Renée Zellweger Joins ‘Only Murders in the Building' Cast for Season 5
Renée Zellweger is set to visit the Arconia and join the cast of Only Murders in the Building.
News of the actress' casting was announced Wednesday by the series' social media handles in which they jokingly copied the rollout of the casting announcements for Avengers: Doomsday and featured Zellweger's name on a director's chair.

Details of Zellweger's role have yet to be announced but the actress joins series stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. Christoph Waltz and Keegan-Michael Key were previously announced to also be joining season five.
The Emmy-winning series' fifth installment will have 10 episodes, as previous seasons have. The fifth season is currently in production.

In addition to Martin, Short and Gomez, the fourth season featured the show's starriest cast yet with Meryl Streep returning as Loretta Durkin, Jane Lynch as Sazz Pataki, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.
Season 5 comes amid the show's wins at the 2025 SAG Awards. The Hulu series won the award for best comedy series ensemble, while Short was named best actor in a comedy series for his role on the show.
Both Short and Martin were absent from the ceremony leaving Gomez to quip onstage that they weren't there because they didn't care. However, while on Amy Poehler's podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Short said he missed the ceremony after he came down with COVID from the SNL 50 anniversary special days prior.
'I never win! I wasn't even watching, I was watching The Brutalist,' Short said on the podcast. 'Then someone said turn it on and I was stunned. That's what Selena Gomez said, 'We always lose.''
'In this experience of Only Murders in the Building — we're starting our fifth season — absolutely never had a consideration. Not remotely,' the star added of the possibility of winning awards for the show. 'The publicist sends you things, 'SAG Predictions,' and it was always like, 'Well if it isn't Jeremy Allen White, I'll tell you it will be Jason Segel.' It was not even close.'
When Poehler asked Short how he thought he won, he joked, 'I guess I'm beloved. I've become this stupid icon.'

Patti LuPone is apologizing for the recent comments she made in a New Yorker profile about Audra McDonald and Kecia Lewis that's had the theater world buzzing. 'For as long as I have worked in the theatre, I have spoken my mind and never apologized. That is changing today. Last fall, while LuPone was starring in The Roommate, she complained about the musical next door, Hell's Kitchen, which Lewis was in, being 'too loud.' After that, Lewis took to Instagram to say that LuPone was 'bullying,' 'racially microaggressive' and 'rooted in privilege.' In the New Yorker interview, LuPone responded by saying, 'Here's the problem. She calls herself a veteran? Let's find out how many Broadway shows Kecia Lewis has done, because she doesn't know what the fuck she's talking about,' she said. 'Don't call yourself a vet, bitch.' LuPone also said McDonald was 'not a friend' and that they had a rift years ago. However, on Thursday, McDonald appeared on CBS Mornings to promote Gypsy and her 11th Tony nomination and said she was surprised by LuPone's comments. 'If there's a rift between us, I don't know what it is. That's something you'd have to ask Patti about,' she said. 'I haven't seen her in about 11 years because I've been busy with life and stuff.' iHeartRadio Music Festival 2025: Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, Mariah Carey to Perform
iHeartRadio Music Festival will return to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sept. 19 and 20 with performances from Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, Mariah Carey, Lil Wayne, Jelly Roll, and more. After announcing its full list of winners last month, the Peabody Awards celebrated those honorees in person Sunday night with a ceremony hosted by Roy Wood Jr. in Los Angeles. The comedian kicked things off inside the Beverly Wilshire by joking, 'Last year's host was Kumail Nanjiani, so that is back-to-back years with a minority host.
