NYPD officers line streets to honor colleague killed in Park Ave shooting
Officer Didarul Islam was one of four people killed inside the building on Monday evening. Islam, a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh, was a father of two whose wife is pregnant with their third child.
On Thursday, services for Islam began with a viewing at Parkchester Jame Masjid, a mosque in the Bronx.
Officers in dress uniform lined up four rows deep in front of the mosque before viewings began.
The viewings on Thursday will be followed by a prayer service. Islam will then be buried at a cemetery in Totowa, New Jersey.
Islam was off duty, working security for the building when he was killed. The office building housed both Blackstone, an investment firm, and the NFL headquarters, among other companies.
Islam served as a school safety agent before becoming a patrol officer less than four years ago. He was assigned to a precinct in the Bronx, where he lived with his wife and two sons.
"He was doing the job that we asked him to do," Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. "He put himself in harm's way. He made the ultimate sacrifice. He died as he lived. A hero."
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a former NYPD officer, met with Islam's family and attended the dignified transfer of the slain officer. Adams said that Islam "embodies what this city is all about. He's a true blue New Yorker, not only in the uniform he wore."
Police have identified the gunman as 27-year-old Shane Tamura. Tamura, a Las Vegas resident with a history of mental health issues, began shooting in the lobby before moving to another floor and later turning the gun on himself.

Chiefs' Rashee Rice gives update on suspension timeline, length
The expectation is that Rashee Rice will be suspended. But when that suspension from the NFL is coming, or for how long it'll be, have yet to be determined for the Kansas City Chiefs' star wide receiver. Rice spoke to ESPN's Nate Taylor on Saturday about the potential punishment for speeding to cause a chain-reaction crash that injured multiple people. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation. On the NFL suspension, Rice said: "Honestly, it's still in the works. My legal team is handling that. All I can do is focus on what I can control right now, and that's me doing what I do best right here on the field." Denzel Perryman's arrest on felony gun charges could shake up Chargers' defensive plans
Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman remained behind bars Saturday after he was taken into custody on weapons charges, authorities said. Los Angeles Sheriff's deputies said multiple guns were discovered during a traffic stop Friday. At least two of the guns found are classified as assault weapons, according to law enforcement. "On August 1, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., South Los Angeles Station deputies conducted a traffic stop on Los Angeles Chargers football player Denzel Perryman, 32, for vehicle code violations," the sheriff's department said in a statement. "During the traffic stop, deputies discovered five firearms in Mr. Perryman's vehicle, two of which were assault-style rifles." The NFL veteran was cooperative with authorities during the traffic stop, according to an incident report. Perryman was booked on felony charges shortly after 10 p.m., records say. He is being held without bond at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station, the sheriff's department confirmed. Ron Butler, Perryman's agent, said the Pro Bowl defender was in contact with legal experts. "Denzel and our team are still gathering information and working closely with legal counsel," Butler told ESPN. "While I can't speak to the details at this time, we're confident things will be handled appropriately through the legal process." Perryman is scheduled to appear at Inglewood Court Tuesday, the sheriff's department said. "We are aware of a matter involving Denzel and are gathering information," the team said in a statement.
