Delhi stray dog case: Actor Sadaa Sayed breaks down over SC's verdict; says, 'Shame on us, shame on our country'

Picture Credit: X Actor Sadaa Sayed has made an emotional plea following the Supreme Court's recent verdict directing the removal of all stray dogs from Delhi and surrounding regions. In a tearful video posted on her Instagram handle, the 'Jayam' actor expressed deep anguish over what she fears will be a mass killing of dogs, calling the move both inhumane and impractical. Fear of mass killing Referring to a recent incident that supposedly led to the orders, Sadaa said, "Ek case jo prove ho chuka hai ki rabies ki wajah se thi bhi nahi wo ladki ki death, usko leke three lakh dogs are about to be relocated or rather killed. Why don't we accept that they are going to be killed by the end of it? Because it is not in the capacity of the government or local authorities to create shelters for that many dogs in just eight weeks. It is just going to be a mass killing of the dogs." Government inaction blamed The actor blamed the government and local bodies for their "incompetence" in vaccinating and sterilising stray animals, saying that had the ABC (Animal Birth Control) program been implemented effectively with a dedicated budget, this situation could have been avoided. Struggles of animal lovers Sadaa also mentioned the struggles faced by animal lovers and NGOs who, she said, feed and sterilise stray animals without government support. "Sab kuch apni jebo se hota hai… Koi sarkar ki madad nahi milti. I have been doing this for many years. And we make sure these dogs and cats are sterilised," she added, while criticising those who buy specific breed dogs instead of adopting strays. Sadaa spoke about peaceful protesters being detained by police and the heartbreak of imagining the fate of the animals. "I never imagined that being in a country like India, we are going to bear witness to a mass killing like this. This is killing me from the inside. Shame on us, shame on our country, and shame on who didn't think twice before passing judgment. Please take this decision back," she pleaded. Zurich Film Festival 2025: Dwayne Johnsons The Smashing Machine, Nia DaCostas Hedda, and other films to screen at event

Zurich [Switzerland], August 14 (ANI): The Zurich Film Festival has unveiled the list of movies which will have the global premiere at the event, which runs from September 25 to October 5, reported The Hollywood Reporter. The 21st edition of the festival will open its main gala section to a mix of Hollywood awards contenders and German-language productions with broad audience appeal. Festival director Christian Jungen noted that the section has a track record of screening films that later earn Oscar nominations, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. It includes Benny Safdie's latest feature, 'The Smashing Machine', starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson. The Rock plays the role of an MMA fighter, Mark Kerr. According to the outlet, the film's synopsis reads: Kerr, an icon of the early UFC era, stands at the peak of his career while teetering on the edge of destruction, a life caught between fame and self-destruction. Former Playboy model and Kerr's wife, Dawn Staples, played by Emily Blunt, tries to support him through all the setbacks but finds herself pushed to her own limits. Also screening is 'Hedda', the latest film from Nia DaCosta. The film is described as a modern reimagining of Henrik Ibsen's classic play. Hedda (Tessa Thompson) finds herself torn between the lingering ache of a past love and the quiet suffocation of her present life. Over the course of one charged night, long-repressed desires and hidden tensions erupt - pulling her and everyone around her into a spiral of manipulation, passion, and betrayal. Actors Nina Hoss, Imogen Poots and Tom Bateman also play prominent roles in the film. Paul Greengrass's 'The Lost Bus' is also up for screening at the Zurich Film Festival, reported The Hollywood Reporter. Inspired by real events, the movie casts Matthew McConaughey as a school bus driver caught in one of America's deadliest wildfires, with America Ferrera as a teacher aiding in the rescue of 22 children. Other titles in the gala lineup include Rebecca Zlotowski's 'A Private Life' with Jodie Foster, Erik Schmitt's 'The Life of Wishes' starring Matthias Schweighofer, Swiss literary adaptation 'I'm Not Stiller' from director Stefan Haupt, Neele Leana Vollmar's 'Time We Lost' with Anke Engelke and Ulrich Tukur, 'Unidentified' from Haifaa Al Mansour, Christian Ditter's children's film 'Momo', and the documentary 'The Balloonists' from director John Dower, reported The Hollywood Reporter. A vet expert from Mumbai, Saaniya Chandhok, hit the headlines on Thursday, as reports claimed she got engaged to legendary Sachin Tendulkar's son, Arjun, a day earlier. No official statement has been made by the two families about the engagement ceremony, but the mark of a new beginning in junior Tendulkar's life has raised curiosity about Saaniya. Arjun, 25, who has been part of the Mumbai Indians since 2021, presented a ring to Saaniya in a private ceremony attended only by close friends and family members on Wednesday. Ever since the news of the engagement, fans have been wondering about Saaniya and who the new member of the Tendulkar family is. Who is Saaniya Chandhok? According to a report by India Today, Saaniya is the granddaughter of renowned Mumbai businessman Ravi Ghai, who is one of the leading personalities in the hospitality and food industry, maintaining ties with InterContinental Hotel and Brooklyn Creamery. The report also claims Arjun's fiancée is the founder of Mumbai-based Mr. Paws Pet Spa & Store LLP, which is an established brand known for pet grooming services. In a post earlier this year, the brand confirmed Saaniya is a certified Veterinary Technician from WVS, having completed her ABC programme. Apart from this, Saaniya is reportedly involved in the Ghai family's business activities and manages multiple companies. Despite hailing from a business tycoon's family, Saaniya maintains a low profile on social media, with just over 800 followers and only 26 posts on her private Instagram account. Her follower account, though, includes Arjun and his sister Sara Tendulkar, with whom she has been clicked and appeared in social media posts several times.
