Think It's Too Late to Buy Rivian? Here's the No. 1 Reason Why There's Still Time.
Key Points Rivian's growth rates could spike next year. But the electric vehicle manufacturer still lacks one key growth driver. 10 stocks we like better than Rivian Automotive › Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN) is about to enter one of the most exciting growth spurts in its history. It plans to launch a new discounted model in as little as six months, with two more new models to follow soon after. These launches could easily double or even triple the company's revenue over the coming years. That has investors excited and the stock price on the rise. Think it's too late to invest? Think again. There's one reason Rivian shares remain surprisingly cheap. Rivian doesn't have this exciting business segment Other electric vehicle stocks like Tesla and Lucid Group trade at 6 to 13 times trailing sales. Rivian, meanwhile, trades at just 2.6 times trailing sales. Why the big discount? Growth is a big part of the story. Lucid is expected to grow its sales by 60% this fiscal year, while Rivian's sales are expected to grow by just 6.5%. Tesla is the outlier. Analysts expect its sales to fall by around 5% this year. Why then does Tesla stock remain extremely expensive? It turns out that both Lucid and Tesla have a growth opportunity that Rivian hasn't pursued very aggressively: robotaxis. Robotaxis are expected to be a huge market. Some analysts think the global opportunity could eventually be worth up to $10 trillion. Recent robotaxi announcements from both Lucid and Tesla, therefore, have given investors plenty of optimism for long-term growth potential. Rivian has been surprisingly quiet on the robotaxi front. One of its board members even recently criticized Tesla's efforts, stressing that the service has a long way to go to be truly autonomous. A lack of robotaxi upside is likely a strong reason why Rivian shares are priced at such a relative discount to the competition. The robotaxi opportunity is still very early stages, however. Rivian's new models, meanwhile, are near-term opportunities. We should see growth rates pick up considerably next year, allowing investors to take advantage of today's discounted valuation. Rivian simply doesn't need robotaxis to grow considerably in 2025. Should you invest $1,000 in Rivian Automotive right now? Great Rates and Award-Winning Service The Insurance Savings You Expect Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You reported that buyers within 75 miles of Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle will be able to shop starting Wednesday, with plans to scale to 45 locations nationwide. The move brings more visibility to Hertz's car sales business, which it has been working to grow. It also represents a new step for Amazon, which launched its autos business in December through a partnership with Hyundai. Amazon drives into online car sales in US with Hyundai partnership Amazon Autos added used and certified pre-owned cars earlier this month, and Hertz will become its first fleet dealer, offering vehicles from Ford, Toyota, Chevrolet and Nissan. 'Our goal is to reimagine the car-buying experience and meet customers where they are,' Jeff Adams, executive vice president of Hertz Car Sales, told He added that Amazon is the 'ideal partner' to give shoppers access to Hertz's used car inventory on a trusted marketplace. The push into online car sales comes as Hertz continues its turnaround efforts. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2020 during the pandemic and later scaled back an ambitious EV strategy. Last year, CEO Gil West unveiled a 'Back-to-Basics Roadmap' aimed at improving fleet management, revenue optimization and cost controls. Hertz said the first quarter of 2025 marked its strongest ever for retail vehicle sales. On its Aug. 7 earnings call, West highlighted momentum in the company's Rent2Buy programme, which lets customers rent a vehicle for three days before deciding to purchase. That program is expected to expand to more than 100 cities this year. Pakistan, China and Afghanistan hold high-level meeting in Kabul to boost cooperation
ISLAMABAD (AP) — Top diplomats from Pakistan,China and Afghanistan committed their countries to stronger anti-terrorism cooperation during a meeting Wednesday in Kabul aimed at boosting political and economic partnership, Pakistan's foreign ministry said. The three sides also 'reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration in trade, transit, regional development, health, education, culture, and combating drug trafficking," according to a statement from Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. The parties also reaffirmed an earlier agreement to extend the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor to Afghanistan, the statement added. It provided no further details on the meeting among Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and top Taliban officials, hosted by the Taliban government in Kabul. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor involves improving road and rail links between China's western Xinjiang region and Pakistan's Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea. Pakistan's authorities in recent weeks have said they hope the corridor will help attract more Chinese investment to revive its ailing economy, and that they are hopeful that extending it to Afghanistan will boost trade with Central Asia. The meeting came more than a month after Russia became the first country to formally recognize the Taliban's government in Afghanistan. While no country apart from Russian has offered formal recognition, the Taliban have engaged in high-level talks with many nations and established some diplomatic ties with countries including China and the United Arab Emirates. Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier had said that the meeting would include 'comprehensive discussions' on a wide range of issues, including political, economic and regional cooperation. The last round of the dialogue took place in May in Beijing.
