
Two Chinese citizens killed in East Coast Expressway Crash
KUANTAN: Two Chinese citizens were killed in a road accident involving two vehicles at Km 234.7 of the East Coast Expressway (LPT), heading towards Kuantan, yesterday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Zahari Wan Busu said the dead have been identified as Zhengtai and Chunhua.
According to reports, the accident occurred at around 2pm and involved a Mercedes-Benz carrying three Chinese citizens and a Nissan X-Trail driven by a local woman with four passengers.
"Investigations revealed that the Nissan X-Trail was travelling from Kuala Lumpur towards Kuantan.
"Upon reaching the scene, the vehicle, which was moving straight on the right lane, suddenly struck the right-side divider, and came to a stop in the left lane.
"At the same time, the Mercedes-Benz, carrying the three Chinese nationals, was unable to avoid the stationary X-Trail and collided with it in the left lane.
"As a result of the crash, two of the Chinese nationals died at the scene, while the third sustained injuries.
"The driver and four passengers of the Nissan X-Trail also suffered injuries and were taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) for treatment," he said.
Wan Zahari added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

TANGKAK: A 25-year-old man was killed in a four-vehicle crash at Kilometre 12, Lebuh AMJ Kesang, Sungai Mati, near here today. One dead, 13 injured in three-vehicle crash in Machang
MACHANG: A man was killed and 13 others were injured in an accident involving three vehicles at Kilometre 9.4, Jalan Machang-Pasir Puteh (Banggol Judah), here last night. Machang district police chief, Superintendent Ahmad Shafiki Hussin, said the incident, which occurred at around 11.45 pm, involved a Chevrolet four-wheel drive, a Proton Waja and a Perodua Kancil. 'Initial investigations found that the Chevrolet pickup truck carrying five individuals from Machang to Pasir Puteh lost control and skidded into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with a Proton Waja carrying six individuals from the opposite direction,' he said in a statement today. As a result of the collision, the driver of the Proton Waja died at the scene of the incident after being trapped in the vehicle. 'The Perodua Kancil that was behind the Proton Waja with three individuals including a child was also involved when it crashed into the involved vehicle,' he said. Ahmad Shafiki said the victim's body had been sent to Machang Hospital for a post-mortem, while 13 other injured victims were taken to Machang Hospital and Tanah Merah Hospital for further treatment. According to him, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The offences including expired vehicle licences, driving without a licence, structural modifications, modified exhausts, missing side mirrors, missing or fancy registration numbers, failure to display the 'P' (probationary) plate, and faulty motorcycle brakes. 'Three local men, aged 16, 21 and 25, were inspected and detained on suspicion of committing offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. 'If convicted, all suspects will be charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a minimum fine of RM5,000 up to RM10,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence,' ACP Mohd Farhan said in the statement. Additionally, 11 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act for documentation purposes.
