Lucy Markovic, 'Australia's Next Top Model' star, dies at 27 of rare brain condition
Australian model Lucy Markovic, a star of "Australia's Next Top Model," has died of a rare brain condition, her representatives announced Thursday. She was 27.
A post on her Instagram story confirmed the successful and prolific model's death.
"I regret to inform you that Lucy has passed," the post read. "She was at peace. Me, her mother and my mother were present with her."
"We ask you to please give us space in these hard times," it continued. It is unclear who posted the announcement to her account.
Markovic died of an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in her brain, her management company, Elite Model Management New York City, said in a Thursday statement.
AVM is an "abnormal tangle of blood vessels" that cause issues with the connections between arteries and veins, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. It most often occurs in the spinal cord and brain.
The Australian Broadcasting Company reported Markovic spoke about her condition on social media in March, in a post that appears to have since been deleted. She told followers she needed surgery for an AVM 'the size of a golf ball," originally scheduled for March 26 but moved to April 2.
Markovic rose to stardom as the runner up on season 9 of 'Australia's Next Top Model' in 2015, losing by one point to Brittany Beattie. She was only a teenager at the time.
She later went on to work for high end brands like Armani, Versace and Victoria Beckham.
'Modeling was one of Lucy's dreams, and we are deeply honored to have been part of that journey with her," her management company posted. "She brought elegance, strength, and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought herself — her warmth, her laughter, her light.'
Donatella Versace honored the late model as well, sharing a photo of Markovic walking the runway for one of her shows in 2023 on her Instagram story, writing 'Rest in peace beautiful girl.'
"Lucy was a bright shining light, and had an incredible dry sense of humor," Elite Model Management said. "Her smile and laughter could light up a room, and draw you closer to her. She loved to dance, she really shined."

She explained: "The interior of the Villa uses lots of brilliant whites as an easy backdrop for the bursts of fun colours throughout the space. "For a full-on Love Island garden vibe, add string fairy lights, sun loungers, and a splattering of colour-blocked cushions in the same blue, pink and yellow colour scheme. "You may also want to coordinate the colour of your outdoor furniture with natural wood and whites. "An easy way to achieve this cohesive look without splashing the cash is by painting your existing garden furniture with exterior paint, helping you stay loyal to the look." 6 The experts say every Love Island fan should have a fire pit in their home Credit: ITV Pop art inspo This is a fairly new one, but pop art goes perfectly with the theme of the Love Island Villa. Lucy advises: "Pop art was introduced to the design of the Villa fairly recently, and it works perfectly with the colour scheme throughout. "Pop art prints are relatively low cost, or you could DIY your own to give your space a cheeky, flirtatious edge. "Pop Art is a great way to add the Love Island look to your casa at a low cost. "And it can also be easily changed in the future to new and exciting art pieces." The five colours that are becoming outdated in 2025 IT'S important to make sure that when you update your space, you create a look that won't quickly become outdated. With that in mind, interior designers have revealed the five colours that are beginning to fade now that we are halfway into 2025. Interior pro Paulina Wojas from Stunning Chairs has said that 2025 is all about creating warm, inviting places. Emerald Green - "While this colour is still loved for its luxe vibe, its declining popularity could be due to it being oversaturated". Camel - "This could be due to Camel's brown-yellow undertone that may be too warm for a clean aesthetic, and 2025 interior trends favouring more muted, earthy tones such as taupe and olive.' Burgundy - "A prominent trend this year is open, airy spaces with organic elements, which could explain burgundy's declining demand". Australian model, Erin McNaught, has revealed her seven month old son has undergone surgery to remove a brain tumour after heartbreakingly noticing a 'rapid decline in his health and happiness' Former Neighbours star Erin McNaught has told fans her baby son, Obi, has undergone surgery to remove a tumour on his brain following "the hardest few days". The brave tot was diagnosed with cancer, aged just seven months, after Erin noticed a "rapid decline in his health and happiness". Thankfully, the mum-of-three, 43, said Obi's medical team were "very happy" with how the major operation went this week as she updated followers while thanking them for their support. Taking to Instagram, sharing a snap of herself kissing little Obi, whose head was wrapped up in bandages, in hospital following his operation, she said: "Today Obi had the surgery to remove the tumour. The amazing team here are very happy with the way it went." Earlier this week, the former Miss Universe Australia and her music producer partner Stace Cadet shared Obi's devastating diagnosis. The couple, who welcomed their first child together in October last year, issued a tearjerking joint statement on Thursday morning, as they opened up about their son's health concerns. "For the last few weeks we have noticed a rapid decline in Obi's behaviour and happiness," the statement began. It continued: "He was having problems eating, sleeping and most recently, keeping his head straight." The couple explained that after noticing Obi change so quickly, they booked him in for an MRI scan under the advice of their doctor. The scan, conducted earlier this week, tragically revealed that a large tumour was situated on the right side of his brain. "At about 6:00pm Tuesday night we met with a neurosurgeon who broke the heartbreaking news," Erin and Stace continued, adding: "We are absolutely shattered and the last few days have been our hardest days." Following Obi's operation, the proud parents praised the team at Queensland Children's Hospital, who are now working with Erin and Stace to devise a treatment plan. "Our team at the Queensland Children Hospital have been incredible and remain hopeful that we can remove the mass and get Obi healthy and happy pending the results," they concluded. The post was met with lots of well wishes from from family, friends and fans, including Erin's ex-husband, British musician, Example, who she shares two children with - sons Evander, seven, and Ennio, five. In November 2007, Erin was cast as Sienna Cammeniti in Neighbours. She said she was "nervous" about joining the show because it was "a big change" to the modelling work she was known for. However, after she began filming her first scenes on 17 December, by March 2008, she revealed her contract had been extended three months before leaving the iconic Aussie soap in July 2008.

On Friday, Minogue said in a social media post that she would postpone her upcoming shows in Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Estonia due to her contracting laryngitis, an inflammation of the voice box. 'Hi Lovers, as some of you may know, a week ago we finished the UK leg of The Tension Tour', she said. 'I made it over the finish line (Yay) but unfortunately have succumbed to a viral infection (Hello laryngitis) I've tried my best to recover fast to start our next run of shows on Monday but I'm afraid it will take me some days to be well enough to get back on stage and perform my best for you.
