Gorringe named Swansea chief executive

Yahoo19-03-2025

Tom Gorringe is to take charge of the day-to-day running of Swansea City having been promoted to chief executive officer (CEO) just a month after the club announced his arrival as chief operating officer (COO).
Former Bristol Rovers chief executive Gorringe joined Swansea as part of a shake-up of the Championship side's leadership team.
But he has been moved to the key CEO role in the wake of news that Andy Coleman is to leave his post as chairman at the end of the season.
Gorringe will now become the central figure at Swansea alongside Richard Montague, who was appointed director of football last month.
"We met Tom in the winter of 2024, and we were immediately impressed speaking with him," said a joint statement from Swansea shareholders Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen.
"We had a thought-provoking and lively dialogue about Swansea City and the long-term direction we want to go as a club.
"Over the course of multiple conversations and in-person meetings, it became clear that our visions aligned and that Tom's experience as a seasoned operator at past football clubs would be of significant value to us moving forward."
Cravatt and Cohen, who are key stakeholders at Swansea following the club's change of ownership in November, say they have been impressed by Gorringe's "positive impact" since his appointment as COO.

"Tom is tasked with restructuring the club to ensure we are operating efficiently and to optimal standards, and we are confident he will do just that," they added.
Swansea's owners are based in America, with Coleman – who will continue to be involved with the club as a board member and co-investor – expected to return to the USA this summer having spent two seasons living and working in south Wales.
Coleman had been in charge of running the club, but Swansea have confirmed that responsibility now lies with Gorringe.
Gorringe left Rovers last August having spent three years as the League One club's chief executive and the previous four years as their commercial director.
He had previously worked for Brighton and Hove Albion, Portsmouth and Cardiff City.
Gorringe said he is excited by his new role, but aware that "there is a lot to do".
"Since joining, I have been impressed with the staff and the vast potential at the club as well as the ambition of the ownership group," he told Swansea's website.
"We have everything that we need here to be successful. We want to build on our strong foundations and drive the club towards sustainable success that gets us back to competing at the top of the division.
"The ownership group is fully committed to delivering success for this club, and I'm honoured to be the person that they've entrusted to deliver for them."
Coleman has suggested he is stepping away from the chairman role to spend more time with his family.
However, he moves aside having faced much criticism during his spell at the helm, primarily over Swansea's recruitment work and key football appointments.
In what has been a period of considerable flux at Swansea, Luke Williams left his role as head coach last month, just 24 hours before Montague - who he had worked with at former club Notts County - arrived as the long-awaited successor to Paul Watson.
Alan Sheehan has been caretaker boss for five matches, but there is continued uncertainty over Swansea's long-term managerial plans.
Long-time majority shareholders Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan's spell at Swansea came to an end last November, as their stake was sold to fellow shareholders Cravatt, Nigel Morris and Coleman as well as businessman Cohen.
Gorringe says he has "always enjoyed an open dialogue with supporters" during his time working in football.
He added that a new date will soon be announced for Swansea's twice-postponed fans' forum.

Penn Cambria freshman places first in state shooting competition

CRESSON, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Penn Cambria freshman placed first in the Pennsylvania State High School Clay Target League competition in the Female JV division. Kendall McConnell was one of two Panthers to place in their respective divisions, with sophomore Isabella Weisinger placing fourth overall in the varsity category. Penn Cambria finished 11th in the total team standings. For McConnell, she grew up around trap shooting from a young age. She drew that inspiration from her father. 'My dad was a coach, and I would always come down here, and I just started shooting,' McConnell said. Kendall and her dad, Tom McConnell, spend most of their time either at the Cresson Sportsmans Club shooting at the range or in the woods of Central Pennsylvania hunting for deer and pheasants. The company came as a surprise to Tom. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County celebrates 79th home build 'I was excited,' Tom said. 'It's not very often you get a daughter that will partake in the outdoor sports as deeply as she has.' The Penn Cambria Clay Trap Shooting team started up in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Led by McConnell and Vickie Wirfel, the team started with rough ground due to social distancing and the construction of a new shooting range field. Regardless of the changes, Kendall was always found at the range with her father, joining the rest of the team in target practice. 'She wasn't eligible yet to shoot for the team, but she helped us build it and shot alongside our kids just for sport,' Wirfel said. 'And that was a beautiful thing.' Kendall soon got her shot as a member of the team during her freshman campaign in the Spring of 2025. Her season had a rough start due to her gun's calibration and choke being off. 'I experienced a lot of roller coasters because my gun,' Kendall said. 'We kind of figured out how to adjust it correctly. So I wasn't shooting the best scores.' 'She had a very big struggle with trying to break 16,' Tom said. 'There were weeks that she shot below 16, and it was very disheartening to her.' They got her gun fixed by the time the state competition rolled around. Once she got to the tournament, she felt determined to up her game. 'My thought was just to not give up because you never know,' Kendall said. 'It's a hard game, and I just tell myself to shoot for fun.' She took her shot, managing to shoot 24 out of 25 clay targets in her first outing, en route to an 86 out of 100 in the competition, which was good enough to place first in the female JV division. 'I was very proud of myself for getting that far and shooting well and like, being above everybody,' Kendall said. 'It's crazy to see how hard she worked the last couple of weeks going into states, get back up on top of things and be able to pull it off,' Tom added. She now has a medal to remind her of her accomplishment, which comes at a price heading into her sophomore year. With a big target on her back, she plans to keep her eyes down her sight to stay at the top of her game. 'I always tell them to shoot this bird that they're going to shoot like it's the only bird they have to shoot all day,' Tom said. 'When you get in your head, it really brings your scores down,' Kendall added. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. FORMER U'S: Striker signs two-year deal with League One newcomers

FORMER Colchester United striker Brandon Hanlan has joined League One newcomers Doncaster Rovers. The 28-year-old has signed for the reigning League Two champions on a two-year deal, following his exit from Wycombe Wanderers after four years at Adams Park. Advertisement Hanlan told the Doncaster website: "For me it is about being somewhere that you're wanted. 'Speaking to the manager about the way he plays and wants to play and for myself it's about being in a team that creates chances and do well. 'The gaffer has had nothing but good things to say about myself but also the club and the players so at the end of the day it was a no-brainer for me.' Hanlan made 20 league and cup appearances for Colchester after joining them on loan from Charlton, in the 2017-18 season. The forward, who has recently been on loan at Stevenage, scored twice in his first three appearances for the U's but failed to net after that and then struggled to claim a place in John McGreal's starting line-up. Advertisement Hanlan has since gone on to make nearly 250 appearances at League One level, scoring 48 times in those matches. Former Colchester United attacker signs for Scottish club Doncaster boss Grant McCann told the club's website: 'He's someone who has annoyed me whenever I've come up against him. 'Brandon brings his energy, his pressing, his aggression. 'Our front three has to run and work. They start every line of defence for us in terms of what they do. 'Brandon brings that first and foremost and now it's up to us to get him into goalscoring positions. "We create chances, this team will create chances for Brandon and we need to get him between the posts to take them.'
