Koraput: Raising concerns over limited access to teacher training programmes in the tribal-dominated Koraput region, Pottangi MLA Ram Chandra Kadam has urged the state govt to introduce the integrated teacher education programme (ITEP) in govt colleges across Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts.
In a memorandum submitted to chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday, the Congress legislator highlighted the lack of local representation in the region's sole teacher education institute, DAV College of Teacher Education (CTE) in Koraput which currently offers a two-year B.Ed course. According to Kadam, nearly 80% of the seats are occupied by students from outside the district, depriving local tribal youth of opportunities to pursue a career in teaching.
The memorandum underscored that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 envisions ITEP as a game-changing initiative that integrates undergraduate studies (BA/BSc/BCom) with B.Ed. training over four years, aiming to produce high-quality educators.
While several premier institutions across Odisha have already adopted ITEP, including BJB Autonomous College and Rajdhani College in Bhubaneswar, FM College in Balasore, MPC College in Baripada, GM University in Sambalpur, and SCS College in Puri, Koraput district remains excluded, the memorandum read.

"A recent directive from the department of higher education listed new institutions set to implement ITEP from the 2026-27 academic session, such as Rourkela Autonomous College, Phulbani Autonomous College, Panchayat College Bargarh and Government Women's College Sambalpur, yet no colleges from the Koraput region were included," it added.
"I request the state govt to consider launching ITEP on a pilot basis in one or more colleges in Koraput from the academic session of 2026-27," Kadam said.
He further emphasized that establishing ITEP in the region would not only empower local youths with professional teaching credentials but also contribute to long-term improvements in education quality across tribal communities. "This will serve as a cornerstone for educational equity and upliftment in south Odisha," he added.

Wadakkanchery LIFE project site inspection delayed by early monsoon onset, govt tells Kerala HC

Kochi: The state govt has informed high court that the team from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kozhikode, had to defer its site inspection to assess the stability of the existing structure constructed under the LIFE Mission housing project at Charalparambu in Wadakkanchery, Thrissur, due to the early onset of monsoon. It was further informed that the site inspection would resume next week and that four weeks' time is required to submit the report. The submission was made in response to a petition filed by Congress leader Anil Akkara, who sought a directive to resume the halted LIFE Mission project in Wadakkanchery. Recording the state's submission, the Bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji adjourned the petition to July 15 for the report from NIT, Kozhikode. In his petition, Anil Akkara highlighted that 140 families are beneficiaries of the project and that further delays would severely affect them. In 2019, the UAE-based Red Crescent signed an agreement with the LIFE Mission to construct housing complexes at Charalparambu, awarding the contract to Unitac Builders and Sane Ventures. However, following the arrest of M Sivasankar, then Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, in connection with a gold smuggling case, allegations of FCRA violations in the LIFE Mission project emerged, resulting in the stalling of construction.

India will not talk to Pakistan with gun pointed at our head: Shashi Tharoor

US correspondent from US: An Indian parliamentary team tasked with highlighting Pakistan's terrorist depredations has conveyed to US interlocutors that New Delhi will not talk to Islamabad "with a gun pointed to our head" even as a Pakistani delegation tailing the Indian team in Washington DC desperately sought President Trump's mediation between the two sides. Summing up India's stance, delegation leader Shashi Tharoor likened Pakistan to a neighbor who "unleashes a rottweiler to bite your children and do worse and then says 'let's talk." Talks are not possible unless Pakistan locks up the rottweilers (terrorists) or puts them to sleep, Tharoor said. Tharoor also rejected efforts to insinuate US into bilateral issues saying India has enormous respect for the American presidency and the American president, but "we have never particularly wanted to ask anyone to mediate." India can speak all the languages Pakistan speaks and is happy to talk to them in any of them if they roll up their terrorism policy and infrastructure, "but as long as they use the language of terrorism, we will use the language of force. That doesn't require a third party,' Tharoor said, even as the team from Islamabad, in its meetings, rolled out the familiar trope of "Pakistan is a victim of terrorism," which the Indian delegation ridiculed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo In one vivid presentation, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya listed five Pakistanis and five Indians who are famous in the US to highlight the difference between the two countries. For Pakistan: Ramzi Yousuf, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, Faisal Shahzad, Tashfeen Malik, and Muhammad Shahzeb Khan -- all of whom conducted terrorist attacks on the US. For India: Indra Nooyi, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Ajay Banga, Arvind Krishna -- all corporate titans who have generated billions in economic activity in the US. "India gives tech titans, Pak gives terrorists," Surya noted. The Indian delegation met US vice-president JD Vance on Thursday morning to convey India's stand after engaging dozens of US lawmakers from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the India Caucus, which has nearly 200 legislators, including 40 Senators, compared to the Pakistan Caucus, which has only around 50 members -- a differential the Indian side mentioned to highlight the breadth of support for India. The Pakistani team meanwhile labored to make an impression on the few meetings its cobbled together on the Hill, insisting that the Kashmir issue was an 'unfinished agenda of the United Nations' despite being outed repeatedly on UN resolutions that seek Pakistan's withdrawal from the territory it has occupied. "Raised concerns over India's recent provocations, the deepening humanitarian crisis in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir," Bhutto posted on X after one such meeting, even though there is no humanitarian crisis in J&K other than terrorist attacks initiated by Pakistan. The Indian delegation in fact told US interlocutors that J&K was seeing unprecedented economic activity and travel boom, "with more tourists than in Aspen, Colorado" before Pahalgam terrorist attack.
