"India an important country, its views count," Greece Ex-Envoy to India says
Athens [Greece], May 28 (ANI): Yannis Alexis Zepos, Former Ambassador of Greece to India, has said that Greece has for a long time condemned terrorism in all its forms.
Zepos, while talking to ANI, said that as India is an important country in the world, its views are important, and Greece is happy to hear its views.
'We are very happy to receive the delegation. They have several contacts in Athens, and it is important to hear the Indian views on things. India is an important country in the world, and their views count, and we are happy to have them here. These issues [of cooperation between India and Greece on combating terrorism] have already been taken up and have been discussed, and they will be discussed further as our bilateral relation improves and goes ahead,' he told ANI.
Zepos said that Greece has always condemned terrorism in all its forms wherever it has happened.
'We have consistently and for a long time condemned terrorism wherever that happens, and this is a basic Greek position that is not to change so basically what is important is we condemn terrorism wherever it happens in the world,' he said.
He added that both the countries are already cooperating in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, and can go further if required.
'We are cooperating already on maritime security, and we can go further, and as you know, the IMEC project is something that is very interesting to both sides and we're working with the Indian side also on the IMEC prospect, which also includes, of course, maritime security,' he said.
His comments come as the group to visit Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, and Russia, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, is currently in Athens.
The delegation includes Rajeev Rai (Samajwadi Party), Mian Altaf Ahmad (Jammu and Kashmir National Conference), Brijesh Chowta (BJP), Prem Chand Gupta (Rashtriya Janata Dal), Ashok Kumar Mittal (Aam Aadmi Party), and Former envoys Manjeev S Puri and Jawed Ashraf. (ANI)

The demolition, conducted to remove illegal encroachments along the Barapullah drain in compliance with a Delhi high court order, has left hundreds of families, mostly originally from Tamil Nadu, displaced. Mani, a Tamil resident affected by the demolition, expressed frustration over the lack of opportunities in Tamil Nadu, stating, "They should give jobs to those already in Madras right now, and then they should call us. Why are people roaming around there? First, they should handle Tamil Nadu, then they should look at Delhi. If they had given us jobs, why would we have come to Delhi from Tamil Nadu?" On Sunday, authorities carried out a demolition drive at Madrasi Camp in Jangpura, South East Delhi, following court orders to remove encroachments along the Barapullah drain. The clearance was aimed at addressing flooding problems caused by the narrowing of the drain, which restricts water flow during heavy rainfall. A total of 370 encroachments were removed. Of the affected residents, 189 have been found eligible for resettlement and have been allotted flats in Narela, while 181 were deemed ineligible for rehabilitation. Lawyers don't need to wear black coats in summer: Delhi Bar Association
In a major relief to lawyers practising in the Capital amidst the scorching heat, the Delhi Bar Association (DBA) has decided that advocates will be exempt from wearing black coats, their usual dress code, from May 16 to September 30. Rules framed under Section 49(1)(gg) of the Advocates Act, 1961, prescribe a dress code for all practising advocates. This comprises a black buttoned-up coat, chapkan, achkan (a knee-length upper garment with long sleeves, side slits and a standing collar), black sherwani and white bands with advocate's gown for men advocates. Women advocates have to wear a black and full or half-sleeve jacket or blouse, white collar, stiff or soft, and white bands with advocates' gowns or sarees and long skirts (white or black without any design). 'All the members are hereby informed that advocates are exempted from wearing a black coat during summer (from May 16 to September 30) as per amendment in rules under Section 49(1)(gg) of the Advocates Act,1961,' DBA said in a circular dated May 24. 'Therefore, the members are at liberty to appear in the Courts subordinate to the Delhi High Court without wearing a black coat… The members are, however, advised to adhere to other rules of the dress code…,' the circular issued by Vikas Goyal, Secretary, DBA, said. DBA also said the district and sessions judges of various court complexes across Delhi have been informed of this decision. 'This is a very good step. The weather is very erratic and humid. In June, the heat will be way worse. This should be done by all Bar Associations and Councils across North India,' said Advocate Dhir Singh Kasana, former Saket Bar Association secretary. 'Indian district courts lack proper infrastructure in terms of fans, air conditioners, unhygienic washrooms, and sitting rooms, coupled with rising temperatures, it has become a daily physical and mental challenge for the advocates to wear black coats during court hours, especially in summer…This move is a welcome step towards the welfare of the advocates practising at district courts,' Advocate Paras Jain, who practices in Delhi, said. On February 27 this year, the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa (BCMG) issued a circular stating that advocates need not wear black coats from March 1 to June 30 every year. Similarly, Bhopal's Bar Council gave a similar exemption to lawyers from April 15 to July 15, 2025.
