NBC News21-02-2025
Dyson is an expert-approved brand for all of our spring cleaning essentials, including vacuums, including handheld, cordless and upright vacuums. It's also a favorite brand among our NBC Select editors: I swear by my Dyson V11, which picks up every ounce of pet hair and debris without taking up much space in my tiny apartment. NBC Select editorial director Lauren Swanson also loves the versatility of the recently-launched Dyson Car+Boat handheld vacuum. However, they are a big investment, which means you'll want to take advantage of sales as they pop up. Right now, the Dyson Digital Slim Cordless Vacuum is 50% off at Walmart.
What is the Dyson Digital Slim Cordless Vacuum?
Dyson Digital Slim Cordless Vacuum
4.7-star average rating from 20 reviews at Walmart
Dyson's cordless vacuums are a favorite among the cleaning experts I spoke to for our vacuums buying guide. At just 4.4 pounds, the Digital Slim Cordless Vacuum is one of the lightest Dyson has to offer (including several of its handheld options). Its LCD screen shows you the remaining run time, maintenance alerts and the cleaning mode you're in. You can swap between auto, eco for longer cleans and boost for intensive vacuuming. The battery also lasts up to 40 minutes before you'll need to charge it.
The Slim Digital comes with three cleaning accessories: a motorized cleaner head that cleans all floor types, a combination tool (which is best for cleaning upholstery) and a crevice tool to clean hard-to-reach spots. Plus, it easily converts into a handheld vacuum to make cleaning smaller and compact areas, like your stairs, couch and car, much more comfortable.
The vacuum has whole machine filtration, meaning it captures dust, pet dander and small particles in a fully sealed system to clean your air, according to the brand. It also comes with a mountable charger to help you create a docking station, and the bin has a simple ejection button so you never have to touch the dirt and debris you clean up.

Amazon undercuts Shark on 'top rated' vacuum cleaner that 'makes cleaning easy'

Amazon undercuts Shark on 'top rated' vacuum cleaner that 'makes cleaning easy' Amazon has highlighted the Shark Stick Vacuum Cleaner as 'number one top-rated' and shoppers say it 'outdoes' their Dyson Amazon is offering this Shark vacuum for £25 less than buying direct. Amazon has beaten Shark with a price cut on a 'top rated' vacuum cleaner that's said to 'make cleaning easy'. The Shark Corded Stick Vacuum Cleaner with Anti Hair Wrap has been reduced from £199.99 to £175. This beats Shark's own £199.99 price tag for the 'Amazon's Choice' vacuum that's highlighted as 'number one top-rated'. However, many shoppers have been snapping up a rival deal on the Shark Corded Upright Vacuum Cleaner that's dropped from £229.99 to £139 and is currently the best-selling model on the site. But for those sticking with the Corded Stick model, it boasts Shark's 'DuoClean' floorhead, which enables it to glide from carpet to hard floors, with two motorised brush-rolls in a single floorhead. It also features Shark's signature anti-hair wrap technology, which removes long, short and pet hair from the vacuum cleaner's brush while it cleans. The vacuum offers easy cleaning beneath furniture thanks to its 'Flexology' wand, which bends to reach low areas that are illuminated by LED headlights in the floorhead. Shark has designed this vacuum cleaner for homes with pets and also includes an Anti Hair Wrap Pet Tool with the device, ideal for removing embedded hair from rugs, stairs, sofas and curtains while in handheld mode. The Shark Corded Stick Vacuum has a 10m power cord for easy cleaning throughout the house, but those preferring a cordless model may want to consider the Hoover HF4 Hydro Pet Cordless Vacuum Cleaner (£219), which serves as both a vacuum cleaner and mop. But the Shark Corded Stick Vacuum Cleaner with Anti Hair Wrap has achieved a 4.5-star rating after almost 7,500 reviews. Shark Corded Stick Vacuum Cleaner £199.99 £175 Amazon Get the deal here Product Description Amazon has undercut Shark on the Corded Stick Vacuum Cleaner with Anti Hair Wrap. One satisfied shopper said: 'Great buy, makes cleaning easy. It is amazing, very easy to put together and the light helps in dark corners. My carpet looks new again now after a few minutes. The head swivels nicely, it's not heavy and switching to hard floor and carpet is just a press of a button. The lead is nice and long but can be wound up around the side if need be.' Another said: 'Lightweight but powerful. This really outdoes my Dyson. Love the powered brush head. It makes vacuuming a breeze and so easy to use. With a dog I have no problem with bunged up brushes, the anti-wrap makes light work of that. Extremely long power cord and it's so light too.' 'It makes vacuuming a breeze and is so easy to use'. Article continues below One user noted a downside, saying: 'Very good but it doesn't stand up on its own, you have to lean it against something or it falls on the floor.' While this five-star review of the Shark Corded Stick Vacuum Cleaner with Anti Hair Wrap reads: 'Brilliant buy. After my Dyson packed up I thought I would never find a vacuum as good but this is even better. Compact, lightweight, easy to use, good suction and easily attachable accessories. Yes it is corded and yes it is really only suitable for small properties but at this price I have got one on each floor of my house.'

Walmart and Kroger spark fury among fans who vow to boycott over game-changing turning point in pricing

The rise of electronic shelf labels — tiny digital price tags that can change in real time — is triggering a backlash from US shoppers who fear sneaky price hikes and vanishing deals. Walmart, Kroger, Kohl's, Whole Foods and Lidl have all begun rolling out the tags, which were once mostly used in Europe. The technology is designed to save staff time, reduce paper waste, and allow for easier inventory updates. But customers aren't convinced. 'Don't buy anything with a digital price tag on it - we can stop this nonsense real soon. Start shopping local in any way possible,' an X user wrote. Retailers insist they're not using the tags for dynamic pricing — a strategy where prices rise and fall based on demand, time of day, or location. But shoppers remain skeptical, especially as inflation and tariffs continue to drive costs higher. Lidl plans to add the tech to all 190 of its US stores by the end of summer. Walmart is pushing to have them in 2,300 locations by next year. In Walmart's case, It can update — in minutes — the prices on the 120,000 items each store stocks. Weekly updates to paper shelf labels typically took a store worker about two days. Retail experts point out that such digital labels — and the speed that prices can be altered — could usher in an era of dynamic pricing. Uber is famous for this. In the world of retail, Amazon already use such models — with prices on some Amazon items changing dozens of times a day based on demand and competitor pricing. Neil Saunders, retail expert at Global Data, said retailers will need to tread carefully to allay shoppers' fears of dynamic pricing. 'Retailers would have to be very careful not to adjust pricing too much otherwise it could undermine their price competitiveness and reduce consumer trust in them,' Saunders told Daily Mail. Whole Foods and Kroger told the Daily Mail that their electronic shelf labels are not being used for dynamic pricing. Walmart declined to comment on whether it plans to use the tags that way. The Daily Mail has also reached out to Kohl's and Lidl for comment, but neither has replied. Announcing its roll out in June, Walmart said the new technology will give customers 'an even better shopping experience.' Meanwhile, a Kroger spokesperson said: 'They are a great way to take manual shelf tagging work off our associates' roles so they can have more time to work with our customers directly—and it's a huge reduction in the paper waste generated by tags.' Shoppers believe the idea of electronic price tag usage is 'crazy' Still, for shoppers already reeling from rising costs, any whiff of dynamic pricing hits a nerve. Recent tariff hikes have sparked consumer outrage — especially after Walmart employees began flagging products with price jumps as high as 80 percent on Reddit. In fact, other Walmart staff complained they were being hit with a flood of instore price rises. 'Lately my section has been getting 5,000 to 9,000 a week,' a Reddit user wrote, adding it was a 40 to 50 percent increase over usual. Target, another retailer testing electronic shelf labels, has also faced internal pushback after employees noticed steep price increases on everyday items due to tariffs. Target, a major competitor that's also begun using electronic store labels, has left employees fearful for their jobs with its price hikes. Workers spotted everyday products with drastic price jumps, including a $9.99 USB-C cord now costing $17.99. For many consumers, the fear is that digital pricing makes it easier for retailers to pass those increases on — without anyone noticing until it's too late.
