Increase in tree planting in Humber Forest project
Humber Forest, a project across Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire said the figure was an increase of 35% compared with the same period last year.
The council said projects that had benefited from funding include a new woodland in Holderness, a hedgerow and woodland in Crowle and the Oak Road Playing Fields in Hull.
Councillor Paul West said he was proud of the work, and encouraged other landowners to get involved with the project.
Humber Forest is one of 15 community forests across England and is part of the larger Northern Forest that stretches from Liverpool to the Yorkshire coast.
They work with farmers, landowners, businesses and communities, and provide grants to cover up to 100% of funding for planting and associated costs.
A new woodland in Holderness was planted by a local landowner in memory of his mum Sheila.
Sheila's Planting included 12,235 trees which the council said had improved the habitat for wildlife and was helping to combat climate change.
The authority said 700 trees had been planted by residents at Oak Road Playing Fields in Hull, an area prone to flooding.
It said the trees would help alleviate the flooding, create areas of shade in the summer and provide habitats for a wide range of species.
Humber Forest also funded more than 2km (1.24 miles) of mixed native hedgerow and more than half a hectare of woodland on a sheep farm in Crowle, North Lincolnshire.
The planting season in 2024-25 also included 35 miles (56km) of hedgerows, "the equivalent distance from Flamborough to Withernsea," the council said.
The authority said the trees could play a vital role in creating habitats for wildlife, improving community spaces, reducing soil erosion and flooding, and improving air quality.
West said: "We're proud to support communities to improve their local environments, including through tree plantings. We highly encourage more landowners to find out more and get involved with the Humber Forest project."

Number of households in homeless accommodation up by nearly 20%
The number of households living in temporary accommodation for the homeless in Reading is up by nearly 20 per cent. New statistics from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government have revealed how many households in Reading are living in temporary accommodation. Temporary accommodation in this context is provided by the local authority for a limited time for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. It is a short-term solution while permanent housing is sort and is itself classed as a form of homelessness. Newly published data for the first quarter of 2025 reveals that the number of households staying in temporary accommodation in Reading because they are homeless or at risk of homelessness has gone up by nearly 20 per cent. That means an additional 61 households have qualified for temporary accommodation already this year, representing an increase of 18 per cent compared to the 2024 figure. Of the 402 households, 299 are with children - a whopping 74 per cent. This again is an increase on last year, when 224 out of the 341 households were with children, or 66 per cent. The types of temporary accommodation households are placed in varies from hostels to shared houses, properties belonging to private landlords, or council-owned accommodation. Broadly matching the trends from last year, the most common type of temporary accommodation in use in Reading is local authority or housing association stock housing, which accounted for 230 households, or 57.2 per cent. This comes as the number of households in temporary accommodation across England has climbed to a new record high. The number in England this year is about 131,140, an increase on last year's figure of 117,350 and more than double what it was a decade ago in March 2015, when it was only 64,710 households. John Glenton, executive director at the charity Riverside, which provides accommodation for people affected by homelessness, said the numbers were 'greatly concerning'. He added: 'It is particularly disappointing to see the number of additional homeless children living in temporary accommodation continuing to increase so rapidly..."

State pension mistake means nearly 200,000 owed up to £31,000
State pensioners could be missing out on THOUSANDS when they retire. BBC and ITV star Martin Lewis has issued a warning over a State Pension error - with some owed THOUSANDS. The issue saw parents and carers who took time off work between 1978 and 2010 to look after children due £100,000 or more when they retire, known as Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP). He said: 'The Government's letter-writing campaign has been a dismal failure, and this was entirely predictable given its reliance on a complicated online claims process.' One woman emailed the team at Mr Lewis's Money Saving Expert to share that she received 15 years' worth of back pay from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), totalling a staggering £31,674. Parents delight as brand new early years centre finally opens its doors
Parents have expressed their delight in how play group sessions have improved the lives of their children with special needs and disabilities as the service is expanding. The Penhill Nursery at the Everleigh Centre has been turned into an early years centre by Swindon Borough Council – and in May it started running Play and Stay sessions for small groups of pre-school children who need additional help and support. She said: 'Tommy likes coming now he's familiar with it, as we're driving her he recognises it and starts waving his arms in excitement. 'He really likes the sensory and the light rooms – that helps him regulate his feelings much better and we're having a light room put in at home, because it works so well, "It's also good that Delilah can play here as well with him when he's happy and having his needs met.' Sitting at a table while her four-year-old son Freddy played with colours and shapes Celia Dearaujo, 42, from Rodbourne said: 'Freddy benefits from interacting with the other children and the other adults here. 'He gets to explore the world a bit more here, and then at home, he's able to explore a but more. He's always happy to come here and he likes the lights and sounds and textures he can work with and we are seeing benefits at home.' The centre is gradually expanding its services and later in the year the four play and stay sessions will grow to eight across the week.
