

Moment irate US tourist grabs 14-year-old female 'pickpocket' by the ponytail and tells her 'you're not getting away' before police arrest young thief in Venice

A US tourist was seen grabbing a teenage 'pickpocket' by the ponytail and vowing not to let her get away before police arrested the young thief in Italy. Footage of the incident, which took place on Thursday in the Santa Maria del Giglio area of Venice, shows the furious American tourist gripping the 14-year-old's hair before leading her out of a crowd of onlookers. Local reports said the unnamed holidaymaker had spotted the teen sneaking her purse, which contained her money and passport, into her bag before she instinctively grabbed her ponytail. But as the young girl struggles and screams at the angry tourist, she holds on tight telling her: 'You stole my purse with my passport in it. 'You are not getting away. I'm not stopping kid. You are not getting away.' When her accomplice threatens to call the police, the sunseeker says: 'Let's get the police and maybe I'll get my passport back.' Passersby then called the police, but when the 'pickpocket' saw them heading towards her, she grabbed her mobile phone and began using it as a weapon. Local media claims she battered her way free by repeatedly striking the head of the older tourist with the device. One blow to the tourist's temple opened up a heavily bleeding wound which required medical attention from paramedics. The two young suspects, who were both minors, resisted arrest but were quickly overpowered and taken to the local station. It was here the pair were charged with theft before being released on bail. The duo were reportedly spotted back on the streets among swathes of tourists just two days later, on Saturday. After the clip of the US tourist and teenager went viral on social media, several users cheered the holidaymaker's fightback. One said: 'Super good job lady. Hold the ponytail tight until the police come. And make them empty their bags and pants.' It comes after a British tourist and his friends found themselves on the end of a beating after one of them allegedly crashed his motorcycle into a local female rider. The brawl was sparked on the night of August 14 after the tourist reportedly attempted a wheelie on a road in Pattaya, eastern Thailand, before allegedly losing control and smashing into a 49-year-old woman. The woman was left in a visible pool of blood near her pink Honda Scoopy-i scooter, while the British man, who was wearing a white t-shirt, could be seen watching with his friends as she received treatment. Police arrived at the scene around 11.06pm and gave the 49-year-old CPR before rushing her to hospital - where she was said to be left unconscious and in a critical condition.

Father and son's heartbreaking last moments as they were killed getting ice cream

The heartbroken neighbour of a father and son who died in when they were hit by a car on a morning walk to get ice cream has recalled his final moments with the pair. Braiden Ashley Timmins, 33, and his four-year-old son Hendrix-Hemi Te Rongomau King were heading to a 7-Eleven service station in Regents Park, a suburb in the city of Logan, south of Brisbane, on Sunday. The pair were walking along Green Road when a white dual cab utility struck them shortly after 11am. Derek O'Malley, who has lived next door to the family for more than five years, recalled waving them off as he would nearly every other day. 'I see Braiden almost every day. We always wave to each other. He was walking past the house with his son. He (Mr Timmins) said they were on their way to get an ice cream, Mr O'Malley told the Courier-Mail. 'I said ''Oh that's great'' you know, ''Have a great day''.' He said Mr Timmins was holding his son's hand while little Hendrix rode his pink toddler bicycle alongside him. Mr O'Malley was later on the way home from his own trip into town when he spotted Hendrix's pink bicycle 'crushed' on the ground beside the crash site. It wasn't until he heard a cry from inside the house next-door, however, that he realised Mr Timmins and his son had been involved in the crash. 'I didn't put the two and two together, and then I went outside and started talking to (Mr Timmin's stepfather) and went ''oh my god, I just went past it''. 'I didn't think it'd be Braiden and his son, because I couldn't see Braiden. 'We continued talking and he asked if the bike was pink and I said yes it was, and he's gone ''shit''. 'It's still hard to believe they're gone,' he added. Loved ones have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Hendrix's grieving mother in giving the toddler the 'farewell he deserves'. 'Hendrix was full of joy, cheeky grins, and boundless love. He lit up every room he entered and brought so much happiness to his family and friends,' it reads. 'His life was cut far too short, and we are left heartbroken, struggling to comprehend a world without him.' Queensland police confirmed the father and son suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene. Distraught family members were escorted to the scene by police and were seen sobbing near the bike. Two police officers surrounded a male relative who was doubled over in grief, while two women held each other and cried nearby. Police charged the driver, Trevor William Galbraith, a 41-year-old man from Regents Park, on Sunday night with two counts of manslaughter. He is set to face Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday. Authorities closed Green Road for hours on Sunday while investigators from the Forensic Crash Unit attended and inspected the scene. Anyone with information about the crash, or dashcam or CCTV footage of the utility prior to the incident, is urged to contact police on 1800 333 000.
