'I'm a travel influencer - I've been to 17 European cities and I'll never go back to 3'

A travel influencer has shared her thoughts on three European cities she'd never return to after visiting 17 urban destinations across the continent last year
A travel influencer has revealed the three European destinations she wishes she'd avoided after exploring 17 different. Last year, Sooyeon, a social media star from San Francisco undertook an ambitious European adventure.

Despite enjoying much of her time on the continent and immersing herself in the local cultures, there were three holiday destinations that left her feeling somewhat underwhelmed.

Taking to her TikTok account @soos.foods, she shared her candid travel insights: "These are three cities I probably would've skipped," though she was quick to clarify: "Doesn't mean these are bad destinations, I just didn't enjoy them as much as other cities."

Madrid
Following a two and a half day stay in Spain's capital after visiting Barcelona, she confessed that the coastal city had captured her affections, leaving Madrid feeling rather lacklustre by comparison.
She revealed: "The main reason is because I went to both Madrid and Barcelona on the same trip, and I feel like Madrid didn't have as many interesting things to do for me at least, other than the palace and museums. ...If I were to do this trip again, I would probably skip Madrid and spend more time in Barcelona."

Catania
Catania proved to be another destination that failed to meet Sooyeon's expectations.
Located on Sicily's eastern coastline, the ancient port city appeared to be a perfect 'Italian getaway' destination in theory, yet the reality didn't match her aspirations. Sooyeon explained: "The city just felt a little run down and not the safest. People were also not afraid to stare at you - I'm sure they weren't trying to be rude or mean, but it felt a little uncomfortable as a female traveller."

Berlin
Berlin also featured on Sooyeon's disappointing destinations list, though her concerns about the German capital differed from her gripes with Catania and Madrid. She praised Berlin's 'welcoming' atmosphere and its collection of 'cool cafes, shops and roads', yet felt something was missing.
"Don't get me wrong, I would love to live in Berlin," Sooyeon confessed. "But, as a tourist, I feel like the main attractions are history museums which I personally am not the biggest on, especially because at this point on my trip I was getting severe museum fatigue."
She also observed that the food scene was rather international, making it trickier for her to discover genuine local dishes, which stays her number one priority when travelling.

"The food scene was also pretty international, so I didn't find as many options for authentic local food, which is something I try to eat everywhere I go. Again, this is just my experience - what doesn't work for me, could work for you."
Sooyeon's honest assessments triggered a wave of reactions on TikTok, with users split over her views on these beloved locations.
One user passionately defended Madrid, declaring: "I will not accept any Madrid slander! I've been like four times and it's an incredible city."
Others rushed to defend Catania, with one person pleading: "Everyone here pls don't skip Catania," whilst another commenter challenged her assessment of Berlin's cleanliness, hitting back: "Berlin is clean? What girl?"

Motsi Mabuse speaks out on tense legal battle with ex-husband after abuse claims

Strictly Come Dancing star Motsi Mabuse has revealed her legal battle with her ex husband Timo Kulczak has finally come to an end, years after she made claims in her book Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse has revealed legal proceedings against her have come to an end after almost three years. Her ex husband Timo Kulczak launched legal action against the professional dancer in 2023. He sued her for £70,000 after she called him 'controlling' and made a series of damning allegations in her autobiography. The case went to court as Kulczak denied the claims made against him. Today, Motsi posted about a court case as she marked the end of the chapter in her life. It comes after Andy Carroll 'splits from Lou Teasdale due to her demands' weeks after public row. The TV star wrote: "After almost three years, the legal proceedings against me have now come to an end, with the court ruling in my favour. This case has been a long and challenging process, accompanied by media coverage and many articles over the years. "It has been a constant burden, and I am relieved that clarity has finally been achieved. Now I can close this chapter and focus on the future with renewed strength." She also thanked her husband, Evgenij Voznyuk, legal team and management. Motsi and Kulczak, who married in 2003, divorced in 2014 after meeting at a dance tournament. She is now married to dance partner Evgenij, with whom she has a daughter. The couple also run a dance school together in Germany. Last year, Kulczak said Motsi struggled to adapt to the 'German way' and that he had to help 'organise' her. 'For sure, the German character is different from the South African way of living," he told the Sun. "But she lived here a very long time, so she got used to it and liked how organised everything was and how things were functioning because it was organised.' Kulczak claimed the former couple had an agreement to not talk about their private lives. He alleged his dance coaching and love life had been affected by Motsi's claims in her book. 'I just wanted the apology. But at the point where you say all further communication is through legal teams, an apology is not enough any more," Kulczak said last year. Motsi is now preparing for the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing as she returns as a judge alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge Shirley Ballas. They will welcome a whole set of new celebrities onto the dancefloor in just a few weeks time. Mel Gibson shows interest in Scottish producer's historic film

Sutherland met the Braveheart star in Ireland last weekend when he was celebrating the 30th anniversary of the movie to talk about her plans to make the film. She has offered him first look at the project and now intends to travel to Italy to secure an Italian co-producer as the screenplays are set at the time of the fall of the Roman Empire. Sutherland has also been invited to meet the Irish delegation attending the Edinburgh Film Festival from Limerick to see if there is a match with them to become involved. Niall Of The Nine Hostages is a passion project by the long-time film producer, whose film Red Rose about the life of Robert Burns gained several film festival awards and went on to be translated into 12 different languages across Europe by HBO as well as being screened in Mandarin on Chinese TV. READ MORE: 'Vital' mental health art exhibition at risk due to funding cuts Sutherland's extensive track record as a producer extends to 23 independent feature films under the banner of Palm Tree Films who she worked for as an employee director for more than 20 years. She has also directed two films and written six screenplays, including Red Rose which saw Rebecca Palmer win best actress at the Monaco Film Festival in 2004. Red Rose was made without any funding from Scottish Screen (now Screen Scotland) as Sutherland was turned down 'point blank' when she approached the organisation in 2003. However, she is hopeful she will get funding to develop her new film. Her company, Sans Peur Productions Ltd, based in Dumfries and Galloway has already received a small grant for equipment from South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) to base filming in the region for its projects. 'The only problem with SOSE is that the next stage of company development does not exist in that they have large grants for companies creating manufacturing to employ lots of people but not structured grants for small businesses,' she said. Sutherland said it would help if Screen Scotland were to implement a surgery-style approach for filmmakers. 'For example, I got, and still can get, coaching sessions with SOSE who gave me advice on not just the grants they had but also on things I should aim for to grow my business,' she said. 'They have regular meetings on all sorts of subjects that are easily accessed.' Niall of the Nine Hostages, was a legendary, semi-historical Irish king who was the ancestor of the Ui Neill dynasties that dominated Ireland from the sixth to the 10th centuries. Legend has it that Niall made war in Europe as far as the Alps, and the Romans send an ambassador to parlay with him. He is also believed to have carried out raids on England, Wales and Scotland with much of the action taking place along Hadrian's wall. 'While Niall fought the Romans in the Kingdom of Brittany it seems Italy as well as Ireland are the places to check out cultural and financial opportunities,' said Sutherland. READ MORE: Isle of Raasay Marsala whisky review: 6 things you'll taste in the glass 'And since Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders are close to Hadrian's wall, where some of the action in Niall Of The Nine Hostages takes place, it seems fitting that the Scottish production base should be in that region of Scotland for now.' Mairi made an extensive location visit to Donegal in Ireland last year, when she visited the legendary historical site Greenan of Aichlech, the seat of the sons of Niall of the Nine hostages. If all goes to plan, a second production base in Ireland would be set up, pending further funding applications.

Pop duo cancel shows after scary moment sees member collapse on stage

Australian pop duo Royel Otis have been forced to take action after one member collapsed mid-performance this week. Comprising Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic, the indie musicians from Sydney were playing at the MS Dockville festival in Hamburg, Germany, when things took a worrying turn. Footage captured by fans and shared on TikTok showed Royel playing his guitar before falling to the ground with a thud. Other members of the live band rushed over to help as concerned gasps could be heard among the crowd. It was initially unknown what caused Royel to collapse, but reports claimed it happened just 15 minutes into the set. Now, issuing an update to their thousands of followers, the duo have confirmed they need to axe their next performance while he recovers from an illness. A statement shared on Instagram read: 'We are really sorry to say that we need to cancel our set at Lowlands + Pukkelpop festival as Roy has been unwell with a virus since last night's show in Hamburg.' The stars added: 'We were really looking forward to playing for you and hope we can see you at one of our other shows soon. 'Thank you for all your support always [pink heart emoji] Roy + Otis'. As news of the gig's cancellation spread, fans expressed their sadness on social media but wished the performer well. Guitar-pop duo Royel Otis have been making music together since 2019, releasing their debut EP, Campus, in 2021. Their commercial breakthrough, however, came last January, when the Grammys named Royel Otis as one of '25 Artists to Watch' that year, leading to the release of their first album, Pratts & Pain, the following month. It debuted at number one on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart. Royel Otis proceeded to gain a huge online following thanks to their viral covers, the first being of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Murder on the Dancefloor, which also charted Down Under. Then, last April, the pair covered Linger by The Cranberries, which also became a global hit thanks to social media, even reaching the Billboard Hot 100 in August. Since then, their career has only continued to thrive, as they made their US TV debut performing their tune Sofa King on Jimmy Kimmel Live last October, going on to sell over 100,000 tickets across Australia, Europe, and the US. Their success has not been without a smidge of controversy, though. In May this year, they had to issue an apology after being slammed by listeners for 'misogynistic' lyrics. Moody, released earlier that month, sparked backlash for its use of the word 'b***h'. Co-written by award-winning Amy Allen, one line reads: 'She's always givin' it to me. Late nights, she always accusin'. Last time, she said she would kill me. My girl's a b***h when she's moody'. After being blasted by their supporters for the 'cheap' dig, entertainment lawyers on behalf of Royel Otis said they were sorry for any upset caused. 'Moody has been Royel Otis' highest-performing release in the first two weeks globally, both digitally and on radio,' they said. 'This song is written from a specific perspective; it is not intended to convey a broader view or standpoint about women in general. 'We apologise if anyone understood those lyrics otherwise.' Despite the criticism, Moody became Royel Otis's first Billboard number one single. More Trending Fans might also know of member Otis because of his famous mother, multi-millionaire beauty mogul Carla Oates. He famously used to cover his face in public, having only recently started to share snaps of his face online, much to the delight of fans. On his decision to cover up, he previously told the Daily Telegraph: 'It makes it easier to pick pictures; I always look OK because you don't see this f*****g crooked nose and fat a*s head.' Royel Otis are set to release their sophomore album, Hickey, on August 22. Got a story?
