Moment 'corrupt' prison officer tells inmate how to get away with using drugs

Prisoners will go to extreme lengths to get their hands on certain items while behind bars, but a new documantary has lifted the lid on how 'corrupt' prison officers are partly to blame.
Prison officers have been accused of corruption after shocking footage showed them turning a blind eye to drug use behind bars in a new TV documentary.
UK Prisons Exposed: Sex, Drugs and Corruption, which is available to stream on Channel 4, follows ex-inmate David Navarro inside UK prisons where he delves deeper into bribery behind bars and shared how inmates get their hands on booze and drugs — and even how they have sex with guards.
In the documentary David, who has spent a decade in and out of custody, speaks to both inmates and guards to get both perspectives. During exclusive interviews he uncovers allegations of prison officer corruption, sex and drugs, with shocking videos filmed by prisoners.
In one video, taken on a phone which a prisoner had smuggled into his cell, an officer confronted a prisoner as he stands outside their door - confronted with the stench of marijuana. And when the convict pushes back - asking the officer openly what his room smells like - he is met with an extraordinary response as he is told to open his window so it isn't as obvious.
In the shocking footage the officer says: "What the f*** is in that? I don't wanna know." The prisoner responds: "Why, what does it smell like?", to which he replies: "F***ing weed." When the inmate says: "Weed? It smells like weed?" he says: "Yeah, hence why I told you, open your f***ing window."
In a brazen show of shamelessness, the prisoner then asks "What's that on the table?" The officer says: "Well, there you go." Ex-prisoner David Navarro, who presents the show, said that the footage 'suggests that prison staff at every level could be part of the problem', reports MailOnline.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: "While the vast majority of most prison staff are honest, we are catching more of the small minority who break the rules through our Counter-Corruption Unit and stronger vetting. Where officers fall below our high standards, we do not hesitate to take robust action."
The documentary also features shocking footage which is secretly filmed by inmates in their cells showing stashes of weed along with mobile phones, bottles of Ciroc vodka, Courvoisier brandy, Wray & Nephew rum and boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, plus KFC, Nando's, McDonald's and Chinese takeaways boxes.

She wept in the dock last July as she was sentenced to nine months in prison suspended for 18 months She was also ordered to take part in 20 days rehabilitation activity. And now she has opened up about the affair which she claims was down to the stress of her job, while she still denies that the two had sex together in prison. "He approached me with getting this private visit for his mum. We had a few conversations," she told the Channel 4 documentary UK Prisons - Sex, Drugs & Corruption: UNTOLD. She blames Poole for not 'flushing away' her intimate photos. "There was a little bit of banter, probably a few inappropriate comments to one another,' she continued. "As soon as I had done it and I had given it to him, I kind of said to him, look, you need to get rid of it. Flush it away. I'll be honest I thought he had. I knew I'd done wrong, obviously I shouldn't have done it, and I hold my hands up." During her court sentencing, Judge David Herbet KC said: "They found a sexually explicit letter and some intimate images of yourself. CCTV footage shows the two of you together and you were in a room privately, together. Some intimacy must have taken place. She should have known what the boundaries were. It shouldn't take training to know she shouldn't be doing that." CCTV had caught the pair sneaking into a prison storeroom for an hour of "intimacy", Northampton Crown Court heard. Stanton was suspended after their relationship was discovered in July 2022, while Poole was moved to another prison. She continued to visit her inmate lover and they went on to have a baby together, but have since split up. Stanton says the child was conceived after Poole left the prison. He moved into her parents' home after he was freed and now she has told how the relationship turned nasty. She claimed: "There had been no store room or whatever they called it. My daughter was definitely not conceived in 2022. It wasn't until the end of June 2023 that I fell pregnant. A few months later I saw a different side to him. He assaulted me. He was recalled for breaching probation. That was my saving grace. But I've now got a baby growing inside me with someone that I never ever want to see again in my life." Stanton had been working as a trainee G4S security first line manager at HMP Five Wells in 2022 when she met Poole. He had been jailed for 10-and-a-half years in 2018 for armed robbery. Lee Egan, defending, said Stanton had not abused her position to smuggle in contraband items or allowed herself to be "exploited". He added she was an "inexperienced" officer who had been chosen for a training course that would have seen her in charge of a whole landing of men at the super-prison. Stanton, who wore no make-up, jeans and a black top, covered her head with a tote bag as she left court with a friend.

A British former cabin crew member has been seen smiling and talking to guards in Sri Lanka after a court appearance over drug charges. Despite the gravity of the charges, Charlotte Lee, from Couldson, south London, seemed to be in high spirits as she walked down the stairs of the court. Miss Lee, 21, who worked for TUI, was arrested in an airport in the country after £1.15million worth of cannabis was allegedly found in her luggage last month. She had flown in from Thailand on an a Sri Lankan Airlines flight before she was detained by police. The alleged discovery of Kush, a strain of cannabis is the is the biggest amount of the drug since Bandaranaike Airport, in Colombo, opened its international hub. It has been reported that the drugs, which weighed 46kg and worth 460million Sri Lankan rupees, were 'tightly' packed in a luggage and meant for 'high-end local buyers'. In pictures, custom officers were seen posing behind the several bags of the drugs they say Miss Lee flown in with. She is being detained in a prison north of Colombo and could face up to 25 years in prison if found guilty. Last month, her legal representatives told the BBC that she was in contact with her family and was getting daily visits from lawyers to help with her mental wellbeing. Miss Lee has denied any knowledge of the drugs. Speaking to Mail Online after her arrest, she said: 'I had never seen them [the drugs] before. I didn't expect it all when they pulled me over at the airport. 'I thought it was going to be filled with all my stuff.' She also claimed that the drugs may have been planted and said she knew 'who did it.' According to her, she had packed her luggage before heading out for the night and did not check it again before setting off for the airport. Lash technician, Miss Lee, who previously worked for TUI as a cabin crew member, has allegedly been warned that she may not get sentenced for another year, as she awaits her fate. 'I am sleeping on a concrete floor - literally. All I have is my jumper as a pillow. 'There is a ceiling fan but it doesn't really work and there's a TV but that also barely works. I only have this one pair of clothes, nothing else to change into and I'm not being allowed my medication for ADHD. 'The only thing they give are sleeping tablets that properly knock you out. 'The shower is not really a shower, it's just a bucket that you pour over yourself but they don't give you anything for that. 'They put you in an alleyway with a bunch of other women, that's it.' Her arrest has been noted for bearing similarities to Bella May Culley, 18, who was also intercepted by police in Georgia for allegedly having a luggage full of cannabis. If convicted, Miss Lee could be sent to the infamous Weilikada Prison, where 650 convicts are packed in a ward meant for just 150 women. In 2012, 27 people died after violent clashes between prisoners and guards. Sri Lanka is known for having one of the toughest drug laws in the world. Capital punishment is a legal penalty for those found guilty of drug crimes, although no one has been executed since 1976.
