Luka Doncic Men's Health story shows Lakers star's new physique
Our digital cover star, Luka Doncic, ready to take his game (and the Lakers) to new levels of dominance. And this summer shred has been years in the making.https://t.co/aB19DY7rrL pic.twitter.com/bjVsf1ampI — Men's Health Mag (@MensHealthMag) July 28, 2025
As Doncic has become one of the best players in the NBA, he has also been criticized for his weight and conditioning. Working closely in the offseason with a training staff that that includes a physiotherapist and nutritionist, Doncic wants to be in the best shape of his life for the 2025-26 season.
His dietary regimen includes fasting nearly 16 consecutive hours a day while consuming a high-protein, low-carb nutritional program that includes whey protein shakes. His workout plan includes weight lifting, resistance-band routines, agility and on-court drills.
"This summer was just a little bit different," Doncic said in the story. "It kind of motivated me to be even better."

Doncic, 26, played in just 50 games last season, the lowest of his career, and he did not make the All-Star or All-NBA team for the first time since 2020. He averaged 28.2 points 8.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists, but the Lakers, who acquired Doncic from Dallas last season in a much-scrutinized deal at the February trade deadline, were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round.
The Lakers are trying to maximize a championship window with LeBron James alongside Doncic while preparing for a future with Doncic as the centerpiece of the roster.
Doncic plans to play for Slovenia at Eurobasket, which runs from Aug. 27-Sept. 14.

Marlins carry hot streak into five-game set at Atlanta
August 7 - The Miami Marlins will try to turn the tables on the National League East rival Braves on Thursday when the teams begin a five-game series in Atlanta. The Marlins have not won a season series against Atlanta since 2014, but they are 3-2 versus the Braves this year, and they are one of the NL's hottest teams. Miami, which salvaged a game in a three-game series by beating the visiting Houston Astros 6-4 on Wednesday, has won 10 of its last 14. The Marlins are 31-16 since June 13. "Every time they show up to the ballpark, there is an expectation now to win," Miami manager Clayton McCullough said. "The losses sting more, and that's a good thing. It's not only believing you can do it but proving to yourself that you can." Meanwhile, Atlanta has lost 11 of its past 14 to fall a season-worst 19 games below .500. The fourth-place Braves are nine games behind the third-place Marlins in the NL East. "For a long time we've been struggling with just kind of keeping the line moving," Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. "You get two or three games maybe when it flows, but we can't put anything together and sustain anything for any period of time." The Marlins will send Eury Perez (4-3, 2.70 ERA) to the mound on Thursday to face Carlos Carrasco (2-2, 5.68) in a battle of right-handers. Perez has pitched well in his past six starts, going 4-1 with a 1.06 ERA. During that span of 34 innings, the 22-year-old has allowed four runs on 15 hits and eight walks while striking out 37 and limiting opponents to a .132 batting average. He is the first pitcher in Marlins history to allow 15 hits while posting a sub-1.50 ERA in a span of six starts. In his latest outing, on Saturday against the New York Yankees, Perez fired six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks and fanning five. "Every time I make a mistake or a bad pitch, I've learned with every game that you have to just step out, take a deep breath and then go back again," Perez said. "That is going to help you maintain the rhythm and command each game." Perez will look to change his luck against the Braves. In two career starts vs. Atlanta, he is 0-2 with a 16.20 ERA. The Braves got to him for three runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings on June 21. Carrasco will make his second start for Atlanta since his contract was purchased from the Yankees on July 28. He made his Braves debut at Cincinnati on July 31, when he pitched six innings and permitted three runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out five. The 38-year-old is 5-2 with a 3.38 ERA in 12 career starts against the Marlins. The series features two of the game's top rookie catchers -- Miami's Agustin Ramirez and Atlanta's Drake Baldwin. Ramirez, who is batting .243, leads NL rookies in extra-base hits (42), runs (48), hits (86), doubles (24), home runs (17) and RBIs (51). Baldwin is hitting .281 with 11 homers and 41 RBIs. The Braves may be close to getting ace Chris Sale back from the injured list. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday, a precursor to a minor league rehab assignment. The 2024 NL Cy Young Award winner has been out since mid-June with a fractured left ribcage. --Field Level Media

Kilmarnock fighters secure Muay Thai World Championship medals
The trio were in fine form at the recent event in Italy Three fighters from a Kilmarnock gym took on the world and bagged medals at the WBC Muay Thai World Championships in Italy. The KAMMA Gym trio of Harvey Clark, Enzo Paton and Kyle Donnelly were part of the Team Scotland squad as over 1000 fighters descended on Verona for the prestigious event. And the local lads proved they could mix it with the best as they each medalled in their respective events. First up was Harvey, fighting in the 12-13 year old 44kg category facing-off against Paddy Conaty of Team England. His opponent started fast, securing the first round, but Harvey made some adjustments and picked up the pace in the second and third to secure victory and earn a spot in the quarter-finals. There, he outscored Canada's Gurveer Signth Athwall in all three rounds to bag a place in the semis. Unfortunately, a medical issue meant the youngster wasn't cleared to fight, but he still returned home with a well-earned bronze medal. Next for the Killie club was Enzo competing in the 10-11 year-old 30kg event. Dominant displays against Spain's Asier Gonzales Leon and Oros Zakhari (Cyprus) set-up an all-Scotland final against Aberdeen's Leo Dale. Enzo started brightly and picked up the first round but Leo fought back to make it a winner-takes-all third round which went in Leo's favour as Enzo bagged a silver. Eighteen-year-old Kyle was the final KAMMA fighter on the card and went all the way to secure not only the world title but also being named Male Fighter of the Tournament. In his first bout he faced-off against USA's Ian Holloway and forced a third round stoppage thanks to a barrage of knees to the body. He progressed to the quarter-final the following day to fight Jyric Queniahan from Hawai. Finding his range quickly, he outscored his opponent throughout winning by unanimous decision to go through to the semis against Guilherme Vaz of Portugal. Kyle had to deal with some powerful low kicks early on but was able to outscore his opponent from range to seal victory and earn his place in the final against Swiss fighter Thibaud Auger. A commanding display of Muay Thai from Kyle saw him earn a unanimous decision in impressive fashion having to dig deep at times to secure the gold medal. The KAMMA were part of a hugely successful event for Scotland as they finished fifth in the medal table with 11 golds, three silvers and four bronzes despite boasting a small team of just 25 fighters.

Jen Pawol, MLB's first female umpire, is making baseball history
Announced on Wednesday by Major League Baseball, Pawol is getting called up to be part of the five-team umpire crew for this weekend's Atlanta Braves-Miami Marlins series, which features a doubleheader on Saturday, making her the first female umpire to work a regular-season MLB game. Pawol is scheduled to be behind the plate for the Braves and Marlins series finale on Sunday, Aug. 10 at Truist Park in Atlanta. She will be working each of the final three games of the series with the crew, which needed a fifth member for the weekend due to the doubleheader. Jen Pawol gets the call! This weekend, the Minor League ump will become the first woman to umpire in a regular season MLB game: — Minor League Baseball (@MiLB) August 6, 2025 REQUIRED READING: Why Phillies' ace pitcher Zack Wheeler isn't starting, injury update and rotation change The call-up by Major League Baseball comes well after other professional sports leagues broke down the gender barrier with female officials and referees of their own. The first full-time female official to work a professional sports game was Violet Palmer in 1997, who worked the Dallas Mavericks vs. then-Vancouver Grizzlies game to become the NBA's first woman referee. Sarah Thomas then became the NFL's first woman on-field official in 2015 when she served as a line judge for the Kansas City Chiefs' road game at the Houston Astros. Thomas furthered her history in the NFL six years later in 2021 when she became the first female to officiate a Super Bowl. Noted by Pawol began her baseball umpire career in 2016 in Rookie ball and climbed all the way up the minor league ranks to Triple-A in 2023, where she was the first woman to umpire at the minor league's highest level in 34 years. That same season, Pawol made history by becoming the first woman to umpire a Triple-A championship game. Here's what to know about Pawol: Who is Jen Pawol? Pawol, who is 47 years old, comes from a softball background as she played softball at Hofstra University and was a three-time Colonial Athletic Association All-Conference team selection as the Pride's catcher. She was a member of the U.S. Women's softball team's world championship team in 2001. The New Jersey native first became an umpire in 2010 when she worked college softball games, and then shifted to baseball in 2016 when she was hired for a job in the Gulf Coast League following the completion of the Umpire Training Academy. She does have some MLB experience on her resume, as she worked a Houston Astros vs. Washington Nationals spring training game in 2024. Starting at third base for that game, Pawol became the first female umpire to work a spring training game since Ria Cortesio did so back in 2007. "I greatly appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, everyone's welcoming attitude on the field tonight was very, very special," Pawol said in 2024 after umpiring her first MLB spring training game. "Both managers shared congratulations and were welcoming, along with my (umpiring) partners, the players. I knew a lot of the players on the field already and so many said 'Congrats, great to see you up here.'" Noted by Pawol is one of 17 current Triple-A umpires who are eligible to serve as a substitute in Major League games, should one of MLB's umpires go on vacation or something like that. When is Jen Pawol making her MLB umpire debut? Pawol is set to make her MLB umpiring debut on Saturday in Game 1 of the Braves-Marlins doubleheader. She is set to then work the plate for the first time in the majors on Sunday for the series finale. The USA TODAY app gets you to the heart of the news -- fast.
