Malaysia, Russia to deepen nuclear energy ties

Fadillah, also Energy Transition Minister, noted Russia's experience and advanced technology could support Malaysia's energy goals under the National Energy Transition Roadmap. During his four-day visit, Fadillah met Russian Deputy PM Alexey Overchuk and Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev, discussing nuclear tech transfer, legal frameworks, training, and power grid upgrades. He said Cabinet had agreed in principle to consider nuclear power in Malaysia's future energy mix to reduce reliance on coal and gas. However, Fadillah stressed that public support and thorough studies are essential before moving forward. Advice to the Forces not to share sensitive content on social media

TAWAU: Members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) have been reminded to refrain from uploading sensitive content on social media, particularly related to security assets, to prevent hostile parties from identifying the nation's defence capabilities. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he was confident that armed forces commanders would issue firm instructions to their personnel to use social media responsibly and avoid compromising national security. 'Sometimes in their eagerness to showcase training or equipment, personnel may unintentionally reveal where such assets are stored. 'This could expose our strengths to those with ill intent,' he told reporters after officiating the Tawau 2025 Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Carnival at the Tawau Sports Complex. Mohamed Khaled was responding to a reminder issued Saturday by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who cautioned military personnel against sharing everything on social media, particularly sensitive information related to troop movements and operations. Meanwhile, he said the Defence Ministry continues to acquire strategic assets annually to strengthen national security. These are not off-the-shelf purchases, he stressed, but custom orders tailored to the MAF's operational needs across land, air and sea to ensure suitability and effective deployment. 'We have already procured 18 FA-50 aircraft from South Korea, three Littoral Mission Ships and are continuing construction of the Littoral Combat Ships, alongside radar purchases to bolster national defence,' he said. Mohamed Khaled added that the ministry is also in the process of replacing the static Tun Sharifah Rodziah forward operating base with a more modern and mobile base better suited to current operational demands, expected to be completed next year. Commenting on ongoing global conflicts, including in Ukraine, Gaza, Iran-Israel, and India-Pakistan, he said these developments highlight the importance of Malaysia prioritising the acquisition of technology-driven defence assets. 'We are also aware of ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, which remain a serious concern. Sabah PKR ‘ready for any possibility'

'We thought that was it… but when this latest incident happened, we were quite shocked. We are now analysing its impact. 'I believe this will, to some extent, change the political landscape in the state,' he said, after chairing the party's state leadership council (Majlis Pimpinan Negeri) meeting Sunday. A news portal reported that a new video — allegedly involving leaders from GRS component parties Star and PBS — has been recorded but not yet made public. The footage is said to show discussions on political support and payments amounting to several million ringgit. Mustapha said party machinery across Sabah has been told to stay alert and prepare for any possibility. 'We need to be ready for any possibility that may happen because of this latest video incident,' he said. On possible cooperation with other parties, he said formal talks with GRS have not started, but PKR is open to it. 'GRS also wants to work with Pakatan Harapan and we welcome that. I think it's time for us to start discussions — maybe over coffee first,' he said. Meanwhile, negotiations with Barisan Nasional (BN) are almost complete. 'We've met with BN many times already and there's only about 5pc left to resolve,' he said. He also said culaan — ground-level voter profiling — is being carried out to understand the level of support in different areas. 'Through these culaan activities, at the very least, we'll know the level of voter support… and that will become our basis when negotiating with any party that wants to work with us.' During the meeting, Sabah PKR also announced its new state leadership line-up. Mustapha remains as chairman, with Datuk Peto Galim as deputy and state election director. Former Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew has been appointed party adviser, alongside Abdul Rahman Yakub. Vice-chairmen are Datuk Sangkar Rasam, Azmi Datu Tambuyung and Mohd Amin Mem. Datin Rupinah Pangeran and Zaidi Jatil continue as the heads of the women and youth wings respectively. Other appointments include Abdul Razak Jamil as secretary and co-election director, Stefly Said as treasurer, Ahmad Farid Sainuri as information chief, Mohd Guntur Sangkar as communications director, Grace Lee as organising secretary, and Ag. Husaini Ag. Two Sabah YBs among trio to be charged today

Kota Kinabalu: Two state assemblymen and a businessman arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under Ops Adun, are reportedly scheduled to be charged today (Monday). In a press invite mailed to the media, the MACC said the trio are expected to be charged at the Special Corruption Court here at about 9am. It is understood that they will face a total of four charges under the MACC Act 2009. Two of the charges will be brought under Section 16(b)(A) of the Act for offering bribes, while the other two will be under Section 16(a)(A) for accepting bribes. So far, 15 politicians have been implicated in corrupt activities between 2023 and 2024, in exchange for assistance in processing mineral exploration licence applications. Earlier this month, MACC said it would charge two Sabah assemblymen and a civilian in court this month over a corruption scandal involving the mining licences.
