Garcia, who has won 11 titles in her career, first reached the No. 4 spot in September 2018, however, following several inconsistent years filled with doubts and injuries, she took a break from tennis in March 2022 to recover from a foot injury.
The pause proved beneficial as she enjoyed a successful second half of the season, winning several titles, including the WTA Finals, and reaching the semifinals at the U.S. Open.
Two years ago, Garcia revealed in an interview that she struggled with bulimia for a period, triggered by losses and the pain from her lingering foot injury, which affected her daily life.
Garcia, who missed the Wimbledon due to a back injury, was shown the exit door early in the French Open 2025 as she wet down to Bernarda Pera in her opening fixture at the fabled red clay of the Roland Garros.

Canadian Open 2025: Teenager Mboko books spot in final after beating Rybakina

Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko rallied to reach the Canadian Open 2025 final, beating ninth-seeded Elena Rybakina 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) on Wednesday night. The 18-year-old Mboko dropped to the court after Rybakina's shot sailed long on match point as the crowd — lined with 'Allez Vicky' — erupted. Mboko saved a match point in the third set and broke Rybakina twice to force the tiebreaker. 'Incredible match, thank you to everyone for supporting me. It was really difficult, but anything can happen,' Mboko told the crowd in French. On Thursday night, she'll face Japanese star Naomi Osaka, a 6-2, 7-6 (7) winner over 16th-seeded Clara Tauson of Denmark in the second semifinal. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Congolese parents, Mboko grew up in Toronto. She upset top-seeded Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday to reach the quarterfinals, then topped Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2 on Monday. At 2 hours, 46 minutes, the match on Wednesday was the longest of Mboko's short tour career. Mboko overcame 11 double-faults and battled through a wrist injury after stumbling awkwardly to the ground in the second game of the third set. She'll will move up to at least 34th in the world after starting the year outside the top 300.

'Rishabh Pant Sent Voice Note, Shubman Gill Said...': What India Stars Told Chris Woakes After Horrific Injury

Last Updated: Chris Woakes' heroic effort to bat with an injured shoulder in the fifth Test against India will be remembered. Despite his efforts, India won by six runs. The image of Chris Woakes walking in to bat with his left hand in a sling and hidden inside a jumper on the fifth day of the fifth Test between India and England will remain etched in the memory for some time to come. With England nine down and ever so close to what would've gone down as one of their finest victories and more importantly given them a 3-1 series triumph, an incapacitated Woakes attempted one last push to help his team get over the line. Alas, it wasn't meant to be even though the final few moments proved to be a painful experience for the England allrounder. India would go on to win the contest by six runs with Woakes not facing a single delivery but being asked to run by his batting partner Gus Atkinkson four times. Despite an injured shoulder, that popped out on the opening day of the Test itself while Woakes was attempting to save a boundary, he ran as naturally as one would when fully fit with 'instinct" taking over. The result? Woakes was in pain and after the first run, he even feared that the shoulder may have popped out again. Fortunately, it wasn't the case. Woakes was hailed for his heroic attempt. Every member of the Indian team ensured to acknowledge him with India captain Shubman Gill calling his decision to bat despite the pain 'incredibly brave". 'Shubman said something like: 'That was incredibly brave'" Woakes told The Guardian. 'I told him: 'You've had an unbelievable series, well played, and credit to your team.'" Before Woakes, Rishabh Pant had also braved a broken foot to resume batting during the Manchester Test. Incidentally, Pant had injured his foot while attempting to reverse-sweep a low full toss from Woakes. Though Pant managed to bat at Old Trafford, the injury did rule him out of the series finale. The India wicketkeeper-batter appreciated Woakes' for his gutsy display and the Englishman replied in kind. 'I saw Rishabh had put an image of me on Instagram with a salute emoji, so I replied thanking him: 'Appreciate the love and hope the foot is OK' etc. He then sent me a voice note saying: 'I hope all is OK, good luck with the recovery and I hope we meet again out there some day.' I obviously said sorry for the broken foot." Despite the fiery exchanges on the field, once the drama ended, the two opponents exchanged smiles and pleasantries. They praised each other for the titanic efforts that made the series one of the most memorable ones of recent times. view comments First Published: August 07, 2025, 09:17 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Peacock Meets Hen, Sparks Fly — But Their ‘Love Child' Steals The Show!

Last Updated: A viral video claiming a peacock and a hen have produced unusual offspring has captured social media's attention, but experts urge caution There is so rhyme or reason as to what goes viral on social media and why. A recent viral video shows chicks hatching from a hen's eggs, with one chick appearing to have vibrant, iridescent tail feathers of a peacock. With bodies shaped like ordinary chicks but flamboyant plumage, this chick has quickly captured the internet's imagination, and the sight has sparked laughter across the internet. While many viewers were entertained, the authenticity of the video is under scrutiny. News18 could not confirm the video's veracity, and many experts strongly suspect it has been digitally manipulated or staged. The most likely explanation? Someone has playfully attached peacock feathers to an ordinary chick to create a funny and shareable clip. Can Peacocks And Hens Reproduce? Scientifically speaking, peacocks (Pavo cristatus) and hens (Gallus gallus domesticus) are entirely different species, making natural crossbreeding virtually impossible. Experts universally agree that such a union would not produce offspring. Although the video is clearly humorous, it highlights how easily manipulated content spreads online. One user quipped, 'Peacock Bhaiya wooed the hen and this is the result! Even nature jokes!", a nod to the absurdity of it all. In an age of deepfakes and advanced editing, it's a timely reminder to question what we see before accepting it as truth. Though meant for entertainment, amid the era of video trickery, we must pause, laugh, and then look closer. Not everything that spreads online is as it seems. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
