Man Utd title winner, 47, to join Mikel Arteta's Arsenal coaching staff in a surprise move to replace Carlos Cuesta

MIKEL ARTETA is appointing Manchester United title winner Gabriel Heinze to his Arsenal staff.
The former Argentina star, 47, will join the group after 29-year-old Carlos Cuesta left his role as assistant coach to become manager of Parma.
2
Heinze spent three years with the Red Devils after joining from PSG - where he played with a teenage Arteta.
The defender has been described by the Gunners boss as one of the "unbelievable players" he played with, and an "inspiration".
Arteta previously said: 'The other inspirations were (Mauricio) Pochettino and Heinze, those two were next to me all the time, behind me, and they were guiding me in everything I had to do in my professional life, how I had to understand the game and they were inspirational to me.'
Heinze will join the backroom staff alongside assistant Albert Stuivenberg, goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana, set-piece coach Nicolas Jover and first-team coach Miguel Molina.
Heinze moved to Old Trafford for £6.9million in 2004 and became a cult hero among fans - scoring on his debut against Bolton.
But a lengthy injury lay-off saw Sir Alex Ferguson sign Patrice Evra, who became first-choice left-back in the title-winning 2006-07 season.
He left Man Utd after 83 games under a cloud after trying to force a move to bitter rivals Liverpool before eventually being shipped to Real Madrid.
As well as winning the Premier League he won domestic titles in France, Spain and Argentina as well as Olympic gold.

He made 72 appearances for Argentina, including at two Fifa World Cups and the Copa America.
Heinze has had managerial spells at five clubs since 2015, leaving his most recent stint at Newell's Old Boys in his homeland in 2023.

BRITISH No.3 Sonay Kartal is lighting up Wimbledon 2025 - and is progressing through the competiton nicely. But it seems as if he relationship with bodybuilder Luke Ogbourn has hit the end of the road. 4 4 4 Sonay Kartal beat former French Open champ Jelena Ostapenko in round one of Wimbledon 2025. She then stormed into round three for the second year running after a dominant and devastating victory over Viktoriya Tomova on Court No 3. And Sonay beat French qualifier Diane Parry on Friday, July 4 by straight sets. Sonay has £152,000 in her back pocket but if she wins two sets, she will add an extra £68,000 to her bank balance. The British No.3 said: 'Obviously tennis is super expensive. 'When I was growing up, I kind of did quite a lot of tournaments on my own because I couldn't afford to pay a coach week-in, week-out. 'It helped me develop as a teenager, grow up super fast, made me much more mature. I held myself accountable to a lot of things. 'The LTA helped me massively. It came at exactly the right time. It was when I started to come on the scene and was putting together a few good wins consistently. 'They really helped to give me all the equipment and access to everything I needed to develop as well. 'I've shot up the rankings. My game style really rocketed. Wimbledon star Sonay Kartal playing for life-changing payday after struggling to afford a tennis coach 'My coaches back in the day, they would charge me I guess the lowest fee and would try to help me out as much as possible. 'I was out quite a lot of years injured as a teenager. 'I didn't pick up a racquet for a couple years. I was kind of a bit inconsistent as I was going through my teenage years.' Sonay was born in London, but grew up in Brighton with her family. Off the court, Sonay had been in a relationship with bodybuilder Luke Ogbourn. He even brought his beau a bouquet of flowers after she qualified for the first round of Wimbledon in 2024. But the pair have now sadly broken up. Who is Luke Ogbourn? Luke Ogbourn is a British bodybuilder and strongman. Luke had been a visible and vocal supporter of Sonay, particularly during her impressive Wimbledon run last year and her first WTA singles title win at the Jasmin Open, also in 2024. But he was absent from this year's competition and it has now surfaced that the pair are no longer together. Per his Instagram bio, Luke took home the silver medal at the United Kingdom's Strongest Man U23 competition in 2024, before going one better and securing gold at Iron Beasts 2024. 4 His profile regularly featured gym routines, rugby matches and highlights from his strongman competitions — but as of July 4, 2025, it seems to have been removed. The relationship between Sonay and Luke was made public since from November 2023, when their first photo together appeared on Ogbourn's Instagram. Their relationship drew more attention during Wimbledon 2024 — Luke supported Sonay online and in person, sharing affectionate messages and congratulating her after matches. Despite both being athletes, Sonay said that they did not train together, telling the Express in 2024 that they "don't gym together at all". She added: 'I don't lift cars and pull cars and things like that.

The England-born 32-year-old brought the curtain down on 11 years in Scottish rugby – nine seasons at Glasgow and two at Edinburgh – at the end of last season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Price, who has 68 Scotland caps to his name and toured with the British and Irish Lions in 2021, has now headed to the Top 14 to continue his career. The move to Montpellier means he will become a team-mate once more of his former Glasgow and Scotland colleague Stuart Hogg, who pleaded guilty in November to a charge of domestic abuse. Ali Price has joined Montpellier after leaving Edinburgh Rugby. | SNS Group Meanwhile, Pierre Schoeman has revealed the British and Irish Lions' props are gelling so well that they have taken to roaming their team hotels together like 'migrating bison'. The Lions have taken six of the front rows to Australia and while they are competing hard for the four available places in the Test series that begins in Brisbane on July 19, they have still formed a tight bond off the field. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'We actually have a prop group that none of our other team members are allowed on. They don't know about it, but our secret is out now,' Schoeman said. 'We are like bison, migrating together. We have a secret meeting every night. Finlay Bealham started it and now all the props have bought in. Props ask 'deep questions' 'We stick together and have a tea after every training session and we get to meet each other's families and ask deep questions. But it's just for props in whatever hotel we live in.' Within the prop contingent those that fill the number one jersey have gravitated towards each other, with Schoeman striking up a close relationship with fellow 'gladiators' Ellis Genge and Andrew Porter. 'Looseheads all around the world are very similar. They are quite weird and unique people. Something isn't right,' the South African-born Scotland prop said. 'We always say that playing rugby you must have a screw loose, but playing rugby as a loosehead prop…We like going to dark places – physically, mentally, spiritually. We are almost like a gladiator when all the gladiators come together. (Scrum coach) John Fogarty has the key for the cage to unlock the gladiators. We all associate with being loosehead props in the professional era with different backgrounds. 'It's just nice knowing each other and we are learning from each other as well. You have to get along. You have to make it work. At this moment it is like a small mini unit and the engine has to go. 'It is the healthiest competition I've seen in my career. You learn from each other and you really use your super strengths. If someone else is better, you learn from them. 'You can clearly see we are all driving towards the same collective. Whatever your job is on the sailing yard, you have to do that otherwise you won't get to the destination.'
