The Best Used SUVs You Can Score for Under $30,000
But which used SUVs stand out above all the rest? You'd be surprised at how many options you have if you're looking for one on somewhat of a budget. It's all about doing the necessary footwork before you sign the line on your new car.
To bring you this list, we searched for the top-rated SUVs under $30,000 on various automotive websites like Autotrader, Cars.com, and Edmunds.
We stuck with those with 75,000 miles or less and found several that hit the mark and can be found at dealerships. Best of all, these SUVs aren't ancient. Many are just a few years old, but the cost savings are astronomical.
The Kia Telluride is designed with space in mind, with three rows of seating and ample cargo room. It was lauded as Edmunds' top-rated SUV for two years with an overall 4.1 rating by owners.
Our search turned up a number of the 2020 and 2021 Tellurides for sale in the mid-$20,000s. Most had fewer than 50,000 miles on them, and some even had the original warranty in place.
The Honda CR-V debuted in 1997, but has remained one of the consistent top sellers for the manufacturer. The 2022 model has an overall 4.5 rating and can be picked up for around $25,000, depending on your locale.
It's well touted for its safety features and roominess, as well as the driver assist features included in all trims.
This is probably one of the bigger SUVs on our list, but it has plenty of room, even if it only offers two rows of seating. Our search turned up several 2022 models in the $25,000 range, many with 50,000 or fewer miles.
The NHTSA has ranked the two models available, the Front-Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive, as five stars in terms of safety.
If you're looking for something more compact but with enough room and off-road capabilities, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a good bet to find in dealerships for around $25,000 to $27,000.
It has a combined 27 MPG, making it quite fuel-efficient for an SUV. It has an 8.1 overall rating with Edmunds, and a 4.1 customer satisfaction rating.
If you want to take a walk on the electric side, the 2022 Kia Niro EV is one used SUV you can find for a decent price. We found several in the low $20,000 range with low mileage.
In a road test, Edmunds found the Niro EV could do 285 miles on a full charge, making it an efficient option for zipping around town. It received an 8.3 overall rating from Edmunds and 4.2 from consumers.
Chevrolet has a few different SUVs in its lineup, and the Trailblazer is one of the newest. While listed as a small SUV, it has plenty of room inside to fit five people comfortably, from personal experience. You can find them on sale for under $30,000 and sometimes, even under $20,000 with minimal miles, depending on the features and trim.
Customers seem to really like the 2022 Trailblazer, as reviews give it a 4.1 overall satisfaction rating. Edmunds has rated it an 8.
The 2022 Honda Passport is a midsize SUV that gives you more space for either people or cargo, with the spacious backseat holding three people comfortably. It's designed with fuel efficiency in mind, with 22 MPG combined, and has a powerful V6 engine.
The Passport has been Edmunds tested with an 8.1 rating and 4.6 overall customer rating, meaning many owners have been happy with this SUV.
Toyota has several SUVs ranging from small to large, and the 2021 Toyota Highlander falls in the middle. Yet, it can seat up to eight passengers, which is wild for a midsize SUV. The gas mileage isn't bad either, with a combined 23 MPG.
Customers rate it a 4 out of 5 for reliability, while Edmunds rates the vehicle a solid 7.8.
It might be weird to see a Tesla on here, but the 2022 Model Y is one SUV you can get for under $30,000, actually. This all-electric car might seem small on the outside, but it's quite spacious on the inside; it almost seems like your mind's playing tricks on you.
Our search turned up several Model Ys in the mid-$20,000s, many with under 50,000 miles on them, so you can expect to get a lot of life out of them yet. Speaking of life, you can expect to drive close to 300 miles on a full charge. The Tesla Model Y comes with an enormous warranty of eight years or 120,000 miles for its powertrain.
If you like the Passport, but want something even bigger, the 2022 Pilot comes with an extra row of seating for those rowdy sports teams or family road trips. It's designed with comfort in mind with reclining second-row seats and built-in support.
The Pilot ranks slightly higher than the Passport, with Edmunds giving it an 8.2 rating. Plus, you can find various trims for sale in the $20,000 range.
If you have $30,000 burning a hole in your pocket and you're in the market for an SUV, you'll find plenty of options at dealerships nationwide with SUVs to check out.
Many are prior trade-ins, but if you pick certified pre-owned SUVs, you'll have some degree of protection, for at least a short period. Best of all, these listings tend to be young with fewer miles, so you'll feel better knowing they'll last for a bit.

Gordon Murray Special Vehicles Blows Monterey Car Week Away With Two McLaren F1-Inspired Manual V12 Hypercars
Gordon Murray Automotive, responsible for the T.50 and T.33 variants, now has a sister company specializing in the sorts of bespoke creations that turn exotics into generational works of art. It's called Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, and the first two creations to be commissioned are named S1 LM and Le Mans GTR, making their debut at Monterey Car Week. As their names hint, they pay tribute to the McLaren F1 LM and GTR of Le Mans fame, and they give the great Gordon Murray opportunities to further improve on iconic hypercars he's penned. GMSV's Bespoke division will handle one-of-one customer commissions like the S1 LM, while its Heritage division will be responsible for continuation cars and reimaginings of cars Murray designed. Finally, SV design will produce ultra-low-volume cars like the Le Mans GTR. Since the GMSV S1 LM is the first car from the new company, it only makes sense to start there. 'S1' stands for 'Special One' and was ordered in a series of five, just like the GTR-mimicking McLaren F1 LM road car. Some of these five got an unrestrected race engine, and the S1 LM goes a similar way, with an enlarged 4.3-liter version of the 4.0-liter V12 from the T.50. Still capable of 12,100 rpm, it now produces "over 700 horsepower," and like the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the car has ear defenders for each of its occupants - in this case, three. Sadly for the rest of us, all five examples are going to one selfish customer obsessed with the McLaren F1, who worked with GMA and his own designer to help craft this modern reincarnation of the road-legal racer. With the McLaren F1 so valuable that it's practically impossible to write off in a crash, the S1 LM is instead based on the aforementioned GMA three-seater, but every surface is new, and the carbon fiber body has a lower roofline than the T.50. Unlike that car, there's no rear fan. Instead, there's an Inconel exhaust (wrapped in 18-karat gold-foiled heat shielding) exiting out of four central pipes like the car that inspired this design. Importantly, Murray has always bemoaned that his original McLaren F1 design did not have the Coke-bottle curves that would have given the F1 a much more sensual shape. That has been fixed here, and the result is something that turns the F1's design from striking to stunning. A bespoke aerodynamics package promises high-speed stability, while a unique suspension with new geometry, a lower ride height, and custom damper tuning should make for an even more engaging drive. Speaking of, there is still a six-speed manual gearbox, now with a redesigned linkage that delivers shorter rifle-bolt-like throws. Completely new seats and a fully redesigned interior with a new McLaren F1-like wheel masterfully blend retro design cues with contemporary craftsmanship, whether we're talking about the futuristic silver spec or the classic green tartan interior shown in these images. This respect for the past and embrace of innovative design will keep this interior spectacular for decades to come, and we look forward to seeing what the other configurations look like. Okay, so we have no chance at owning the S1 LM. What about the GMSV Le Mans GTR? Nearly five times as many will be made, so there's a shot, right? Of course not. Low-volume hypercars that are revealed at Monterey Car Week are often sold out long before, and that's the case with all 24 of these (one for each hour of the iconic Le Mans endurance race). The design takes inspiration from Murray's own longtail designs but also uses longtails like the Matra-Simca MS660, Porsche 917, and Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/3 as its muses. GMSV has developed a new platform for the vehicle, with the GMA 4.0-liter V12 and manual six-speed as almost the only elements carried over from the sister company. The Le Mans GTR also does away with a rear fan, yet its front splitter, deep side skirts, and twin-channel rear diffuser (through which the double exhaust exits) still "generate maximum ground effect aerodynamics." A roof-mounted ram-air intake much larger than those on the T.50 or T.33 promises an intoxicating induction sound through the cabin, with the centrally seated driver surely benefiting the most. Stiffer and lighter suspension, a wider track, larger Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, enhanced cooling capacity, and new vents and side-pod intakes for engine and gearbox cooling will allow for sustained abuse on track, and the solid mounting of the engine means the driver will have a direct connection with what the car is doing beneath them. Again, we must mention the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This has its engine mounted to the bulkhead behind the occupants, and the vibrations it creates are, shall we say, less than comfortable. However, GMSV has developed a new system that it says removes many of these noise and vibration issues. Still festooned in carbon fiber but less dramatically styled, this cabin is more reminiscent of the T.50 than the S1 LM, yet it's also clearly a much more high-end experience, with texturing and detailing on practically every surface, including the stunning door pulls and the hardware that binds these elements to the doors. Let's start with the F1 tribute. It looks as futuristic as a Kyza render, yet is unmistakably still teeming with F1 DNA. The massive lower side intake adds a level of drama and menace that the original was missing, and which other supercars of the era, like the Lamborghini Diablo, fully capitalized on. The combination of narrow LED slits and outlines that mimic the shape of the original headlights is arguably the only correct way to reimagine the F1, and the simplicity of the front fascia does a fine job of upholding the clean aesthetic that appealed to so many fans of the original. Admittedly, the intake on the shoulder line breaks up the clean lines of the profile, but this is an LM tribute, and combined with the five-spoke wheels and hood intake, it's just racy enough. At the back, the fonts on the badges and their placement on the complex mesh between the vaned taillights are elements that are only fully appreciated up close, and the classic triple-exit bumper vents are pure racecar. With the massive diffuser and exposed rear tires, the design combines the best of old-school '90s design with modern aerodynamic know-how. As for its sibling, the sharper angles, vertical lines below the sculpted headlights, and the almost Zagato-like rear end truly stir the soul in a way that the perhaps-too-pure T.50 did not. Both are beautiful, but this is a car that instantly spikes heart rates the moment it's seen, while the T.50's design needed to be savored to be fully appreciated. The rear haunches call to mind a Ferrari FXX-K from the front and the Ford GT from the rear, but there's also a clear GMA flavor in the glasshouse, roof snorkel, birds-eye view, and the lighting elements. Both cars are stunning, and while we have no idea what they cost, their provenance, performance, and presence seem worth whatever the asking price might have been. Want to buy an electric car or truck? What to know before tax credits expire Sept. 30
A brand new, out-of-the blue Sept. 30 deadline to buy an EV could be easy to miss, given all the quirky details packed into the nearly 900-page mega tax bill. But automakers aren't about to let that happen. An email sent by Telsa says: "Order soon to get your $7,500." "You can get $7,500 off a qualifying Tesla vehicle at delivery with the federal tax credit, which will now expire on September 30, 2025," the email stated. You must take delivery on or before Sept. 30 to be eligible. Sales of electric cars and trucks, including plug-in hybrids, could be scorching hot at the end of summer, according to industry analysts, as buyers hear more promotions about why they absolutely must lock in lucrative clean vehicle tax credits that expire under what has been called the 'one, big, beautiful bill.' A lucrative loophole on leasing EVs ends Sept. 30, too. A clean vehicle tax credit that's up to $4,000 for eligible used electric vehicles also expires Sept. 30. Don't kid yourself. Not every tax filer will qualify for the credit when buying a clean vehicle. The make and model and the MSRP matter. So does your income. The credits do not apply to every package offered on some electric car or truck or plug-in hybrid models. The availability of the credit for those who buy will depend on several factors, including the vehicle's MSRP, its final assembly location, the sourcing of the critical minerals and components in the battery, and your modified adjusted gross income. Included in the footnotes for the Tesla email: "Consult a tax professional. Not all buyers, vehicles or financing options will qualify. Terms and conditions apply." What vehicles qualify for the EV tax credit? Check out the details at to search for eligible vehicles. Independent websites, such as Edmunds, also list cars and trucks that are eligible for the federal EV tax credit. Some 2025 vehicles that could qualify for a $7,500 credit when you're buying the vehicle, according to the list, are: the Ford F-150 Lightning Flash Trim, as well as Lariat and XLT trims; the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S; the 2025 Tesla Cybertruck dual motor, long range and single motor; various models of the 2025 Tesla Model 3, Model X and Model Y; the Cadillac Lyriq and Optic; the Chevy Blazer EV, the Chevy Equinox EV, and the Chevy Silverado EV. Among these models, though, you're limited to a vehicle with an MSRP of $80,000. Ask the dealer whether the specific car or truck you're buying qualifies. Not every version of a model listed on the website qualifies. For a consumer to qualify for a clean vehicle credit, the manufacturer suggested retail price can't exceed $80,000 for vans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks. It cannot exceed $55,000 for other vehicles. What are the income limits for an EV tax credit? Higher income households won't qualify for the credit when buying an EV. Your modified adjusted gross income may not exceed $300,000 for married couples filing jointly; $225,000 for heads of households; and $150,000 for all other filers. You can use your modified AGI from the year you take delivery of the vehicle or the year before, whichever is less, according to the Internal Revenue Service. If your modified AGI is below the threshold in one of the two years, you can claim the credit. The EV or plug-in hybrid must be bought for your own use, not for resale. You must use it primarily in the United States. A loophole in the tax credit, which was part of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, gave dealers an edge for promoting attractive leases for new EVs and plug-in hybrids, especially as many new clean vehicles were introduced. The driver cannot claim the clean vehicle tax credit in this case but can likely benefit from a better lease deal. It's one way many are finding lower monthly payments for higher priced vehicles, too. Leased electric vehicles are classified as "commercial vehicles," which means that they're eligible for the full federal clean vehicle credit without meeting strict battery and sourcing requirements. So, you might be able to lease an EV that wouldn't qualify for any credit at all if you bought it. In these cases, the tax credit belongs to the leasing company, often the automaker's captive finance arm. Some or all of that savings could be passed along to the buyer through a well-positioned lease deal. Stephanie Valdez Streaty, director of industry insights at Cox Automotive, told the Detroit Free Press that dealers are likely to feature attractive lease deals in the next two and a half months before the Sept. 30 deadline hits, which puts an end to the leasing loophole. She noted that only about 20 electric and plug-in hybrid models are eligible for the clean vehicle credit of up to $7,500 for consumers. Thanks to the EV leasing loophole, she explained, virtually any EV — regardless of price or country of origin — can qualify for the commercial clean vehicle tax credit, making it far more accessible than the consumer EV credit. The consumer who opts to lease the EV doesn't have to worry about any income limits affecting whether you qualify for the clean vehicle credit, she noted. And the leasing loophole gets around MSRP requirements or where batteries are produced or components are sourced. In April, 60% of all new EV transactions were lease deals, according to Cox Automotive data. Ivan Drury, director of insights at Edmunds, said almost all offers involving leasing are going to be the most favorable deals, given that they allow for more vehicles to benefit from tax breaks regardless of assembly location or battery sourcing requirements. Automakers and dealers already are having trouble moving EVs off the lot now, Drury said. "EVs went from some of the hottest products on the market back in 2022 to sitting on the lot for months on end, and it has been this way for nearly two years," Drury said. Selling EVs could get even tougher once the clean vehicle tax credit disappears. "Any reduction in incentives could lead to further issues once the tax credit deadline approaches, especially since many automakers have incentives stacked on top of the tax credit — with the tax credit doing most of the heavy lifting," Drury said. It is hard to say what happens beginning in October. Will automakers move so many EVs off lots by Sept. 30 that they no longer need to offer super-deep discounts? Or will brands with bloated EV inventories now still need to offer really good deals to unload metal in the fall? Drury said in some cases it might be possible to see current inventories reduced to a more manageable volume, especially as 2026 model year planning and forecasting will take into account reduced sales. "This could easily make the next few months one of the best and last times to score a deal on an EV," Drury said. Valdez Streaty, at Cox Automotive, expects solid growth in EV sales in the third quarter, as buyers act ahead of the Sept. 30 deadline for the expiring tax credit. Not surprisingly, she predicts that EV sales then will drop off in the fourth quarter, as the electric vehicle market adjusts to a new reality where buyers no longer receive federal tax breaks. Some states, like Colorado, currently offer tax breaks for EV purchases. But even Colorado's smaller tax break is set to be reduced as of Jan. 1, 2026. EV sales in the second quarter were down 6.3% year over year, according to a report issued July 14 by the Cox Automotive Kelley Blue Book team. Some of that decline is attributed to some buyers who rushed ahead to buy in the first quarter, as many anticipated that President Donald Trump would ultimately put end to EV tax credits for consumers. During the second quarter, consumers bought 310,839 new EVs in the United States, down from 331,853 in the same period in 2024, according to the well-known provider of information about the value of new and used cars. Total EV sales through the first half of 2025 set a record at 607,089, up 1.5% year-over-year, according to Cox Automotive Kelley Blue Book. Right now, buyers are looking at healthy inventories for EVs and strong sales incentives, according to experts. Ford Motor Co., for example, has extended a program called the "Ford Power Promise" that offers a free home charger and complimentary standard installation until Sept. 30. The offer applies to the purchase or lease of a new Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E or E-Transit Cargo Van. "Manufacturers and dealers are using this opportunity to create a sense of urgency to buy now while this (tax) incentive is still in place," Valdez Streaty said. Overall, sales incentives on EVs in the second quarter were more than 10% of the average transaction price. In June, average EV incentives from manufacturers reached an all-time high of 14.8% of average transaction prices, hitting nearly $8,500, according to Kelley Blue Book. These incentives are in addition to any available tax credit. In June, the average transaction price was $56,910 for a new EV, according to Kelley Blue Book. Todd Szott, whose family owns dealerships in Michigan, said more buyers are getting motivated to shop for EVs by the Sept. 30 deadline. The dealership is promoting several lease deals, including $329 a month for 24 months on a 2025 Dodge Charger R/T and $299 a month for 24 months for a 2024 Wrangler, 4-door Sport 4xe. The dealership is also promoting a $399 a month lease for 36 months on a 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E. All lease deals are plus sales tax and state fees, and the first payment is due at signing. Almost all the dealership's customers lease electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, Szott said. "The federal tax credit goes to the leasing company and is passed on to the customer in the form of a great lease deal," Szott said. He noted that more makes and models qualify for the federal tax credit through leasing because the qualifications to get the credit through leasing are less stringent. Many drivers also benefit from leasing, he said, because EV and PHEV technology will improve and change in three years, so leasing for about three years makes sense. He sells Ford, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Toyota vehicles through Szott Auto Group in White Lake, Highland Township, Holly, Waterford and New Hudson. If you plan to buy, talk to your bank or credit union and see what kind of interest rate on a car loan you'd qualify to get. Pushing anything to the last minute can cause processing errors, warns Mike Mader, Baker Tilly's dealership industry practice leader. And paperwork is key if you're buying an EV and expecting a tax credit. Remember, you cannot claim a federal income tax credit on your tax return if you lease the EV. Don't think things will just magically work out at tax time. Some taxpayers faced enormous headaches this year when dealing with the credit on their 2024 tax returns filed this year. The federal government notes that Clean Vehicle Tax Credits must be initiated and approved at the time of sale. Buyers should obtain a copy of the confirmation from the Internal Revenue Service that a 'time-of-sale' report was submitted successfully by the dealer. The IRS has an online portal for dealers to submit time of sale reports for EVs sold. Dealers must submit time-of-sale reports within a three-day period. The National Automobile Dealers Association told the Detroit Free Press that some earlier tax glitches have been worked out. 'NADA worked with the IRS to resolve the systemic issues with the portal earlier this year and those fixes have remained successful,' according to NADA spokesperson Amy Wright. 'Anecdotally, some dealers have reported an occasional, individual problem, but that should not deter consumers from purchasing an EV. There is no reason to believe there will be upcoming problems.' Many dealers, Wright said, offer the $7,500 credit at the time of purchase and that will remain unchanged until Sept. 30. The buyer can choose to take the credit upfront or claim it later on their tax return. You need the proper paperwork in either case. While a bit more than two months isn't a long lead time, the NADA said it was able to help secure a longer phaseout of the tax incentive through Sept. 30 instead of seeing the credit hit a dead stop even earlier. Cadillac Elevated Velocity SUV concept previews the future of the brand's performance EVs
Boasting a lifted ride, 24-inch wheels and both autonomous and performance-driving modes, the Cadillac Elevated Velocity concept car reveals designs and features that will carry the brand's V-series vehicles into the future. With electric all-wheel drive and an adjustable air suspension, the sleek SUV has gull-wing doors, a modern, roomy interior, 2+2 seating and an augmented-reality head-up display ― combining features Cadillac offers now and is evaluating for tomorrow. The concept also previews innovative ideas for desert racing, including repelling sand from its sleek four-door body and peering through dust storms. The Elevated Velocity debuts at the Quail, a luxury vehicle event in Carmel, California, on Aug. 15. The Quail is part of a weekend of events for luxury, racing and classic vehicles on and near the Monterey Peninsula.
