Religious conversions are a ‘conspiracy' to undermine nation's identity: Yogi

Time of India3 days ago
Lucknow: Terming illegal religious conversions a 'calculated conspiracy' to undermine the nation's identity and social fabric, CM
Yogi Adityanath
on Saturday said his govt will take firm action to curb the menace.
"Some forces are deliberately trying to alter the fundamental character of the country through unlawful conversions. This is an attack on social cohesion and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances," said Yogi while addressing a gathering after flagging off Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra from his Lucknow residence. The yatra is dedicated to the 350th Shaheedi Varsh of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
Mentioning the recent Balrampur case, where a large-scale illegal conversion racket backed by foreign funding was unearthed, he said that over Rs 100 crore was transacted across 40 accounts, with pre-determined "rates" for conversion.
He termed this a grave threat to both economic and social security.
CM Yogi stressed that marginalised communities, particularly Scheduled Castes, were being lured or coerced into changing their religion. He emphasised that such acts go against the spirit of the Constitution and the principle of social equality.
The CM welcomed and honoured the Sandesh Yatra by showering flower petals. The Yatra, which started from Lucknow, will pass through Kanpur, Etawah and Agra before culminating at Chandni Chowk and the historic Sisganj Gurdwara in Delhi—the site of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom.

A commemorative memento was also presented to the CM to mark the occasion.
Yogi said the 350-year-old legacy of martyrdom is being revived through this yatra, serving as a powerful reminder of the oppressive era under Aurangzeb's rule. He noted that the Mughal ruler sought to suppress Sanatan Dharma and impose Islamic dominance. "In the face of tyranny, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji chose martyrdom over compromise, standing firm on the path of righteousness," he said.
He said the martyrdom of Tegh Bahadur continues to inspire future generations with its message of unwavering faith and courage. "The entire yatra is rooted in the tradition of sacrifice and resilience. As we commemorate Shaheedi Diwas, we are reminded of the immense struggles and sacrifices that paved the way for India to emerge as a free and strong nation," he added.
Yogi stressed the need to preserve the legacy of sacrifice set by Sikh Gurus and to resist attempts to divide Hindus and Sikhs.
"Such conspiracies have been attempted before and will continue to surface, but we must remain vigilant and united," he said. He added that the Shaheedi Diwas inspires people to carry forward the Gurus' legacy and adapt it to modern-day strategies to ensure no community or individual is ever forced to abandon their culture or religion.
Referring to national celebrations such as the 550th Prakash Parv and the Veer Bal Diwas, the CM acknowledged the central govt's efforts to elevate these observances to national prominence. He also lauded PM Narendra Modi for officially declaring Dec 26 as Veer Bal Diwas, in honour of the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas (the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh).

Rahul Gandhi gets bail in case over allegedly defamatory remarks about Army

A court in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Tuesday granted bail to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a case pertaining to his allegedly defamatory remarks about the Army during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022, Bar and Bench reported. Gandhi appeared in front of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alok Verma after the Allahabad High Court dismissed his challenge in May against the summons issued in the case. The case pertains to comments made by Gandhi on December 16, 2022, about a clash between the Indian and Chinese armies along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang. The two sides had confronted each other with melee weapons on December 9, 2022, leading to injuries on both sides. Gandhi was granted bail by Verma on the condition that he furnish a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with two sureties of the same amount. The case will be heard again on August 13. The remarks made by the leader of Opposition about the violence were made during the Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra, a march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir against the allegedly divisive policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. A former director of the Border Roads Organisation, Uday Shankar Srivastava, filed a defamation complaint against Gandhi. His lawyer claimed that the Congress leader's statements were derogatory and defamed the Indian Army.

Kerala University registrar denies discrepancies in his appointment

1 2 3 4 T'puram: Kerala university registrar K S Anil Kumar has denied the allegations that his selection and appointment were against university laws and added that he was haunted by certain forces. The Save University Campaign Committee, which petitioned the state governor demanding Kumar's expulsion from the post, had raised the same demand unsuccessfully several times in the past. The university's acting vice-chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal had wondered how the syndicate could revoke Kumar's suspension. Kumar, who now acts as the state govt's face in Kerala university, said the conditions set by the university laws for the appointment of a registrar on deputation were not applicable to full-term and regular appointments, as in his case. "The registrar appointment is in accordance with Statute 12(1) of the Kerala University First Statute, 1977. A selection committee was formed on Jan 11, 2021, for the direct appointment of the registrar and a notification was issued on Jan 19. The notification stated that appointment was direct and the term was four years. An interview was conducted on Feb 22, 2021 and a rank list was prepared based on merit," Kumar said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Since the appointee is a an aided college teacher, a govt NOC was required and the govt considered this four-year appointment as a deputation to adjust service and pay conditions. On the expiry of his term early this year, the govt reappointed him for another full term.
