PETALING JAYA : A child was found dead in a river behind a shopping mall in Johor Bahru, Johor, on Sunday.
Police said they were still identifying the victim.
Johor Utara police chief MS Balveer Singh said the child, whose body was found floating in Sungai Skudai, is believed to be between five and seven years old.
The victim was wearing an anklet on the left leg.
The body was found by a senior citizen, who lodged a police report, Berita Harian reported.
The cause of death is under investigation.

The Penang fire and rescue department said the man, Teh Seng Keat, was found to be physically injured and exhausted. 'He was brought up using a stretcher and sent for treatment,' the department said in a statement. Teh's daughter said in a Facebook post that her father had been missing since 5.30pm yesterday after he left a relative's house in Batu Lanchang and did not return home. He had phoned her mother this morning and said that his car fell into a ditch but he could not find his way back. The family tried to track him down using his mobile phone and was eventually told that a signal from his device was found around Jalan Baru in Balik Pulau. His car was spotted at around 3.30pm today but he was nowhere to be seen. The Penang fire and rescue department said it received information about a car that had veered off a road at Bukit Titi Seong, Balik Pulau, and fallen down a slope. The man was rescued at about 5pm. Teh's daughter said her father was semi-conscious in the hospital.

Former KL Tower concessionaire loses injunction appeal
The injunction application had been filed by Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd and its subsidiary Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd, the former concessionaires of the KL Tower. PUTRAJAYA : The former operator of the Kuala Lumpur Tower has failed to obtain an injunction to stop the award of the KL Tower concession to LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd. A three-member bench of the Court of Appeal dismissed the application by Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd and its subsidiary Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd. Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah, who delivered the court's unanimous decision, said the applicants failed to meet the legal threshold for the grant of an ad interim injunction. There was no status quo to maintain as the fifth supplementary agreement on the concession had lapsed on March 31, he said. Sequerah ordered Hydroshoppe and Menara KL to pay costs totalling RM30,000. The companies had appealed against a High Court decision in April, dismissing the application for the ad interim injunction. Hydroshoppe and Menara KL had sued the government for breach of contract, claiming that the LSH group had induced a breach of contract with the government. They asked the court to declare the award of the KL Tower concession to LSH Service Master as void and unlawful. They also sought an estimated RM1 billion in damages, and for the concession to be transferred back to them. The High Court will hear the companies' applications for two other injunctions on June 9.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Moments after announcing his departure from Umno, Tengku Zafrul Aziz said he would be flying to Saudi Arabia to perform the haj pilgrimage. In a Facebook post tonight, Tengku Zafrul said he held a prayer gathering attended by friends and family yesterday ahead of his pilgrimage. He also wrote: 'I would like to take this opportunity to ask for forgiveness from everyone reading this message if I have ever spoken harshly or fallen short in any way throughout our acquaintance.' Tengku Zafrul had announced earlier this evening that he has submitted his resignation as an Umno member today and would be applying to join PKR, led by Anwar Ibrahim. Citing 'compatibility and suitability', Tengku Zafrul said he decided to leave Umno after seeking advice from friends within and outside the party, including party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He was previously an Umno Supreme Council member and also headed the Kota Raja Umno division. His announcement drew a sharp response from Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, who urged Tengku Zafrul to relinquish his Cabinet post as well. Tengku Zafrul is the minister for investment, trade and industry in Anwar's Cabinet to which he was appointed from the senate. His term as a senator ends in December.
