Four-star WR Mason James sets official visit with Washington Football
The Washington Huskies are making a big push to ramp up recruiting efforts in the South, and wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings could make a statement if he can earn a commitment from four-star wide receiver Mason James from Norman North High School in Oklahoma.
Ranked as the nation's No. 25 wide receiver and No. 174 overall prospect by 247Sports, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound pass catcher has reeled in 29 offers and has become Cummings' top target on the recruiting trail. The position coach took two trips to visit him in January, and he has returned the favor by attending Washington's Junior Day and setting up an official visit for June 6.
"Coach Cummings is just a real cool and genuine guy," James told Dawgman.com's Scott Eklund in February. "That whole coaching staff, with how they've been together for so long, they are exactly what I am looking for in a staff. They produce a lot of NFL talent, but they also have that family feel around their program."
After cutting his list of offers down to ten in February, James has also set up official visits with Arizona State, Missouri, and Oklahoma for May and June, giving the Huskies some stiff competition for the dynamic playmaker.
As a junior, James hauled in 56 catches for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns thanks to a combination of good speed, great vision, and strong hands that he displays on film. The Huskies have already reeled in one receiver in 2026 in local product Terrance Saryon, and adding James to the mix would give coach Jedd Fisch's class another promising playmaker to build around as they continue to pursue one of the nation's top quarterbacks, Brady Smigiel.

LeBron on his pride representing the USA in the Olympics after winning a bronze medal

LeBron on his pride representing the USA in the Olympics after winning a bronze medal In 2004, Team USA men's basketball came away from the Summer Olympics with only a bronze medal after losing to Argentina in the semifinal round. It was an embarrassment for the program, which seemed assured of winning the gold every time ever since NBA players were first allowed to participate in FIBA competition. LeBron James played on the 2004 Olympic team, and its disappointing performance has caused some to mock him — some have even nicknamed him "LeBronze" as a result. Team USA would soon revamp its program by bringing in legendary Duke University head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant. There were reportedly concerns about James' lack of maturity at the time, to the point where some feared he would single-handedly cause the team to not win the gold medal in the 2008 Olympics. But he said during a recent episode of his "Mind the Game" podcast that the squad's failure led to its players taking responsibility and having a sense of pride about representing the United States. "Everything is city-based here," James said. "And it took a while for us, as far as the Olympics, to get that sense of pride back. We got our [expletive] kicked in 2004, and then we lost in the World Championship in 2006. It took us time to be like, 'Oh, this is real.' "The rest of these countries not only are getting better with the game of basketball, but it's a sense of pride, too," James continued. "And when you have that sense of pride, you have a sense of work ethic that goes a lot longer. You have a sense of accountability that's a little bit longer. You have a sense of wanting to be there because you know what you're representing." With Bryant leading the way, Team USA regained the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Games, and it was a jubilant moment for the program and all of its players. In 2012, Bryant manfully took a back seat and let James become the head honcho. The result was another gold medal. Last summer, of course, after Team USA failed to medal in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant volunteered to play for Team USA in the Olympics once again. The squad won another gold medal, and James was named the MVP of the tournament for his all-around performance.

Former USC guard Desmond Claude commits to Washington

Former USC guard Desmond Claude commits to Washington Back in April, USC men's basketball star guard Desmond Claude made headlines when he surprisingly entered the transfer portal. On Sunday, Claude found a new home: He is headed to the Pacific Northwest to join Big Ten foe Washington. Claude is not the first Trojan transfer to depart for the Huskies this offseason. In May, Washington hired away USC assistant coach Quincy Pondexter. Shortly following that move, another high-profile Trojan transfer, Wesley Yates III, also announced his commitment to the Huskies. Here is what Huskies Wire had to say about the addition of Claude: 'As the Huskies scoured the country for a seasoned, high-impact wing to round out the rotation, the 6-foot-6 senior, who was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention for the 2024-25 season, is the perfect fit. Although he shot just 30.7 percent from long range last season, which has been one of Sprinkle's biggest points of emphasis throughout the offseason, Claude led the Trojans with an average of 15.8 points and 4.2 assists per game, adding 3.5 rebounds per contest while bringing several much-needed aspects to the roster.' With Claude and Yates both departing Southern California for Seattle, next season's matchups between USC and Washington should certainly be interesting. The Trojans and Huskies are slated to face off twice next season—once at Galen Center, and once in the Pacific Northwest.
