Markram won the men's award ahead of team-mate Kagiso Rabada and Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka for his for Player of the Match effort in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia at Lord's.
The 30-year-old opener struck a solid 136 off 207 balls and featured in a 147-run third-wicket stand with captain Temba Bavuma in a successful chase of 282. The five-wicket victory helped South Africa win an ICC Title for the first time since the Champions Trophy in 1998. Markram also picked up a wicket each in the two innings.
Matthews, who has previously won the awards in November 2021, October 2023, and April 2024, edged South Africa's Tazmin Brits and compatriot Afy Fletcher to become only the second player to win the award four times after Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner.
The West Indies skipper scored 104 runs in the three ODIs against South Africa, which included a half-century in the third match. She also grabbed four wickets in the series. Her fine run continued in the subsequent 2-1 T20I series win. She was named Player of the Series for her two fifties in an aggregate of 147 runs and two wickets. (ANI)

'King Charles Inquired About Akash Deep's Sister': Rajeev Shukla Reflects On Historic Meeting
Last Updated: BCCI VP Rajeev Shukla praised King Charles III for his heartfelt interaction with Indian cricket teams, noting his detailed knowledge of players' personal lives. Vice President of BCCI, Rajeev Shukla, expressed his appreciation for the meaningful and heartfelt interaction between King Charles III and the Indian men's and women's cricket teams, noting that the monarch had done his 'homework" ahead of the meeting, right down to asking about Akash Deep's sister's battle with cancer. On Tuesday, both Indian squads—led by captains Shubman Gill and Harmanpreet Kaur—were hosted by King Charles III at St. James's Palace in London. The teams, along with their coaches and support staff, were warmly received and engaged in an insightful conversation with the British monarch. Speaking to ANI, Shukla praised the King's thoughtful approach and deep interest in the players' personal journeys. 'It was a historic occasion. Both our men's and women's teams were invited by King Charles and met him at the Palace. The players were very happy because he asked about personal details of each one of them," Shukla said. 'He even inquired about Akash Deep's sister's illness. He had clearly done his research." Shukla also recounted a surprising moment when King Charles asked about Arun Jaitley, a close associate of Shukla and a former BCCI figure. 'He asked Saikia ji [BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia] and me whether Arun Jaitley was my friend. When I told him he had passed away, the King expressed his condolences and asked me to convey them to his family," Shukla added. Shukla said the team was struck by the King's modest and approachable demeanor. 'He had so many details memorized. He truly came across as a gentleman—it didn't feel like we were speaking to the King of England. There was a great deal of humility in him, and the team was very happy to meet him." Akash Deep's Emotional Dedication Akash Deep, who has emerged as a standout performer in the ongoing Test series, earned praise for his match-winning 10-wicket haul in the second Test at Edgbaston. His efforts included a stunning 6/99 in the second innings, bowling out England for 271 as they chased an unlikely target of 608. After the match, the 28-year-old pacer dedicated his performance to his sister, who has been battling cancer for the past two months. 'Every time I had the ball in my hand, her thoughts would cross my mind," Akash told Cheteshwar Pujara during a post-match chat on Jio Hotstar. 'I haven't spoken about this before, but two months ago, my sister was diagnosed with cancer. This performance is for her—I hope it brings some happiness back. I want to tell her, 'Sis, we are all with you.'" India narrowly lost the third Test by 22 runs, a heartbreaking result in an otherwise competitive series. The team will look to bounce back in the fourth Test, which begins on July 23. About the Author Sports Desk Get latest Cricket news, live score and match results on News18. What did King Charles III ask Indian skipper Shubman Gill after 3rd Test?
King Charles III described Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj's dismissal in the Lord's Test as 'unfortunate' after thoughtfully asking Shubman Gill about the moment during a reception at Clarence House, where he welcomed both India's men's and women's cricket teams on Tuesday. The 76-year-old monarch engaged in a friendly cricketing discussion with the Indian squad, a meeting Gill later described as 'amazing.' Joining the teams were Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswami, Deputy High Commissioner Sujit Ghosh, BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla, and Secretary Devajit Saikia. What did King Charles III ask Shubman Gill after Lord's Test? #WATCH | London, UK | On meeting King Charles III, Team India skipper Shubman Gill says, "It was amazing to meet King Charles III and he was very kind and generous to call us. He was very kind and generous, and we had some excellent conversations.' Recalling the dramatic finish in the third Test, where Siraj was bowled as the ball sat defensively off his bat, Gill added: 'The King noted how unlucky our last batters were, with the ball ending up on the stumps. He asked us, 'How did you feel after that?' We told him it was an unfortunate match but that we're hopeful for better luck in the upcoming games.' Gill also praised the unwavering support from the Indian community in the UK: 'We're fortunate to receive strong backing wherever we play. At first, the crowd at Lord's seemed more England-leaning, but over the last few days, the support for us was overwhelming.' He lauded the quality of Test cricket on display, saying: 'Both teams showed passion and pride, giving everything mentally and physically. When a five-day Test ends with such a narrow margin, cricket wins.' Harmanpreet Kaur on meeting the King On her own exceptional experience, Indian women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, 'Meeting the King was a wonderful experience. This was our first time meeting him, he was very friendly and asked about our travel.' Women's head coach Amol Muzumdar added, 'It was a humbling moment at the Royal House. We traveled all the way from Southampton, and it was definitely worth it.' The event was hosted by the British Asian Trust, founded by Charles when he was Prince of Wales to address poverty and inequality in South Asia. Hitan Mehta, Executive Director, remarked on the trust's growth: 'It began with a cricket match between India and Pakistan in 2007 organized by His Majesty, and now reaches 13 million people across the region.' Following the visit, the men's team departed for Manchester ahead of the fourth Test, while the women's squad returned to Southampton to prepare for their ODI clash with England, scheduled after their narrow 3-2 T20I series win.
