Organizers explained the Citroën DS exhibit: "This year, for our exhibition's 49th anniversary, we decided to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Citroën DS in an original if not slightly unusual way. Through its place in automotive history, this vehicle called for a stroke of folly. Under our partnership with DS Automobiles, we wanted to shine a light on a previously less-publicized episode in the career of the DS.
"In 1959, Claude Puech, the French brand's adman, dreamt up a promotional campaign showcasing the benefits of the car's hydropneumatic suspension, replacing the wheels with four inflated balls. At Retromobile, we made our slightly eccentric dream come true by not only making it this year's key visual and giving it center stage, but also by recreating it. Starting from a car wreck, GARAC—the automotive professions academy—has conducted its mission with enthusiasm and determination.
"Since September last year, 30 young students from the training college, supervised by the teaching staff, have taken turns during the week and even at weekends to give a new lease of life to the DS Balloons in time for the show. But that's not all, because since one stroke of folly often provokes another, we had to give this model a worthy backdrop of the cause. This is what brought us to strike a deal with Régis Mathieu, the founder of the chandelier company bearing his name. Deservedly renowned for his know-how, this 'magician of light' offers you a visiting experience the like of which has never been seen before at an exhibition."
Jean-Claude Olivier (28 February 1945 – 12 January 2013), often referred to simply as "JCO," was a French motorcycle racer and president of Yamaha Motor France SA from 1992 to 2010. He helped launch the careers of many famous French riders including Stéphane Peterhansel. He was a veteran of nine editions of the Dakar Rally, placing second in the motorcycle category in 1985.
Olivier was president of Yamaha Motor France SA until he retired in 2010.

The Renault Filante Record 2025 is a battery-electric streamliner used to develop new technologies—and maybe set a land speed record for EVs. This wild machine uses an 87-kWh battery pack, which has the same capacity as the Scenic E-Tech SUV. The Filante Record 2025 streamliner takes inspiration from the 40 CV Des Records from 1925-26, Nervasport Des Records from 1934, and Etoile Filante from 1956.

Lewis Hamilton returns to Silverstone in last chance saloon for first Ferrari year
If you'd told Lewis Hamilton four months ago, amid the hoopla of Formula One's biggest-ever driver move, that he would be 'hoping and praying' for a strong result at his beloved Silverstone, he'd likely have laughed you out of the room. Either that or he'd have rolled his eyes. Take your pick. After all, this was the seven-time F1 world champion moving to the fabled Ferrari. A driver in need of rejuvenation after three years of frustration at Mercedes was joining a team seemingly on the up, having come within a whisker of last year's constructors' title. Everything seemed perfectly aligned. With the whole world watching, what could possibly go wrong? Well, come race 12 and the halfway stage of the 2025 season, the answer is unavoidable: pretty much everything. It has been an eye-opening, gut-wrenching opening salvo for the 40-year-old in red. From amateurish radio communications and irritation in the rain of Australia in round one to an overwhelming lack of car performance throughout, Hamilton has endured his worst-ever start to an F1 season. Even for the greatest of pessimists, this was not in the forecast. Eleven races, zero podiums. Sixth in the world championship, closer to the bottom of the standings than the top. Never mind winning, Hamilton is now on the longest podium-less streak of his career, at 13, stretching back to Las Vegas last November. As ever, it makes this weekend's British Grand Prix a significant marker in his season. A venue he has won at nine times, and been on the podium for 11 consecutive years, represents Hamilton's best chance to smell the Moet & Chandon champagne once more. Of course, his fond memories here come as recently as last year, when he broke a 31-month winless streak with a memorable and brilliant victory. If it's going to happen anywhere for Hamilton in 2025, it's going to be this weekend. 'There is always magic here at Silverstone,' he said, with an optimistic outlook, at media day on Thursday. 'It is a very, very special race and I am hoping all sorts of things can help us. I am hoping and praying. 'I cannot wait for Friday. Driving a Ferrari at Silverstone for the first time will be special and unique in its own way. We have the best fans here, and for a British driver, they really do make a difference. 'I have shown that to you time and time again. I hope this weekend they really make the difference for us.' HAMILTON'S FIRST 11 RACES IN 2025 Sixth in the championship standings - 91 points 28 points and one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc (three podiums to zero) Leclerc 9-4 Hamilton in qualifying; average advantage of 0.151 seconds Zero podiums Hamilton is accurate to some extent: his best displays do come in front of the British fans, of which we can anticipate a modicum more to come decked in scarlet over the next three days. In fact, amid a full schedule which for the first time includes British F4 alongside F3, F2 and F1, Silverstone organisers are hoping to have a record 500,000 people attend. Lando Norris even has his own 10,000-capacity 'Landostand' at Stowe corner, beating Hamilton and George Russell in the British popularity rankings. Yet relying on the fans in the grandstands is not the customary route to results in Formula 1; a sport where the drivers genuinely struggle to hear the noise generated by the supporters, given the scorching sound of the V6 hybrid engine. The biggest nadir so far, unquestionably, was a contrasting second round in China. All looked rosy when Hamilton took pole for the shortened sprint race and, without a serious challenge, cruised to victory. Yet 24 hours later, both Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc's cars had been disqualified. For team principal Fred Vasseur, it was an embarrassing state of affairs. We've even had boredom: Hamilton has regularly been running on his own in races, too quick for the midfield pack but too slow to compete at the top. 'Where is Lewis?' says the hypothetical fan switching on Sky Sports F1 mid-race. 'No man's land,' is often the riposte. But this weekend, there is hope. Ferrari unveiled a much-needed upgrade to the floor of their car at the last race in Austria and were the second-quickest team. A further development of the rear suspension is expected this weekend. It feels like something of a last-chance saloon for the Scuderia, as teams up and down the grid begin to turn their full attention to new regulations next year. Yet, more crucial than car modifications, as so often is the case in Northamptonshire, rain is in the air on Sunday. 'We are not as quick as McLaren,' Hamilton said. 'If it stays dry, they will walk the race.' But if it rains, nobody masters a wet-dry conflux like Hamilton around these parts. A win may still be out of the question – though championship frontrunners Norris and Oscar Piastri have already shown that mistakes and collisions are possible – but a podium feels obtainable. Yet for Hamilton, historical statistics are not what he's here for; he simply wants to see progress. A lot of progress. 'I don't look at those (podium) statistics, so it is not something that affects me or I think about,' Hamilton said. 'But we are here at Silverstone. What better place to change that run?'

Lewis Hamilton eyes key Ferrari F1 breakthrough after testing in Mugello
Lewis Hamilton is testing a new rear suspension on this year's Ferrari F1 car in Mugello today. Hamilton, as well as teammate Charles Leclerc, will drive the SF-25 car around the Italian circuit on Thursday, in addition to a session on Wednesday, as both drivers eye a breakthrough in car performance at the halfway stage of the 2025 season. Both will take to the cockpit on Thursday, with a total of 200km of running allowed as per F1's rules as part of a 'filming day'. Ferrari hope that the new suspension, alongside a new floor upgrade at round 11 in Austria, will extract more performance from a car, which is yet to win a race this year. The Scuderia believe the new suspension will help the car be less sensitive to various ride heights, opening up more set-up options for qualifying and the race. The added benefit of this week's testing session comes ahead of next week's Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, which is also a sprint event, meaning there will be just one practice session. Hamilton is yet to finish on the podium in a grand prix, with three best-place finishes of fourth, including at his home race last time out in Silverstone. Leclerc, meanwhile, has finished on the podium four times but is yet to taste victory. Neither driver has recorded a pole position, either. The three teams to have won race so far this season are McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes. Want Max Verstappen, Toto? Then make a blockbuster George Russell partnership work for F1
Sitting in the sole shaded area on the roof of Mercedes' hospitality unit in Abu Dhabi, George Russell was agitated. Not sobbing or crying. Frustrated. Angry, even. The media roundtable, seemingly a routine recap of Russell's 2024 season, had taken a turn. The Max Verstappen topic had come up. 'People have been bullied by Max for years now,' Russell said. 'You can't question his driving abilities. But he cannot deal with adversity.' Advertisement Speaking a few days after a tense Qatar Grand Prix weekend, Russell claimed Verstappen had threatened to 'put me on my f***ing head in the wall' after receiving a one-place grid penalty, costing the Red Bull driver pole. Verstappen thought Russell had screwed him over by making a scene to the stewards. Russell felt he had to take a stand against Verstappen in Abu Dhabi the following week. Given how passionately Russell had spoken — and, more tellingly, his body language — this appeared to be a relationship fractured beyond repair. They already had a lengthy history of clashing, then Verstappen's collision with Russell in Spain this year only seemed to confirm this status. But how about a future Mercedes driver line-up comprising Russell and Verstappen? Implausible, right? Well, so much is in F1. Verstappen's future will be the story in F1 over the next six weeks, the height of the driver market 'silly season.' He is under contract at Red Bull through to 2028, but the Dutchman has dodged opportunities to confirm he will be racing there next season. Christian Horner's sudden departure eases the tension that lingered with Verstappen's father, Jos, but considering hopes of defending his championship faded months ago, and Red Bull has failed to improve its car, it would be understandable if Max was considering a move. Over at Mercedes, Russell is yet to receive a new contract despite putting in some of his best career performances, including a win in Canada last month. He is set to become a free agent in 2025 and, by his own account, the reason for the hold-up is the possibility of Mercedes signing Verstappen. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff was coy when he faced a media grilling two races ago about his interest in Verstappen, having maintained he wouldn't 'flirt' outside the team without his existing drivers knowing the score. He acknowledged that 'people talk' and 'explore,' and noted 'you can flirt, or you (can) have conversations.' The following day, when speaking to Sky Sports, Wolff said there is 'very little probability' Verstappen will race for Mercedes in 2026. Advertisement As long as there is some probability, though, it's worth exploring. Verstappen is the greatest driver of his generation. Some of his performances this year, especially at Suzuka and Imola, have been stunning. It would be folly not to know at least the lay of the land as Wolff looks to the future. If Verstappen and Mercedes pushed ahead with a deal, Wolff would then have some tough decisions to make. The working assumption is Russell would be the one to pay the price, not least because of their quarrel — but what if, sensationally, Wolff tried to make it work with Verstappen and Russell? It's difficult to understand why Russell hasn't already received an extension at Mercedes. He is performing better than ever and is deeply underrated as one of F1's top performers. Russell defeated Hamilton in two of their three seasons as teammates (and pretty comprehensively last year) and has made the most of a Mercedes car package that is a far cry from its dominant best of past seasons. As Russell noted when speaking to The Athletic in April, had his time come a few years earlier, he might already have a couple of championships. Russell is also the first success story of Mercedes' modern young driver program and has delivered consistently, with so much time, money and effort invested into his career by Mercedes. A lot of the spotlight has shifted to Mercedes' latest junior product, Kimi Antonelli. At 18 and only just possessing a road license, Antonelli faced a lot of pressure as Hamilton's replacement for 2025. It was a gamble by Wolff, but a show of faith in a talent he believes could become F1's next great. The next Verstappen, even. Antonelli has made a good start to his F1 career, becoming the third-youngest podium finisher in the sport's history in Canada, but that has been the only recent bright spot from a tricky run, which includes a big mistake when he took out Verstappen on the first lap in Austria. Advertisement The head-to-head stats fall overwhelmingly in Russell's favor, too. He has scored 147 points to Antonelli's 63, has nine top-five finishes to Antonelli's two, and five podiums to Antonelli's one. Their qualifying head-to-head reads 9-1 in Russell's favor, with an average gap of 0.345 seconds. Other rookies, such as Ollie Bearman at Haas and Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto, are already on a par with their more experienced teammates. Antonelli is not only a rookie, but an 18-year-old rookie in just his fourth full season of car racing, so leeway is needed. And Mercedes' faith in him remains strong. 'He's a great driver,' Wolff said after the race at Silverstone. 'There's a reason we took him.' A Verstappen/Antonelli line-up would be exceptionally exciting, no doubt, but the 'best' on-paper Mercedes line-up would surely be Verstappen and Russell. The real question is whether it could work in reality. Both Verstappen and Russell feel they can take on any teammate and win. The likelihood is that margins between them would be extremely fine, giving Wolff a possible headache to manage should Mercedes regain its status as F1's leading team. The current McLaren model of a friendly fight for the drivers' championship is rare, something Wolff discovered in his experience dealing with Hamilton and Nico Rosberg's explosive rivalry from 2014 to 2016. Wolff has always been reluctant to point the finger at Verstappen, be it after Qatar last year (he instead took aim at Horner, calling him a 'yapping little terrier') or in Spain this year, saying he couldn't fathom the Dutchman's move being deliberate. There's a clear respect for Verstappen and a private belief that with better management, incidents could have been avoided. But what about Antonelli? He has the label of F1's next big thing, but even that status means there would be no shortage of teams showing an interest in taking him on loan. He could keep his Mercedes ties, just as Russell did while at Williams, and hone his racecraft down the grid. Advertisement There have been many examples of such loans in F1 history and it would also clarify the Mercedes succession plan. This is all hypothetical. Wolff has been clear that the chances of a move for Verstappen are low, and the ramifications of Horner's exit from Red Bull will only be known in the coming weeks, starting soon at Spa. Mercedes also remains in a very strong place for the future if the existing lineup of Russell and Antonelli continues beyond this year, with the former getting a short-term extension still the most likely scenario. 'The likelihood I'm not at Mercedes next year is exceptionally low,' Russell said at Silverstone. But if everything adds up — Verstappen available for 2026 and Mercedes serious about a swoop — then Wolff should double down and go for a true blockbuster line-up. Whatever the consequences.
