Comedian Jimmy Fallon Makes Fun Of Trump's Tariff Move Against India, Jokes About Putin
Last Updated: Fallon mentioned India among other countries as Trump announced a 50 per cent tariff on New Delhi in response to its refusal to halt oil imports from long-time ally Russia. American comedian and talk show host Jimmy Fallon once again mixed politics with punchlines, this time targeting US President Donald Trump's latest tariff move against India, all while taking a jab at Russia's Vladimir Putin. On The Tonight Show, Fallon told viewers, 'Today, more of President Trump's tariffs hit over 90 countries, including Canada, Brazil, and India. The only places Trump didn't charge are North Korea and Epstein's island." The remark referenced the recent Wall Street Journal expose, linking Trump to the disgraced financier. The outlet ran a story claiming the president had signed a birthday letter to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump denied sending the letter and filed a lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch, the Wall Street Journal, and NewsCorp, alleging the report was based on 'sources that don't even exist." As the case moves through the court, the president has continued to push back against criticism from the publication. That lumps India in with Brazil, already battling a 50 per cent US tariff. Notably, both India and Brazil held talks to discuss future trade strategies amid tariff threats. Fallon, riffing on Brazil's trade woes, quipped about rising fruit prices and even toilet paper shortages, joking that desperate shoppers might resort to using 'long CVS receipts" instead. The comedian also poked fun at Trump's claim he would give Russia a deadline to end the Ukraine war, delivering the punchline: 'Right under building a new ballroom to meet Sydney Sweeney." He then imagined world leaders reacting to Trump's possible meeting with Putin: 'Oo, you're in trouble." The Kremlin has consistently rejected the proposal to meet Trump alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On Thursday, it reportedly said a US–Russia summit would take place only if Zelenskyy were not present. Fallon's blend of satire and celebrity gossip is a staple of his show. Priyanka Chopra has been among the Indian stars to mark her presence on his worldwide popular show, though on this occasion, it was India's trade policy — and its oil ties with Moscow — that put the country squarely in Fallon's comedic crosshairs. Bundesliga Holders Bayern Munich End 'Visit Rwanda' Sponsorship Deal Amid Conflict
Last Updated: The partnership, initially penned in the year 2023 and set to run until 2028, would shift to focus on a youth academy, the Bavarian heavyweights said on Friday. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will put an end to the sponsorship agreement promoting tourism in Rwanda amid controversy pertaining to the ongoing conflict in the region. The partnership, initially penned in the year 2023 and set to run until 2028, would shift to focus on a youth academy, the Bavarian heavyweights said on Friday. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said, 'The new arrangement transitions away from a commercial sponsorship to a dedicated partnership focusing on football development in Rwanda through the expansion of the FC Bayern Youth Academy in Kigali." While the statement did not explicitly mention the reasons behind the shift, a German media outlet reported that the decision was driven by criticism due to the escalating conflict. In February, Bayern fans displayed a banner at a home game stating that the deal 'betrayed the values" of the club. The Rwandan government has been accused of neglecting human rights and supporting rebels fighting against government forces in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo. At the beginning of 2025, violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo intensified. The Rwandan-backed M23 armed group and Rwandan troops seized Goma, the capital of North Kivu province, in January, followed by Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu province, in February. The UN estimates that thousands have died as a result of the attacks. The deal included 'Visit Rwanda' advertising at Bayern's 75,000-seat Allianz Arena, replacing a controversial deal with Qatar, which had also been criticised by the club's supporters. In response to the criticism of the previous deal, Bayern sent staff to Rwanda to assess the situation on the ground. The new contract runs until 2028. Premier League side Arsenal and Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain have also faced criticism for similar sponsorship deals with Rwanda. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
