Aamir Khan Feels Dhoom 3 Could Have Been Better: ‘Aditya Chopra Ne Galti Ki'
Last Updated:
Aamir Khan revealed the original plot of Dhoom 3, and said that Abhishek Bachchan's onscreen wife Rimi Sen aka Sweety Dixit was supposed to return in the film.
Dhoom 3, written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra, was released in 2013. The film starred Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Katrina Kaif. However, did you know the film was supposed to have another important character? During an interview with Mashable, Aamir shared that Abhishek Bachchan's onscreen wife, Rimi Sen aka Sweety Dixit, was intended to return in Dhoom 3. However, producer Aditya Chopra and writer-director Vijay Krishna Acharya decided otherwise.
Aamir said that he felt Dhoom 3 could have been better because it originally included the character of Jai Dixit's wife, Sweety, from the first two films. 'Dhoom 3 behtar better ho sakti thi. Kyunki usme ek kirdaar tha jo Jai Dixit ki wife ka role hai, Sweety ka, jo 1 and 2 mein hai, woh character original script mein hai. Adi aur Victor ko laga woh zaruri nahi hai toh unhone nikaal diya, shoot hi nahi kiya. Mere hisaab se woh unhone galati ki. Abhi toh wife ka character hi nahi hai naa. Original mein yeh tha wife jo hai woh usko divorce dene waali hai. Start usse hi hota hai. (Dhoom 3 could have been better. There was a character — Jai Dixit's wife, Sweety — who was in parts 1 and 2, and she was in the original script too. But Adi and Victor felt she wasn't necessary, so they removed her — didn't even shoot those scenes. In my opinion, that was a mistake. Now, there's no mention of his wife at all. In the original script, the story began with his wife wanting to divorce him)."
Aamir further explained that Sweety's character was frustrated because her husband, a Mumbai Police officer, neglected her and missed important occasions like Karva Chauth and her birthday. He described how Abhishek's character would try to win her back by promising her a honeymoon they had never taken. However, Jai would then receive an urgent message about a new case in Chicago, creating a dilemma.
At the airport, before leaving for his honeymoon, Jai would meet the police commissioner in the washroom to get briefed on the case. After the interval, Jai would be removed from the case in the film. But in the original script, his honeymoon and the case were meant to end simultaneously, revealed Aamir. There was a twist where Sweety knew all along that Jai was on a case and urged him not to return home until he caught the thief. Aamir believed this backstory would have helped viewers connect emotionally with Jai's character.
For the unversed, Dhoom 3 is the third installment in the popular action-crime franchise Dhoom. Directed and co-written by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film stars Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Siddharth Nigam, and Jackie Shroff in key roles.

Aamir Khan 's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' which released on Friday, June 20 picked up extremely well over the weekend with positive word of mouth. But as expected it saw a major drop on Monday. But now how it sustains all through the week will play a huge role in determining the film's fate. 'Sitaare Zameen Par' though, has surpassed expectations and despite being a niche film and not like a 'Ghajini' or 'Dangal', the film has managed to create a dent at the box office. Sitaare Zameen Par Movie Review On Friday, the film collected Rs 10.7 crore. Meanwhile, on Saturday, it saw a growth of around 88.79 percent and made Rs 20.2 crore. On Sunday, it saw a further jump of 34.90 percent according to Sacnilk and made Rs 27.25 crore. From that, the film saw a major drop on Monday and made Rs 8.5 crore. The total collection of the movie now stands at Rs 68.06 crore. It's expected to cross Rs 75 crore by the end of the day. The film is doing better in multiplexes than single screens. According to Box Office India, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' has also done well in territories like Rajasthan and Gujarat where usually Aamir films don't do well. So, it's an encouraging sign. But one hopes that it continues to hold well all through the week and also on the second weekend. On May 27, Kajol starrer 'Maa' releases, which is a mythological horror film. It may give competition to 'Sitaare Zameen Par' if it garners good reviews.
