NEW DELHI: The surge in repatriation or disinvestment by investors was driven by overseas players seeking to cash in on higher valuations in India. They exited through IPOs, stock market sales, and "private arrangements," with Singtel's share sale in Bharti Airtel, IndiGo co-founder Rakesh Gangwal's sale through block deals in IndiGo parent Interglobe, and Hyundai's dilution through the public issue in its Indian arm being the top contributors.
Official data accessed by TOI showed that during the last financial year, 95% of the disinvestment or repatriation was related to these three categories, with two-thirds of all divestments happening through the stock market route. Overall, 58% of the remittances were linked to stock market transactions, while another 28% were on account of private arrangements, including private placements and preferential allotments.
As Gangwal sold more shares in Interglobe and BAT announced a fresh sale in ITC, the trend has continued into the current fiscal year as well. The two transactions in as many days between them garnered a little under Rs 25,000 crore (around $2.9 billion).
Latest data released by RBI pegged disinvestment of shares in Indian entities during the last financial year at over $51 billion. Along with outward FDI of $29 billion, this resulted in net FDI inflows of just under $400 million, 96% lower than the previous year.
In its monthly Bulletin, RBI described it as "a sign of a mature market where foreign investors can enter and exit smoothly, reflecting positively on the Indian economy.
"
Govt sources, however, said that too much should not be read into the numbers as foreign players, particularly private equity investors, were exiting a part of their investment in domestic companies at a premium. Apart from the Hyundai parent, investors in Swiggy and rival Eternal (formerly Zomato) also decided to book profits on their investments in the two food delivery companies.
When it comes to outward FDI, the Mittals of Bharti Group acquired a stake in BT Group in the UK, apart from several other companies seeking to tap into opportunities overseas. "That Indian overseas direct investment increased nearly by $12.5 billion during FY25, even as uncertainty reigned in the world, warrants attention, especially given their cautious attitude towards domestic investment," the finance ministry's monthly economic report said.

IDA to sell flats, plots & shops to boost revenue, targets 261cr

Indore: Indore Development Authority (IDA) is set to generate substantial revenue by selling its vacant plots, flats, and shops, with a target of Rs 261 crore in the coming days. A decision to sell 600 flats, 40 shops, and 24 plots was made during an IDA board meeting, chaired by the Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh, Collector Asheesh Singh, IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma, and IDA CEO RP Ahirwar among other officials on Friday. The authority will soon issue tenders for these properties, aiming to meet the housing needs of the general public. The IDA has already prepared a comprehensive list of all properties. The board meeting also saw key approvals for infrastructure projects. An agency was finalised to conduct the feasibility survey and prepare tender documents for the 'elevated corridor' extending from Malwa Mill Square to Rasoma Square via Patnipura Square. Additionally, an agency was approved for the feasibility survey and tender proposals for flyovers at Rasoma Square and Ring Road's Robot Square. These approvals follow a previous board meeting where the decision to conduct feasibility studies at all three locations was made, and tenders were subsequently invited. The IDA board also decided to provide Rs 16.98 crore to the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). This amount will be used to treat sewage emanating from the sewerage treatment plant in Scheme No. 166. In another significant decision, an industrial plot in Scheme 78 Phase-2 was allotted to the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Furthermore, a plot on the Super Corridor was allocated to the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (Mandi). The board also sanctioned minimum tenders worth Rs 90 crore for various development works and essential facilities across different schemes. These include the construction of a bridge over the Kanh River on MR-12, the building of a 34 lakh-litre capacity water tank in Scheme 151 and 169B, and other approved works under various development plans.

UP to meet 1/3rd of Krishi Abhiyan national target

Lucknow: A day after CM Yogi Adityanath rolled out the centrally-driven Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, the Uttar Pradesh govt said that it would aim to reach out to at least 50 lakh farmers as part of the campaign. If done, UP would alone contribute to one third of the target set under the campaign nationally. The projection aligns with the UP's status of contributing 22% of the total food grains produced in the country, despite a limited agricultural land area (it is 11% of the national). Described as a "lab to land mission" by CM Yogi Adityanath, the campaign — spanning between May 29 and June 12 — seeks to modernise Indian agriculture through scientific outreach, sustainable practices and farmer empowerment. Under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, farmers across the state will be educated on the latest kharif crop technologies, natural farming practices, and benefits for soil, water and environment. The campaign is poised to cover 65,000 villages across 723 districts and is expected to engage directly with around 1.5 crore farmers across the country. A state govt spokesperson said the initiatives such as Kisan Kalyan Kendras, Kisan Pathshalas and Million Farmers School at the Nyaya Panchayat level, implemented during the rabi and kharif seasons project the UP govt's commitment towards agricultural growth and farmer welfare. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The official said the state govt would also rely on district-specific centres of excellence for targeted crops. The Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) established in every district play the most crucial role in accelerating this entire program. The total number of KVKs has already risen to 89 in the state. The spokesperson said the govt plans to upgrade these KVKs into centres of excellence. In the first phase, 18 KVKs were selected in Dec 2023, with a sanctioned project cost of Rs 26.36 crore. Work is underway to establish centres of excellence at the remaining KVKs. Each centre has been directed to focus on priority sectors that align with local agricultural traditions and climate zones. Given the govt's strong focus on extension services, it has undertaken this challenging campaign with confidence. Additionally, agricultural experts will provide guidance on the use of improved seeds for higher yields, seed treatment and purification, soil health improvement, mixed cropping techniques, drip and sprinkler irrigation, drone applications in agriculture, enhancing horticultural crop quality and productivity, and crop protection and safety measures. Furthermore, the campaign will promote enrollment and support for key government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, Farmer Registry and Fasal Bima Yojana.
