Horschel, 38, is currently 24th in the world rankings and could have made his bow in the cross-Atlantic tournament.
He would not have automatically qualified, but could have made a case to be a captain's pick.
But the Grant-Valkaria native is now set for a spell off the course following surgery.
He revealed the necessity for medical help on social media.
He wrote: "Health update. After consulting with doctors and my team, I have decided to have right hip surgery early next week out in Colorado.
"It's an unfortunate situation with so many great events left on the calendar but this is a preventative measure.
"I'm already itching to start rehab, get back to practicing and I look forward to returning to the course sometime around late summer/early fall.
"I would like to thank my family, friends, sponsors and partners for their continued support of me.

Bob MacIntyre blows four-shot lead as Scheffler wins BMW Championship

Bob MacIntyre blew a four-shot lead in the final round as the world No 1, Scottie Scheffler, produced a moment of magic to clinch victory at the BMW Championship in Maryland. MacIntyre's big overnight advantage was whittled to a single stroke after he started Sunday with two bogeys and, despite a gallant effort, he could do nothing to quell the American's momentum. Back within touching distance with two to play, MacIntyre watched as Scheffler nailed a remarkable chip from the rough to in effect confirm his victory on the penultimate hole. It was hard to take for MacIntyre, who had produced his own memorable moment on the final hole on Saturday when he sunk a 41ft putt to retain his significant advantage. Seeking the win that would have sealed his place in Europe's Ryder Cup team, MacIntyre made a nightmare start on Sunday but Scheffler was also far from perfect, a missed putt restoring the Scot's two-stroke lead after three holes. The American hauled level on the 5th after MacIntyre found a bunker on his approach shot, and Scheffler looked to be in irresistible form as he moved two clear on the 13th. A Scheffler bogey five on the 14th reduced his lead again but the 15th proved pivotal as the Oban man failed to capitalise on Scheffler finding a bunker with his approach shot. He missed a birdie putt, while the American nailed his. But MacIntyre hadn't given up, and cut the lead to one shot again with two to play, with a birdie four at the 16th after finding the green in two with a 265-yard second shot. However, after Scheffler's uproarious response on the 17th, MacIntyre failed to respond with more final hole magic and putted out for a three-over-par final round of 73, two shots off Scheffler's 15-under-par total of 265. The title was Scheffler's 18th on the PGA Tour, and the fifth this year, the second season in a row he has managed that total, something done before only by Tiger Woods. A final round of 67 shunted Tommy Fleetwood up to a tie for fourth place behind American Maverick McNealy, but England's Harry Hall, who started Sunday tied for fourth, fell back with a disappointing 70 to finish in sixth place. Rory McIlroy was hampered by back-to-back double bogeys on the 5th and 6th holes as he failed to make inroads on the chasing pack, matching Hall's final round of 70 to finish down in a tie for 12th.

Henley, English, DeChambeau sew up U.S. Ryder Cup spots

August 17 - OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau received the final three automatic qualifying spots on the U.S. Ryder Cup team following Sunday's results at the BMW Championship. The top six Americans in qualifying points following the BMW are guaranteed spots on the team that will battle Team Europe at Bethpage Black next month. Henley tied for 15th at the BMW to remain in fourth in the U.S. points standings, and English tied for 12th to move into fifth. DeChambeau, meanwhile, did not receive qualifying points from LIV Golf, but thanks to his finishes at recent major championships, he still had enough to remain in the top six. They join Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele, who were mathematically locked into the 12-man team before Sunday. Schauffele won two majors in 2024, Spaun broke through at the U.S. Open in June and Scheffler has collected three majors in this two-year cycle amid his dominant run as the world's best golfer. Henley, 36, has five PGA Tour victories, including at this year's Arnold Palmer Invitational. He competed at the 2024 Presidents Cup, but this will mark his first Ryder Cup appearance. English, 36, likewise has five PGA Tour titles to his name and won the Farmers Insurance Open back in January. He tied for second at the PGA Championship and was the runner-up to Scheffler at The Open. English played for the victorious U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2021 but did not make the team that lost to Europe in 2023. DeChambeau, 31, is one of the best players on the LIV circuit and won his second major title at the 2024 U.S. Open. He earned plenty of points by earning three top-10s at majors in 2025, including T2 at the PGA Championship. This will be his third Ryder Cup. Other contenders who came up short of an automatic spot included Justin Thomas, who entered the week No. 7; Collin Morikawa, who was No. 8; and No. 11 Maverick McNealy, who could have leapfrogged DeChambeau in points if he won the BMW Championship. McNealy came close, but finished the event third. All eyes turn to Keegan Bradley, who will announce six captain's picks on Aug. 27. Thomas and Morikawa are virtually guaranteed spots; others with an argument include Ryder Cup veterans Patrick Cantlay, Sam Burns and Rickie Fowler, and in-form youngsters Cameron Young and Chris Gotterup, both from the New York/New Jersey area. Young and Gotterup won on tour this summer and Young placed 11th at the BMW. Of course, Bradley also has the ability to choose himself and become the first playing captain at the Ryder Cup since Arnold Palmer in 1963. Bradley was controversially left off the roster in 2023 before Zach Johnson's U.S. team was flattened by Team Europe in Rome. Bradley, 39, was No. 10 in the Ryder Cup qualifying standings entering the week. He tied for 17th at the BMW. Team Europe has one more week before the top six players in the continent's standings automatically qualify. European players can earn points at the British Masters on the DP World Tour, but not stateside at the Tour Championship. Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Justin Rose (England) and Tommy Fleetwood (England) had clinched their spots on the team before this week, and fourth-place Robert MacIntyre (Scotland) will surely be helped by his runner-up finish at the BMW. --Adam Zielonka, Field Level Media

Gutted Robert MacIntyre admits he BLEW it as he loses BMW duel with Open champ Scottie Scheffler

MacIntyre had bogeys at the first, second and fifth and never recovered as he hit a three-over round of 73. Scheffler led by the turn at Caves Valley and finished with a three-under 67 to grab the $3.6million winner's cheque. MacIntyre, who earned $2.16m as runner-up, edged back to within one stroke of Scheffler but dropped another shot on the 13th. Scheffler then shed a shot but birdied the 15th to restore a two-shot lead. MacIntyre, 29, halved that advantage again with his first birdie of the day on the 16th hole. But Scheffler - who has now had 17 consecutive rounds in the 60s - ended his hopes when he holed from off the green at the 17th. It was a cruel end for MacIntyre, who held on for second place ahead of Maverick McNealy. And he didn't hold back as he asssessed his final round. The Oban ace said: "I didn't feel like I controlled distance well. It was just a poor day. Watch moment Scots golf ace Robert MacIntyre wins new fans with 'pure class' gesture after US Open heartbreak "Right now, it's absolutely disastrous. Without swearing, it was abysmal. "I don't know what else to say - absolutely abysmal." The second-placed finish also guarantees MacIntyre's spot on Luke Donald's European team at next month's Ryder Cup. The Scot will tee it up at Bethpage State Park - and got into the spirit of things for that clash during his third round when he shushed a noisy fan in the crowd. But the Ryder Cup spot seemed like scant consolation for MacIntyre after coming so close - yet so far - from what would have been the biggest win of his career so far.
