Ex-Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette burgled as thieves steal cash and jewellery
Alexandre Lacazette was saying farewell to his boyhood club Lyon and had a send-off to remember with two goals against Angers, but the game was bittersweet as his home was been raided by robbers while he was playing
Former Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette was the victim of a burglary while playing his final game for Lyon this weekend, according to reports in France. The 33-year-old had a farewell to remember as he netted a brace in a 2-0 win over Angers, first from the penalty spot before tapping home a second.
It was the perfect way for Lacazette to say goodbye as he was lauded by fans, but his special night was quickly marred as he later discovered his home had been raided by robbers while he was on the pitch.
French outlet Le Progres claims Lacazette's house was broken into around half an hour after Lyon's game kicked off at 9pm local time, with two robbers involved. The house was empty at the time and the men managed to get inside through a service shaft.
The thieves are said to have accessed a safe inside his property in Lyon's fifth district and taken jewellery and cash - with the total value of good stolen said to be worth tens of thousands of pounds.
The two men were captured on CCTV footage after the break-in was reported at around 1.30am in the morning, with police now launching an investigation.
Footballers in Lyon have often been victims of burglary after stars Karl Toko-Ekambi, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Dejan Lovren had their homes raided in 2022. The following year, left-back Nicolas Tagliafico saw his garden broken into by thieves before entering his home.
Lacazette's own experience comes during what should be a happy time as he reflects on making 391 appearances for Lyon, scoring 201 times across two spells.
He started his career with the club as a teenager before joining Arsenal in 2017, where he scored 71 goals in 206 games before returning to Lyon in 2022.
At his last game, fans honoured him with a huge tifo of the player at the Angers game before his team-mates gave him a guard of honour - clapping as he walked under an arch that read "Merci Alex".
Lacazette will leave as a free agent and has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League after reportedly rejecting their advances last summer.

Humiliated golf star racks up a 12 at the RBC Canadian Open in disastrous opening hole
French ace Matthieu Pavon suffered the nightmare in Toronto but incredibly it isn't the worst score on a hole this year Mashed-up Matthieu Pavon was left devastated after carding a disastrous 12 at the RBC Canadian Open. The French star suffered the calamity on the opening hole, the 10th on the course, of his second round at TPC Toronto. Pavon's anguish began with a wild tee shot into trouble and, having got his ball back into play, he hit a fourth into the water. The 32-year-old reloaded and promptly hit his sixth into the drink before doing exactly the same again with his eighth after yet another penalty drop. Pavon finally managed to get his 10th shot onto the putting surface before taking two-putts to sign for a dozen. Such is golf, the shattered star bounced back with two straight birdies, but the damage was well and truly done. It was painful for Pavon, but he did go one better than William Mouw, who ended up with a 13 during his second round of The American Express in January. He made an octuple-bogey, tripped up by the notorious 18-foot-deep greenside bunker. It took him 13 shots to play the famed par five, most of which were caught by TV cameras. Mouw said: 'I'm definitely not the first to get captured by the bunker and make a big number and I certainly won't be the last.' Thierry Henry's warning to Arsenal and Chelsea over signing 'amazing' £60m star
Hugo Ekitike, a top transfer target for Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, can be a 'frustrating' player Thierry Henry has warned. The three Premier League giants are all in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, with Arsenal's need for a prolific goalscorer well-documented. Chelsea have already signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town but would be interested in adding another striker to their roster, which could well spell the end for Nicolas Jackson's time at Stamford Bridge. As for Liverpool, it has long been clear that Darwin Nunez is not in Arne Slot's plans with the Uruguayan likely to leave Anfield. Ekitike is a name on all of their radars following an explosive season at Eintracht Frankfurt where he recorded 34 goal contributions in 48 games across all competitions. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. Valued at £60million, the striker has been coached at France youth level by Arsenal legend Henry, who, according to Micah Richards, likes what he sees – but there is a caveat. 'In terms of Ekitike, I've spoken to Thierry Henry about him a lot,' Manchester City hero Richards told The Rest is Football podcast. 'He says he's not [necessarily] a frustrating player, but one minute he looks amazing and the next minute he doesn't really do the basics very well. 'But he said if he gets it right and improves then his ceiling could be very, very high.' Reports suggest Chelsea are leading the race for Ekitike, who turns 23 in June and that actually might be a good thing for Liverpool, as Richards isn't certain he's the right fit for the Reds. Appearances: 48 Goals: 22 Minutes per goal: 166 Assists: 12 He added: 'It depends on how they want to play. Do they want a striker who can stretch or they do they want a striker who is going to come to feet and interlink play? 'Ekitike is not bad on the ball but he's more of a stretch striker than a [Roberto] Firmino coming in deep and linking play. More Trending 'Where does Florian Wirtz fit into that? Where does Dominik Szoboszlai fit into that? Where does Luis Diaz potentially fit into that. If they get Wirtz I think they may be looking for more a player who can drop and Diaz can play a little bit deeper. He played a lot as a No.9 this season. 'But talent wise he's definitely got enough to add to this Liverpool side.' Wirtz seems primed to join Liverpool but only if the Reds meet Bayer Leverkusen's £120m asking price and it's possible the attacking midfielder could be deployed as a centre-forward under Slot. Additionally, Benjamin Sesko appears to be Mikel Arteta's first-choice with talks between Arsenal and RB Leipzig progressing well, all of which could clear the way for Chelsea to sign Ekitike. Piers Morgan reacts to Ange Postecoglou's 'inevitable' Spurs sacking
Spurs confirmed the bombshell decision to sack Ange Postecoglou on Friday with infamous Arsenal fan Piers Morgan having reacted to the announcement with a short message on social media Piers Morgan has joked that Ange Postecoglou 's sacking was 'inevitable' once he won the Europa League. The Australian was brutally dismissed by Spurs on Friday just over two weeks after ending the North London side's trophy drought. Postecoglou's side narrowly beat Premier League rivals Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao - securing them their first trophy in 17 years. Despite that, chairman Daniel Levy has opted for a change due to their rotten Premier League form. Arsenal fan Morgan has reacted, jokingly suggesting that the success Postecoglou brought to the club has led to his departure. Writing on Twitter, he said: 'Inevitable… can't have a Spurs manager who actually wins European trophies.' Despite that claim, Spurs have explained exactly why they decided to show Postecoglou the door - their disappointing Premier League campaign being a major factor. A statement on Friday read: 'The Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place. 'Following a positive start in the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, we recorded 78 points from the last 66 PL games. This culminated in our worst-ever PL finish last season. 'At times there were extenuating circumstances - injuries and then a decision to prioritise our European campaign. Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club's greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph. 'It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond. This has been one of the toughest decisions we have had to make and is not a decision that we have taken lightly, nor one we have rushed to conclude. We have made what we believe is the right decision to give us the best chance of success going forward, not the easy decision.' Tottenham are now on the hunt for Postecoglou's eventual replacement, with Thomas Frank having been earmarked as one of the favourites for the job. But a deal for the Brentford tactician looks tricky. He has a £10m release clause written into his deal with the Bees and it remains to be seen whether Spurs would be willing to activate that having already paid out £5m in a severance package to end Postecoglou's time at the helm.
