Rishi Sunak rooting for RCB in IPL 2025 final: 'Cheered them from Downing Street'
Former British Prime Minister has openly declared his allegiance to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the IPL 2025 final against Punjab Kings, calling the team his own due to deep personal ties. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "I'm married into a Bangalore family, so RCB is my team," Sunak tells recalling how he proposed to his wife Akshata Murty in Kannada — a language he admitted he hadn't quite mastered at the time. The former British leader, in India to cheer on RCB who are seeking their first IPL title, revealed that his in-laws gifted him an RCB jersey when he got married, and that he's followed the team closely ever since. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. "We went to matches a long time ago and I used to cheer them on in Downing Street," he shares, adding that last year's campaign was especially thrilling to watch. Poll Do you believe RCB will win their first IPL title in 2025? Yes, absolutely! No, not this time. It's hard to say. Sunak named as his favourite player, calling him a "total legend" and proudly mentioning a signed bat gifted to him by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his tenure at Downing Street. "It's one of my prized possessions," he says. But Sunak isn't only counting on the Indian superstar. "I'm also hoping for a big contribution from RCB's English contingent — Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone — let's bring it home," he adds, as Bengaluru look to secure their maiden IPL title at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Beyond his personal fandom, Sunak applauded the 's transformative effect on world cricket. "The IPL has transformed cricket. Every cricketer, everywhere, wants to play in the IPL at some point in their career now," he says, noting its developmental impact on English players. (Pic credit: Special arrangement) Sunak also highlighted the IPL's (WPL) contribution to women's cricket and broader cultural influence. "It's been great for the women's game, getting more girls into the sport. But it's also a sign of the influence that India now has in the 21st century. India's passions, India's tastes now have global impact." He concluded with a nod to cricket's return to the Olympics at Los Angeles in 2028. "Why is cricket back in the Olympics for the first time in 100 years? Because of India." IPL 2025 Final, RCB vs Punjab Kings: The wait will finally end in Ahmedabad Diplomacy meets cricket Sunak also underscored cricket's unique ability to serve as a diplomatic tool despite the historic rivalry on the field using his relationship with Australian PM Anthony Albanese and India's PM Narendra Modi. "Prime Minister Albanese and I always had great cricket banter — especially during the Ashes, where at one point it got a tiny bit heated, but all in a friendly way," he laughs. "And Prime Minister Modi and I always had great cricket chat before we got down to business." "Cricket reminds you who your friends are and your shared passions. It puts everyone in the right frame of mind before you get down to the serious diplomatic stuff," he adds, looking ahead to India's tour of England this summer. "It's going to be a great tour and I know it will strengthen the partnership and friendship between our two countries."

IPL Final 2025: Popular AI chatbots split between RCB and PBKS when asked to pick a winner
When asked to predict the winner of the IPL 2025 final between RCB and PBKS, popular AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Grok couldn't agree. One of them leaned towards RCB, while other backed PBKS. read more It's difficult to predict who will win the between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), which will be played on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RCB defeated PBKS in Qualifier 1 to reach the final, but don't forget, PBKS finished at the top of the points table and dismantled Mumbai Indians (MI) in style in Qualifier 1 to reach the summit clash. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD So, we thought, why not ask Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbots about who they think will win the IPL 2025 final? We picked two of the most popular chatbots for this experimentation – ChatGPT and Grok. Also Read | IPL Final: Rain set to impact high-stakes match at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad While they gave very insightful predictions, the problem is that they are divided over who will win the IPL 2025 final. Grok, which is developed by Elon Musk's X, feels Virat Kohli's RCB has a 60% chance of winning the IPL 2025 final due to 'their depth and experience in high-pressure games.' ChatGPT, however, is leaning towards PBKS as it feels they are hungrier and have the X-factor. AI chatbots ChatGPT, Grok pick IPL 2025 winner We have provided below the exact responses of the AI chatbots when asked to predict the IPL 2025 final winner between RCB and PBKS. Grok: 'Predicting the winner of the IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) is tough, as both teams have shown strong form to reach the final. RCB has a slight edge due to their balanced squad, with Virat Kohli's consistent batting, a potent bowling attack led by Mohammed Siraj, and recent momentum from their playoff performance. PBKS, however, has been a surprise package with explosive batsmen like Shashank Singh and a versatile bowling unit led by Arshdeep Singh. 'Based on current form and team composition, RCB might have a 60% chance of winning due to their depth and experience in high-pressure games, but PBKS's unpredictability could make it a close contest. Key factors will be RCB's ability to handle PBKS's aggressive middle order and how PBKS counters RCB's spin attack on the Ahmedabad pitch, which often favors balanced sides.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Also Read | IPL final: Longest wait for maiden title and other records that could be broken in Ahmedabad showdown ChatGPT: 'Alright — I'll pick PBKS (Punjab Kings) to win the IPL 2025 Final — and here's why, purely based on my own reasoning: 🔴 1. They're Playing with House Money PBKS has never won an IPL title. That creates hunger, but also gives them a kind of freedom. Unlike RCB, who carry the burden of years of expectations, PBKS comes in with a 'nothing to lose' mindset — and that can be lethal in a final. 🔥 2. Momentum Is Everything Historically, the IPL has shown that the team peaking at the right time — even if not the most star-studded — often takes the trophy. If PBKS has reached the final, it likely means they've been consistent and sharp across departments, especially under pressure. 💣 3. Their X-Factor Style Suits a Final PBKS is known for bold, attacking cricket. That style doesn't always work in long tournaments, but in a one-off final, aggression often tilts the game. If a couple of their big-hitters click — say a 70 off 30 — that could put the game out of reach quickly. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 😰 4. RCB's Psychological Baggage Is Real RCB has had great squads in the past and still fallen short — 2009, 2011, 2016. That kind of history creeps in during tight moments. Finals are won as much in the mind as on the pitch, and PBKS may simply handle the pressure better this time. 🧠 My Call: PBKS wins the IPL 2025 Final — not just because they're good, but because they're fearless, fresher under pressure, and less shackled by history.'
