Meta, Shopify and PayPal: Saudi wealth fund sold its stakes in Q2

BANGALORE/DUBAI: Saudi Arabia's almost $1 trillion sovereign wealth fund sold its stakes in several US-listed companies - including Meta, Shopify and PayPal - in the second quarter, according to securities filings released on Thursday.
The Public Investment Fund also sold its stakes in Alibaba Group, Nu Holdings and FedEx, the 13F filings show, during a quarter in which US stock markets rebounded from an April drop tied to US tariff policies.
The filings showed that PIF no longer held any shares in Meta, Shopify, PayPal, Alibaba, Nu Holdings and FedEx. Its previous filing showed that, at the end of March, the fund had 667,996 class A shares in Meta, 1.25 million class A shares in Shopify, 1.76 million shares in PayPal, 6.83 million shares class A shares in Nu Holdings, 1.61 million in Alibaba sponsored ADS, and 498,164 common shares in FedEx.
PIF's total exposure to US equities, which include call options that give the state investor a right to buy an underlying asset at a specified price within a specific time period, was valued at $23.8 billion at the end of the second quarter, versus $25.5 billion at the end of the first quarter.
Tasked with spearheading Saudi Arabia's economic diversification under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 plan, PIF has moved well beyond its early holdings in Saudi public equities and infrastructure. In recent years, the fund took high-profile stakes in global brands, such as Uber and Lucid Motors, while also backing sports ventures including LIV Golf and English soccer club Newcastle United.
At home, it has poured billions into giga-projects such as NEOM, the futuristic city on the Red Sea, and sectors like tourism, logistics, and clean energy.

PSX hits record high on Fitch's positive outlook on banks

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) soared to a new all-time high on Monday, propelled by Fitch's positive outlook on Pakistan banks and Moody's upgrade of the country's rating to Caa1. Strong earnings, rupee stability and optimism about Pakistan-US trade and investment deals strengthened investor sentiment, driving the KSE-100 index up by 1,705 points to above 148,000, stated analysts. Ahsan Mehanti of Arif Habib Corp commented that stocks closed at a new all-time high as Fitch Ratings provided investors with a brighter outlook on Pakistan banks amid Moody's rating upgrade to Caa1. A strong earnings outlook, rupee stability, speculation about Pakistan-US trade and investment deals and the government seeking further US export tariff incentives led the PSX to a record close, he said. At the end of trading, the benchmark KSE-100 index recorded an increase of 1,704.79 points, or 1.16%, and settled at 148,196.42. Detailed proposals are expected to be announced next week, sustaining investor optimism, Topline said. Heavyweights such as Lucky Cement, Meezan Bank, Bank AL Habib and Pakistan Petroleum contributed a combined 756 points to the index's upward momentum, it added. Overall trading volumes increased to 610.3 million shares compared with Friday's tally of 473.6 million. Traded value rose to Rs39.2 billion as compared to Rs32.9 billion in the previous session. India bonds tumble on tax-cut jitters, erase S&P upgrade gains

MUMBAI: Indian government bonds tumbled on Monday, wiping out gains from S&P's rating upgrade last week, as proposed tax cuts reignited fiscal concerns and stoked fears of heavier debt supply. The benchmark 10-year bond yield ended at 6.4968%, up nearly 10 basis points from Thursday's close of 6.4003%. Bond yields move inversely to prices. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced sweeping changes to the goods and services tax (GST) regime which will make daily essentials and electronics cheaper from October. The tax cut plan, however, entails a fiscal cost given GST is a major revenue generator. IDFC First Bank says the cuts will cost states and the federal government $20 billion annually. 'People are not comfortable buying bonds amid so much uncertainty,' said Debendra Kumar Dash, senior vice president of treasury at AU Small Finance Bank, 'There is growing fiscal concern, constant VRRR auctions by the central bank, and no clarity on a potential US-India trade deal.' While bond market participants rapidly sold positions, the government is optimistic that the country's fiscal deficit target can still be achieved. Meanwhile, Economists at UBS Securities see lower GST rates having a disinflationary effect, creating room for more central bank interest rate cuts. 'With underlying inflationary pressures remaining benign…we see space for the terminal repo rate to fall to the 5.0-5.25% range,' Tanvee Gupta Jain, Chief India Economist at UBS wrote in a note. Rates India's overnight index swap rates rose on Monday as mounting fears of fiscal pressure and heavier government bond supply prompted traders to pay across the curve. The one-year OIS rate was up 3 bps at 5.54% and the two-year OIS rate INR2YMIBROIS=CC was up 4 bps at 5.5%. The liquid five-year OIS rate INR5YMIBROIS=CC rose 6 bps to 5.7275%.

European shares flat as investors await Ukraine talks

European shares were little changed in early trade on Monday, with investors on the watch for Ukraine and European leaders' meeting with US President Donald Trump, following a Russia-US summit that ended without an immediate agreement. The pan-European STOXX 600 index were flat, as of 0704 GMT, after logging a second straight weekly gain on Friday. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy will meet Trump along with other European leaders in a bid to draw out a peace deal that will not favour Moscow. Trump met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday and agreed that a peace deal should be worked upon without a ceasefire. Novo Nordisk added 4.1% after the drugmaker' s weight-loss drug Wegovy received an accelerated approval by the US Food and Drug Administration to treat a serious liver condition. Vestas shares jumped 9.7% and ranked among the top gainer on the STOXX 600 after IRS safe harbor guidelines. Commerzbank fell 3.7%, after Deutsche Bank cut the stock's rating to 'Hold' from 'Buy'.
