Sterilise people accused of 'love jihad', says Bhopal MP amid rising cases

India Today02-05-2025

Bhopal BJP MP Alok Sharma has demanded the sterilisation of individuals accused of "love jihad" following the unearthing of a systematic sexual exploitation racket targeting Hindu students. A video of his controversial statement during a public event has gone viral on social media.Alok Sharma, who is a first-time Member of Parliament and former Mayor of Bhopal, said, "The government should ensure that those caught in love jihad cases are sterilised."He further urged the public to remain vigilant, saying, "Wherever such incidents are reported, call me directly. If needed, surround the police stations immediately."His remarks come after cases of Hindu students being targeted by a gang accused of 'love jihad' came to light last month. The gang would befriend Hindu women, sexually assault them and then blackmail them with obscene videos. Some women were also pressured to convert religion. The gravity of these claims has led to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the city's police commissioner.Sharma further warned of strict action in the future, saying, "If anyone tries to do such a thing, they will face consequences like never before. Society must be prepared for what action will be taken against them."Must Watch

"No Message, Will Give News Directly": Uddhav Thackeray On MNS Alliance Buzz

Uddhav Thackeray's party and his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray's MNS face this Hamletian dilemma in the face of poor electoral runs. With the upcoming Maharashtra civic polls, the buzz around the possible alliance between rival cousins has only gotten stronger. MNS is a breakaway group of the united Shiv Sena floated by Raj Thackeray in 2006. Uddhav Thackeray, who leads the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), did not dismiss the idea when the alliance question was put to him. "Whatever is in the heart of Maharashtra will happen. He said that there is no confusion in the hearts of Shiv Sainiks. There is no confusion in the mind of MNS also. We will not give any message, we will give the news directly," said the former chief minister. The statement follows the declaration by Amit Thackeray, Raj Thackeray's son, that alliances are formed through direct dialogue, hinting that the cousins should speak. "Alliances aren't formed through media sound bites or newspaper headlines. Direct dialogue is necessary," Amit Thackeray said. The young Thackeray added that he had "no issues" with the brothers coming together. "Two brothers should speak. We talking on this issue will not make any difference. I don't have any issue with the two brothers coming together," he said further. What's fuelling political speculation is the growing chumminess between MNS and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), even though both camps insist that no formal talks have begun. The two rival parties were seen together at a recent MNS party office puja in Nashik, where local leaders from both sides shared the stage. Speaking to NDTV, Nashik district head DG Suryavanshi said that the local party heads participated in the puja of the new MNS office after they were officially invited by their MNS counterparts. "Seniors will decide on the union. The Thackerays got to take a call on it, but we tried to show that the workers on the ground are ready for this situation," said Mr Suryavanshi. On the possible challenges the alliance might pose, he added, "We'll see - wherever the strong candidate from either of the two parties is best suited, they will be fielded accordingly, but no such discussion has begun yet." The BJP did not appear too enthused with the chatter around the alliance buzz. "Political views differ. Even if the families come together, there will be different concepts of political arithmetic, hence there is doubt to what extent they will come together," BJP MLA Pravin Darekar said.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah's political secretary removed amid stampede during RCB victory celebrations

BENGALURU: A day after the State Government suspended five senior police officers, including the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, the Chief Minister's Political Secretary has been removed from the post with immediate effect. A notification by the Undersecretary (Protocol), Department of Personnel and Administrative Reform (DPAR) said K Govindaraj, Political Secretary to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been removed from the post with immediate effect. Congress MLC Govindaraj was appointed as the Political Secretary to the CM on June 1, 2023. The State government is facing flak after a stampede during the RCB's IPL-2025 victory celebrations at Chinnaswamy stadium that claimed 11 lives. Earlier in the day, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy had accused Govindaraj of putting pressure on the CM to hold RCB victory celebrations. The opposition BJP and JDS leaders are demanding the resignation of CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, and Home Minister G Parameshwara. On Thursday, the government suspended five senior officers including Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayanand. Accusing the government of making police officers scapegoats, BJP and JDS leaders said the investigation by CID, magisterial probe, and inquiry by a retired High Court judge would not reveal the truth and justice would not be served to the victims' families. The Congress party high command has to remove Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, said Kumaraswamy.

Modi, Nitish made Bihar India's crime capital, says Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday (June 6, 2025) slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the law and order situation in the State. On his fifth visit this year to the poll-bound State, Mr. Gandhi told a gathering in Rajgir's Nalanda, the home district of the Chief Minister, that the BJP and Mr. Kumar have turned Bihar from the 'land of knowledge' to the country's 'crime capital'. 'Bihar was once considered the land of truth, justice and non-violence. It showed the path to the entire world. People from across the globe used to come to study at Nalanda University. But today, the situation has changed. People from Bihar are forced to migrate to other States and abroad because there is no employment here. Today, Bihar has become the crime capital of the country,' he said. Talking about the caste census, Mr. Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said that '90% of the country's population has no real representation'. He said that backward classes, Dalits, Adivasis, and extremely backward communities have no 'meaningful presence' in the corporate sector, judiciary, bureaucracy, or among the owners of private hospitals and other institutions. The Congress leader said the caste census will reveal 'the reality of the country like an X-ray'. 'The day a proper caste census is done, it will not be just an X-ray but it will prove to be an MRI. I want to show the country the truth about how much injustice is being done to 90% of the population,' Mr. Gandhi said. He alleged that the Central government would not conduct the caste census 'accurately' because the day it happened, the BJP's politics 'would end'. Mr. Gandhi said that the 50% ceiling on reservation was 'meaningless' and whenever a Congress government is formed, it will 'break the 50% reservation barrier'. The Congress leader attacked Mr. Modi over the recent India-Pakistan military conflict, saying that the Prime Minister 'surrendered' after a call from U.S. President Donald Trump. 'Donald Trump has said 11 times – made Narendra Modi surrender — but Narendra Modi is unable to say anything, not even able to say that Trump has lied because this is the truth,' he said. Responding to Mr. Gandhi's allegations, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary said, 'Modi and Nitish have developed Bihar so much that Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad do not have the courage to talk on this issue.' 'He is raising the issue of crime to create a perception. There is no difference between Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad. One looted the country after coming to power, while the other looted Bihar,' Mr. Choudhary said. 'Nitish Kumar adopted a zero-tolerance policy on crime in Bihar, so no one is spared here. Action is taken immediately and the criminal has to go to jail. No one takes Rahul Gandhi's statement seriously,' he said.
