Magistrate's Court sets Sept 10 for representation decision in reckless driving case
SEREMBAN: The Magistrate's court here has fixed Sept 10 to hear the outcome of a representation filed by a 17-year-old car driver facing three charges of causing the deaths of three young motorcyclists due to reckless driving.
Magistrate Saiful Sayoti made the decision after the court was told the prosecution had yet to get a reply on the representation filed by the defence.
Lawyer for the accused Johan Radzi told this to reporters when met outside the court as the proceedings were heard in camera.
The accused claimed trial when charged on April 22, with committing the offence at the Taman Matahari junction along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 near here around 8.30pm on March 6.
He was charged with causing the deaths of Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16 and Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17.
The charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction.
The accused had also claimed trial to another charge of driving without a valid license.
He was charged under Section 26(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to three months or both upon conviction.
He had also filed a representation for the charge.
On May 21, Johan had told the court of his client's intention to file a representation to have the charges against him reviewed.

NIBONG TEBAL: A lorry driver was arrested for reckless driving during a police chase and for obstructing authorities from inspecting his vehicle during an integrated operation on Saturday night. The incident unfolded during a police operation targeting street thugs, codenamed Op Samseng Jalanan, near the Jawi toll plaza at about 11.30pm. During the operation, the police spotted two tipper lorries being driven suspiciously. "Further checks indicated that the vehicle's road tax had expired, although its insurance remained valid," he said in a statement on Sunday. Jay added that the suspect tested negative for drugs during a urine screening and that the vehicle had been seized. The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving. "We want to remind the public that reckless driving is a serious offence that can result in fatal accidents, and we will not hesitate to take stern action," he said. Jay said police would intensify enforcement efforts, particularly operations targeting dangerous drivers, to ensure the safety of all road users.

Five, including teenager, held for illegal racing in Muar
MUAR: Police arrested five motorcyclists, including a teenager, for taking part in illegal street racing and performing dangerous stunts on Jalan Pintasan Temenggung Ahmad here early Sunday morning (Aug 17). Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said all five, aged 17 to 28, were arrested during Ops Samseng Jalanan at about 3.55am. 5 riders busted for 'Superman' stunts in Muar
MUAR: Five motorcyclists, including a 17-year-old, were arrested for performing "superman" stunts and taking part in illegal racing along Jalan Pintasan Temenggung Ahmad in the early hours of this morning. The suspects, aged between 17 and 28, were detained at 3.55am during Ops Samseng Jalanan, a traffic enforcement operation involving 14 officers from the district police headquarters.
