Man City will complete transfers before Club World Cup, says Al Mubarak
MANCHESTER, England: Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has promised the club will be ready with a new squad in time for the FIFA Club World Cup and that their transfer moves will be very swift.
Premier League clubs agreed to open a pre-Club World Cup transfer window on June 1 for 10 days to allow teams to sign players before the tournament.
"We have clearly identified who exactly are the targets, in what positions, and we have our clear number one option, our clear number two option," Al Mubarak said in an interview with City's club media channels.
"And we'll go about our business and it will be very clear, very swift. And our objective is to try to be ready with the new squad for the Club World Cup."
City face Wydad AC in their first game of the tournament on June 18.
The team, bidding for a fifth successive Premier League title, suffered a mid-season free fall and finished third in the table, not securing a Champions League berth until the final day of the season.
Al Mubarak admitted City had not been successful in last summer's transfer window.
"Last summer, we probably should have been more aggressive in some of the changes we needed to do," Al Mubarak said. "We didn't do that and that ended up costing us this year. We already started that rebuild of this team in January."
City brought in Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez during the January window.
They lost to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, however, in and ended the season without a trophy for the first time since 2016-17.
"I think all the players, they're excited, they're excited about coming back. Nobody feels good about how we finished the season," Al Mubarak said.
"They want to come back hungry. And I can see the hunger. I was speaking to Rodri as an example, he's looking for games. Erling (Haaland) didn't want to go on vacation."
Spanish midfielder Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, suffered a serious knee injury in September and did not return to action until the season's final two games.

Next year's World Cup, taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, could be one of the hottest in the tournament's history. "It is important to see matches now in America, and in Miami at three in the afternoon," Tuchel said as he prepared his team for their World Cup qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona. "I will see that. How it looks, and we need to understand how to cool the players down, to drink. What our options are." England are top of qualifying Group K and almost certain to qualify for next year's tournament where they will be among the favourites for the title. But Tuchel says the conditions will be harsh. Sixteen stadiums will be used at next year's World Cup with predictions of potentially extreme temperatures. In Dallas, one of the host cities, in an average year more than 80% of June and July days exceed 28 degrees Celsius. A study led by Brunel University found that, according to analysis of 20 years of weather data, 14 of the 16 host stadiums would top 28 degrees Celsius on a daily basis in June and July with four likely to hit 32 degrees in a hotter than summer. FIFPRO, the world players union, recommends that if there is Wet Bulb Globe Temperature of between 28-32 degree, cooling breaks should take place around the 30th and 75th minutes. Pakistan Women to Play 2025 World Cup Matches in Colombo
PAKISTAN will play their matches at this year's Women's Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka under an International Cricket Council deal that allows them to avoid playing in host nation India. The refusal of India to travel to Pakistan for the men's Champions Trophy earlier this year resulted in the ICC introducing neutral venues to tournaments hosted by either of the neighbouring countries. Nuclear-armed India and Pakistan were last month involved in a four-day military conflict, their worst since 1999, before a ceasefire was agreed. Sri Lanka's Colombo will join Indian host cities Bengaluru, Guwahati, Indore and Visakhapatnam in staging matches from September 30 until the final of the 50-over tournament on November 2, the ICC announced late on Monday. Colombo will be Pakistan's home for seven group games. The first semi-final will take place in either Guwahati or Colombo, if Pakistan progress that far, on October 29 with the second semi-final a day later in Bengaluru. The final will be in either Bengaluru or Colombo on Sunday, November 2. 'The venues for the knockouts are dependent on Pakistan qualifying', the ICC said in a statement. 'Two alternative venues have been identified for one semi-final and the final.' Eight teams will contest the World Cup -- Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Australia beat England by 71 runs in the final of the last Women's World Cup, hosted by New Zealand in 2022.
