O'Connor secures gold at World University Games
The Ireland athlete built up a total of 6487 points to break her own national record of 6297 which she set in 2021.
The 24-year-old's new benchmark left her fourth in the world this year as she finished with a comfortable lead over Hungarian silver medallist Szabina Szucs (6081) and Australia's Emilia Surch, who clinched bronze at the University Games.
The success continues an impressive year for the Dundalk-based athlete who collected bronze at the European Indoors at the Netherlands in March, then picked up a World Indoor silver in China.
Newry-born O'Connor recorded a personal best time of 24.33 in the 200 metres on Wednesday to help take a healthy advantage into the final day of action on Thursday.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medallist followed that up with a mark of 6.15m in the long jump, a throw of 51.97 in the javelin and finally a PB of 2:10.46 as she finished second in the concluding event, the 800m.

Asics America has moved into a new home in Boston. According to the Japanese athletic brand, its North American head office has relocated to 179 Lincoln Street in Boston, Mass. Asics, which completed its move earlier this month, now occupies 43,721-square-feet of the new office building and represents an expansion of the brand's presence in the East Coast sneaker capital and sports hub. Spanning an entire city block along the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, this five-story, LEED Silver-certified property also offers accessibility with proximity to South Station and Interstates 90 and 93, the company noted. To celebrate the opening, the company held a team gathering in the new space, with a surprise guest appearance from former president of Asics Motoi Oyama. At the event, Oyama presented a gift for the new office: a framed poster from 1985, the year he was assigned to Asics America. Barbara Turner, chief administrative officer of Asics America, said in a statement that the company is 'so pleased' with its new home in Boston. 'The heritage and design of the building, coupled with modern amenities and LEED certification makes this the ideal space and location for our business and Boston-based team members,' Turner said. This new office follows the 2018 opening of the Asics Creation Studio, located at 125 Summer Street in Boston, which was home to nearly 100 employees at the time of opening, including members of the product design, marketing and commerce teams. The space, designed by IA Interior Architects, featured 18,818-square-feet of workspace, as well as two showrooms for meetings and a cafe space outfitted with a whisky bar. In May, Asics Corp. reported net sales in the first quarter of 2025 were 208.3 billion yen, a 19.7 percent increase from 174.1 billion yen in first-quarter 2024. The company noted that this is the first time its net sales have surpassed the 200-billion-yen threshold on a quarterly basis. Zooming in on North American sales, the company said it saw 'significant growth' in the sportstyle category in the first quarter as well as improved profitability at company-owned retail stores. Overall net sales in the region increased 18.3 percent to 39.1 billion yen in the first quarter, up from 33.1 billion yen the same time last year. Asics Corp. is set to release its second quarter 2025 earnings statement in August. Tom Cousins, visionary behind East Lake's urban renewal project in Atlanta, dies at 93
Tom Cousins, the influential Atlanta real estate developer and philanthropist, died Tuesday at age 93 while hospitalized in Florida. Cousins was the visionary behind using golf to revitalize the East Lake community of Atlanta. In 1995, he founded the East Lake Foundation and bought East Lake Golf Club, the home course of Bobby Jones, which had fallen on hard times and was surrounded by a dangerous neighborhood. Cousins, who also was a member at Augusta National, persuaded local corporations to buy into his plan to turn East Lake around. Millions of dollars were raised and invested into the development of caddie programs and after-school golf clinics designed to introduce local boys and girls to the game – and keep them out of trouble at the same time. The project, which included mixed-income housing and a YMCA, resulted in one of the most successful urban renewal projects in decades and a model that has been replicated elsewhere. East Lake GC began hosting the Tour Championship in 1998 and became the tournament's home in 2004. The Tour Championship has contributed more than $63 million to Atlanta-based nonprofits, including the East Lake Foundation, Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, Focused Community Strategies, the Grove Park Foundation and the First Tee — Metro Atlanta, among others. 'It's difficult for me find words that adequately pay tribute to a man who, throughout his 93 years, sought to make a difference and improve the lives of those around him," said PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. 'Mr. Cousins was a visionary and a man who had the unique ability to imagine what something could become and then make it happen. Cousins was the original owner of the Atlanta Hawks, playing a pivotal role in bringing the franchise there. Cousins, along with former Georgia Governor Carl Sanders, purchased the team in 1968, relocating the franchise to Atlanta from St. Louis. Born Dec. 7, 1931, in Atlanta, Cousins graduated from the University of Georgia in 1952. Six years later, he started his own residential real estate business, Cousins Properties. In 2002, the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame inducted Cousins, with the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame bestowing the same honor on Cousins in 2018. 'Tom Cousins was a giant in life and in golf. His inspirational vision for East Lake Golf Club and the East Lake Foundation - guided by his golf with a purpose mantra - has transformed the lives of a generation of children and families in the city of Atlanta,' said East Lake Foundation board member and Versant CEO Mark Lazarus.
