Shaikpet residents bristle with rage over corruption in GHMC

Hans India3 hours ago
Hyderabad: Over 5,000 residents of Surya Nagar Colony in Shaikpet, Jubilee Hills, have united to confront alleged corruption within GHMC Circle 18 by lodging a formal complaint with the Telangana Vigilance and Enforcement Department. They have accused officials of corrupt practices that have led to significant delays in public works, the extortion of bribes, and substandard infrastructure.
The Surya Nagar Welfare Association, a part of the Jubilee Hills Colonies Forum (which represents over 300 colonies), led by Asif Sohail Hussain, filed the complaint with the department and encouraged citizens to report corruption in GHMC and other government departments.
Asif Hussain stated, 'Over 5,000 residents of Surya Nagar Colony, Shaikpet, have united in outrage, demanding criminal prosecution and a high-level vigilance probe against the Assistant City Planner and Section Officer of the GHMC Circle 18 Town Planning Wing. This includes an investigation into their and their relatives' alleged benami assets.'
He added that the official complaint, submitted to AR Srinivas, Director of Vigilance & Enforcement (V&E), Government of Telangana, accuses the officials of ignoring and actively facilitating rampant, unauthorised high-rise constructions in blatant violation of GHMC norms. Residents claim that crores in bribes are fuelling these illegal approvals, with benami properties allegedly held in the names of relatives and proxies.
In the complaint, residents mentioned that in Surya Nagar Colony, a GHMC-approved, tax-paying residential layout, seven- to eight-storey buildings are being built on small plots without fire safety clearances, parking provisions, or mandated setbacks. The area's infrastructure is collapsing under the pressure, and legal residents are paying the price with choked sewage lines, water shortages, and blocked emergency access.

TGDTE issues stark warning to colleges withholding students' certificates

Hyderabad: The Telangana Department of Technical Education (TGDTE) has issued a directive to all technical and higher educational institutions, emphasizing that withholding original certificates is illegal and could lead to severe repercussions, including blacklisting of institutions. The directive follows a complaint from Arempala Keerthi, a EEE student at CVR College of Engineering in Hyderabad. Her original academic certificates were allegedly withheld by the college despite her successful completion of studies. The Department responded by instructing the Principal of CVR College to release all of Keerthi's original documents without delay. The department emphasized the importance of students accessing their credentials to pursue further education or job opportunities. The directions referred to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), clarifying its policy in a circular dated February 2021. The policy points out that all AICTE-approved institutions are barred from retaining students' original certificates post-verification, labeling such practices as 'illegal and unethical.' The AICTE warned that it would take 'stringent action' against any institution found violating this rule. Adding a letter dated August 2024 from the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) to all affiliated universities reiterates these concerns. The TGCHE had observed that some private colleges were refusing to return certificates, citing non-payment of tuition fees due to pending government fee reimbursement. The Council deemed this practice as unhealthy and in violation of the UGC (Grievance Redressal of Students) Regulations 2018, which clearly prohibit colleges from withholding or refusing to return any documents submitted for admission purposes. The TGCHE has instructed universities to ensure affiliated private colleges do not demand tuition fee payments from students eligible for fee reimbursement before releasing their original documents. Institutions that ignore these directives risk being blacklisted and may lose their eligibility for fee reimbursement and future affiliation, a measure designed to enforce compliance effectively.

Trump vs. Gayle King Erupts: 'Woke' CBS Ratings Spark Explosive TV Feud

Donald Trump is setting his sights on a new TV target — Gayle King. In a late-night Truth Social post, Trump declared 'Gayle King's career is over,' accusing the CBS Mornings host of lacking courage, talent, and ratings. The comment came just after a New York Post article claimed Gayle's future at CBS is 'murky,' citing low viewership and labeling the show as too 'woke.' Trump didn't stop there. He linked her situation to the cancellation of Stephen Colbert's show — which he also celebrated — and hinted the show's end helped secure a massive FCC-approved merger between Skydance and Paramount. He now claims Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel are next on his hit list. Watch.
