Rampant Bulls humble Sharks in one-sided Currie Cup clash
The Bulls delivered a dominant display to dismantle the Sharks in a one-sided Currie Cup clash at Loftus Versfeld.
Phiwe Nomlomo's side started strong and never let up. Hooker Juann Else opened the scoring from a powerful lineout maul, before prop Dylan Smith followed with a near-identical try just minutes later. The Bulls were 14-0 up within 10 minutes.
The Sharks showed some defensive fight midway through the first half, holding up Jeandre Rudolph over the line, but they couldn't stop the flood for long. Centre Chris Smit scored back-to-back tries to break the game open.
Else then grabbed his second from yet another lineout drive, and fullback Boeta Chamberlain nailed his fifth straight conversion to give the Bulls a 35-0 lead at the break.
There was no let-up after half-time. Rudolph finally got on the scoreboard two minutes into the second half before winger Stravino Jacobs carved through the defence with a 50-metre sprint for the Bulls' seventh try.
Rudolph crossed again soon after to take the score past 50. Replacement Cornel Smit added the ninth try, and debutant JJ Theron wrapped things up late on to complete the 10-try rout.
The result sent the Bulls to the top of the Currie Cup log with 10 points from two matches, edging ahead of the Lions on points difference.
For the defending champion Sharks, the result was a humbling blow. They failed to fire in any area and now sit bottom of the table after two rounds.
Next weekend, the Bulls will look to continue their form against the Pumas at home, while the struggling Sharks host the Cheetahs in Durban.

Bulls coach Nomlomo feels veteran scrumhalf Schreuder has added touch of class to Cavaliers
Nippy winger Riyaad Bam scored the only try for the Bulls during their Currie Cup defeat to the Pumas in Pretoria. Bulls Currie Cup coach Phiwe Nomlomo feels veteran scrumhalf Louis Schreuder's return from Bath in the Premiership is helping knit together an already fearsome Boland Cavaliers backline. The Bulls face their high-riding 'brothers' – Bulls owners Johann Rupert and Patrice Motsepe are also majority shareholders in Boland – in round four of the competition at Boland Rugby Stadium in Wellington on Sunday (3pm kick-off). The hosts are fresh off a 29-10 bonus-point win against the Lions in round three in Wellington that increased their chances of making the Currie Cup play-offs. The Bulls are still smarting from a 41-7 humbling by the Pumas at home after two convincing wins. The two teams are joined on 11 points by log leaders the Pumas. 'Boland are pretty sharp,' Nomlomo said during an online media conference on Tuesday afternoon. 'Louis Schreuder came on at nine and he's a seasoned campaigner. He's literally just won the championship with Bath and now he comes in, so he'll be a massive help from that perspective.'

BREAKING: Kaizer Chiefs unveil Asanele Velebayi!
Kaizer Chiefs have officially unvailed Asanele Velebayi as their newest signing for the current transfer window. Velebayi joins Amakhosi on a free transfer following his departure from Cape Town Spurs. The speedy winger was most recently involved in a contractual dispute with Spurs on the back of their relegation to the ABC Motsepe League. However, as reported by The South African, the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (PSL DRC) ruled in his favour, declaring him a free agent, and thus, giving him the green light to sign for Chiefs. The deal between Chiefs and Velebayi was long concluded, but the Soweto giants couldn't do anything until the player had his clearance. Salmaan Moerat set to miss Springboks' matches as Western Province sweat over Zain Davids
While Western Province are still sweating over the fitness of captain and flanker Zain Davids ahead of their match against the Cheetahs, it also looks like they will be without Springbok Salmaan Moerat for the remainder of the Currie Cup. On Monday, Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus revealed that Moerat was set to make his first appearance for Western Province in the Currie Cup this weekend in Bloemfontein. However, the Bok lock suffered a knee injury at training and is now doubtful for the rest of Province's domestic campaign, as well as the Springboks' Rugby Championship matches. Moerat is one of a handful of Springboks outside the current squad who were sent back to their unions to get some game time in the Currie Cup. But Erasmus let slip that Moerat is currently sidelined. 'We've cut the squad a little bit, but when we have meetings, we've still got guys like Jaden [Hendrikse], Faf [de Klerk], Mapiemps (Makazole Mapimpi) joining virtually. Salmaan, unfortunately, got injured last week. He would have played this week [for Western Province in the Currie Cup],' said Erasmus.
