One dead, 13 injured in three-vehicle crash in Machang
Machang district police chief, Superintendent Ahmad Shafiki Hussin, said the incident, which occurred at around 11.45 pm, involved a Chevrolet four-wheel drive, a Proton Waja and a Perodua Kancil.
'Initial investigations found that the Chevrolet pickup truck carrying five individuals from Machang to Pasir Puteh lost control and skidded into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with a Proton Waja carrying six individuals from the opposite direction,' he said in a statement today.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the Proton Waja died at the scene of the incident after being trapped in the vehicle.
'The Perodua Kancil that was behind the Proton Waja with three individuals including a child was also involved when it crashed into the involved vehicle,' he said.
Ahmad Shafiki said the victim's body had been sent to Machang Hospital for a post-mortem, while 13 other injured victims were taken to Machang Hospital and Tanah Merah Hospital for further treatment.
According to him, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Magistrate's Court sets Sept 10 for representation decision in reckless driving case
The accused being taken away after the court was told that the prosecution had yet to get a reply on the representation filed by his defence team SEREMBAN: The Magistrate's court here has fixed Sept 10 to hear the outcome of a representation filed by a 17-year-old car driver facing three charges of causing the deaths of three young motorcyclists due to reckless driving. Magistrate Saiful Sayoti made the decision after the court was told the prosecution had yet to get a reply on the representation filed by the defence. Lawyer for the accused Johan Radzi told this to reporters when met outside the court as the proceedings were heard in camera. The accused claimed trial when charged on April 22, with committing the offence at the Taman Matahari junction along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 near here around 8.30pm on March 6. He was charged with causing the deaths of Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16 and Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17. The charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction. The accused had also claimed trial to another charge of driving without a valid license. He was charged under Section 26(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to three months or both upon conviction. He had also filed a representation for the charge. On May 21, Johan had told the court of his client's intention to file a representation to have the charges against him reviewed.

Motorcyclist dies after crashing into fallen tree in Tanjung Sedili
KOTA TINGGI: A 26-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a fallen tree shortly after midnight on Wednesday (Aug 13). Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said police received a report about the incident, which occurred along Jalan Kampung Teluk/Pelepat, Tanjung Sedili here, at 12.10am. 'The accident was believed to have occurred when the male victim hit a fallen tree and fell from his motorcycle. 'The victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Tanjung Sedili health clinic,' he said in a statement. He said the victim's body has been sent to the forensic unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for investigation purposes. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 10 years, as well as a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000. Supt Yusof also advised the public to remain alert and obey traffic laws and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
