Beefed-up World Pool presence to showcase Queensland winter carnival to globe
Last year's winter carnival was the first time the Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool featured in Queensland, with races from the Sunshine State beamed internationally and punters betting into a supercharged international parimutuel wagering pool.
It was an immediate success, with Queensland Derby Day at Eagle Farm combining with the Epsom Derby Day in the UK to set a then-record wagering turnover, with 12 races across the two race days generating $HK385.2 million (approx. $A74.2m).
In 2025, Doomben will be part of the World Pool schedule for the first time with selected races on Saturday's Group 1 Doomben 10,000 card and the following Saturday's Group 1 Doomben Cup meeting included.
The races on both Doomben 10,000 and Doomben Cup days will create international double events alongside black-type racing from Newbury (UK) and The Curragh (Ireland) respectively.
Stradbroke Handicap Day will stand alone as the only World Pool fixture on June 14.
The trio of meetings will form a total of nine races broadcast live to Hong Kong audiences and form one international parimutuel wagering pool for racing fans across the globe.
'World Pool is the most powerful vehicle we have to showcase Queensland racing to a truly global audience,' Brisbane Racing Club CEO Karl deKroo said.
'This year, nine of our premier races will be beamed into more than 25 jurisdictions and viewed by millions of punters and racing fans worldwide.

NSW trucking company DJK Transport goes bust after 57 years
An Australian trucking company has gone into liquidation after almost 60 years in business. DJK Transport entered voluntary liquidation on Friday, after a restructuring practitioner was appointed in June. The business is listed as being based out of Austral in southwest Sydney, and according to their website has been a 'trusted transport service since 1968'. DJK Transport provided local and interstate freight and distribution, including trailers, tautliners, and flat-top trucks, according to their website. The company previously undertook mine-related freight work, as well as freight work for distribution centres for chain supermarkets and department stores. A liquidation notice posted to ASIC revealed that it was resolved at a general meeting on August 8 that the company be wound up. Danny Tony Vrkic was appointed liquidator. It comes after a further two transport companies entered voluntary liquidation on Friday, including AKG Trucking and Round Em Up Transport.

Meg Lanning in the leading run-scorer in The Hundred two years after international retirement
Australian star Annabel Sutherland has soared to be the No.1 T20 bowler in the world, but an Aussie who doesn't play international cricket is dominating the short format in England. Former captain Meg Lanning is the highest run-scorer in The Hundred after another blistering effort. At 33, and having played her last match for her country in 2023 before a premature retirement that shocked the cricket and sporting world, Lanning continues to show herself to be a batting force. Playing for the Oval Invincibles, Lanning's latest effort was part of a powerhouse opening partnership that racked up 54 runs off 25 balls, the best powerplay score in the five-year history of the competition. Lanning smashed six fours in her 19-ball innings of 36 that took her haul in the tournament to 177 runs in just three innings, 20 ahead of big-hitting Aussie Grace Harris, who still plays for Australia. Since her retirement from the international game, Lanning has continued to plunder runs for Victoria as well as dominate the Indian Premier League, where she's the third highest run-scorer in the tournament's history. All those runs have come against international-calibre bowlers, making it clear she would still be a batting force for Australia. Lanning's retirement sparked a regeneration of the Australian team, and superstar all-rounder Sutherland has been a major beneficiary. The 23-year-old has netted centuries at Test and ODI level and continues to star with the ball. Sutherland has also been a beneficiary of a quirk of the International Cricket Council's rankings system, being elevated to the No.1 T20 bowling ranking despite not playing an international T20 since she took a four-wicket haul against New Zealand in March. But her rating of 736 remains unchanged, as a group of bowlers near the top of the rankings lost points across the last week.
