Ke'Bryan Hayes trade grades: Who won the Reds and Pirates deal?
Now? They could use some help and depth. And they got it in the form of Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes with a trade on Wednesday, nearly 24 hours before the 2025 MLB trade deadline.
It's an intriguing move for the Reds, who are in the thick of the National League Wild Card race. And as for the Pirates? Same old story: They're underachieving and need to get some prospects in the pipeline to use in the future.

The good news: Hayes is a Gold Glover who fields his position extremely well. Don't underrate that. Saving runs can be as valuable as knocking them in.
The bad news: He's a bad hitter. Like, six home runs in the past two seasons total. A career .254 average. His OPS this year is .569. Bad.
But like I said, defense wins. We'll see how the Reds deploy him, but I like this move for a team that could make noise in the Wild Card.

Pirates trade grade
Sigh. To Pirates fans, I say: Sorry this all keeps happening. But getting a top-10 prospect in the Reds' system in Stafura. Rogers? Well... I guess the Pirates can pick up the phone with a contender and offer a lefty reliever with a really good ERA. So maybe they'll deal him again before Thursday's deadline.
Overall? Seems... fine.
